Bloodline of the Wizard-Chapter 28 - Planning
Chapter 28: Chapter 28 Planning
All matters being discussed, their temporary group was officially formed.
Everyone needed to go back and fully digest the content of the meeting, and without lingering, they dispersed.
Ronan deliberately dawdled for a long time, waiting until everyone else had left, leaving only him and Old Wells.
"What is the story behind Linus?"
Ronan directly inquired Old Wells.
"I'm not too sure myself... actually, he approached me on his own asking to join."
Old Wells' response surprised Ronan.
"He requested to join on his own?"
"Yes."
Old Wells nodded, "He heard about our last meeting and specifically sought me out... Linus doesn't seem to be a nomadic wizard, he told me that he couldn't rent a suitable house in town, and with the crowd, so he thought about living in seclusion in the forest..."
While the reason didn't seem too far-fetched, Ronan felt there might be other reasons.
"Let's not talk about him, as long as he bears no malice towards us."
Ronan didn't think that their group of "poor" Tree House District wizards could have any schemes that a Level 5 Apprentice wizard would concoct, and shifting the topic, Ronan asked Old Wells.
"Now that the team is formed, what are your plans?"
"I'm just a minor Level 3 Apprentice; what plans could I have? I'm just someone who has lived a few more years than you guys..."
Old Wells chuckled bitterly, "I will continue to persuade others to join, we still need more people in the team..."
Ronan nodded, it made sense; currently, their team only consisted of five groups, which meant patrol turns every five days—too frequent, especially for wizards like him who preferred ascetic practices.
"Let's try it for some time and see, many issues only become apparent in practice, our team also needs time to gel, and be prepared for people to leave at any time..."
Old Wells had thought further than Ronan.
Ronan also asked Old Wells about arrangements for the little girl, Cheryl, and learning when it was Old Wells and Vinicia's turn for patrol, the Jolin couple would take care of her, which reassured him.
"By the way."
After some small talk, Ronan finally asked the question he most wanted to know.
"About Black Robes, could you elaborate?"
Ronan's expression gradually became stern, he said solemnly, "I still do not understand, what kind of opponents are we preparing to face?"
Old Wells was silent for a while, then slowly spoke, "Coming from Black Witch Land, the Black Robed Wizards are mostly distorted in nature and brutal in their methods.
Their mastery of magic might not necessarily be stronger than the magic of other series, but the way they cast spells and the effects are much more sinister and frightening than usual magic...
However, rest assured, like the Curse System Magic that killed Porter, even among Black Robes, very few have the qualifications and capability to study it.
Most Black Robed Wizards primarily practice ordinary dark and undead series magic...
The issue of energy particles eroding their bodies is much more severe than ours, I heard even Official Wizards cannot completely solve it, so many Black Robes are keen on physical modifications...
If you ever encounter one, be very careful, their vital points may differ from ordinary people.."
Ronan took notes of everything Old Wells said; these were valuable experiences that might save lives in the future.
"Are there any distinct features that can easily identify a Black Robed Wizard? I see many wizards in Hoddam wore black robes too.."
Ronan stroked his chin, asking.
Old Wells thought for a moment and responded, "The aura, I suppose. Black Robed Wizards more or less have negative energy particles swirling around them.
Once you see it, you will know, you can usually tell right away."
Ronan sighed softly, "I really hope to never see him..."
Old Wells remained silent.
...
Back at the Tree House, Ronan was still pondering the matters of the small group and the Black Robed Wizards.
Old Wells was all for this mutual aid patrol team, hands and feet down.
He preferred the ascetic life, disliking the noisy inconvenience of towns and currently unable to enter the academy; thus, if he did not want to delay his progress, the forest was still the best place to reside.
The establishment of the small group relieved him of much of his concerns for the future.
"But we can't rely entirely on this."
Ronan knew well that Old Wells' small group might work under normal circumstances; the moment a slight problem arose, it would certainly shatter instantly.
To survive the impending crisis of the Black Robes, one still needs to rely on oneself.
"Only with stronger personal strength can one have more chances to survive and live better!"
Ronan pulled up his character panel and started to plan his upcoming training according to the content on it.
With a crisis at hand, Rune engraving matters could be temporarily set aside, and the main focus should be on enhancing combat power.
It would be difficult to significantly improve spiritual cultivation in a short period, so he had to start with Spell instead.
His first small goal—level up "Energy Missile" above the Expert level.
Without unexpected events, Ronan's combat effectiveness would greatly improve by then.
Then, he planned to learn the three remaining Low-level Spells from the "Zero Rank Magic Complete Collection," just in case it was needed.
Second, "Ascetic Body Refinement" and "Basic Swordsmanship".
These two are also focal points of the training.
Combat at the intermediate to low-level Wizard Apprentice tiers isn't as grand as people imagine: starting with a few Spells clashing, then both sides entering a prolonged "cooldown period" is quite common.
That's when the advantage of a strong physique becomes apparent.
Physical combat skills do not require casting guidance and can often quickly determine the outcome of a battle.
"If I could master the 'Basic Swordsmanship' and combine it with a Master-level 'Charging Weapon'... it's not impossible to burst out the destructive power comparable to an intermediate Zero Rank Spell instantly, without needing Spell casting."
Ronan looked at the one-handed sword in his hand, thinking to himself.
The last point was about Magic Equipment.
Ronan had plans to purchase one or two pieces of offensive or supportive Magic Tools, but given the market prices of Magic Tools right now, he could only reluctantly give up on that idea.
"Two Magic Tool rings should be enough... at least much stronger than the average Tree House District Wizard..."
Old Wells said that the environment in Black Witch Land was harsh; acts like murder for loot, which in Hoddam might happen occasionally, were commonplace in Black Witch Land.
Therefore, many Black Robed Wizards from Black Witch Land were good at fighting, and in terms of real battle experience, they were far stronger than those Grey Robes.
This is also one of the reasons why many Wizards in Hoddam Wizarding Land change color when Black Robes are mentioned.
Nowadays, the news of the invasion from Black Witch Land is like a thick cloud of gloom, looming over the entirety of Hoddam, and Ronan felt as if he were in the low-pressure atmosphere before a storm arrives, constantly feeling a heaviness at heart, like something was blocking it.
Only ascetic practice could alleviate this.
The day after the small team was formed, the routine patrol work officially began.

On the first day, it was Old Wells paired with the social-anxiety-ridden girl, Vinicia.
As they patrolled near Ronan's residence, Old Wells even specifically stood under the tree and greeted him.
