The manager slowly gave a cold smile and said.
"Of course sir, please hold on for a minute while we verify and calculate your chips. I assure you that it won’t take much of your time."
Alex felt a shiver run up his spine because of the way the manager spoke gently and reassuringly, while keeping a cold terrifying smile.
Soon, a staff member was called over. The man took quite long to verify the chips, causing time to feeling like forever. After he was done verifying everything, the man looked towards the manager and nodded, indicating that everything was okay.
Alex thinly stretched nerves, finally relaxed as he let out a breath of relief.
’Thank gosh, it looks like they will give me my money. Honestly I don’t even know what I was so scared of, it’s not like I did anything wrong, and it’s not like any of them know about the profit instinct.’
Contrary to what Alex was expecting to happen, five black clothed burly men, with menacing demeanor stepped forward, blocking his path. Victor on the side was no longer smiling, he carefully took a step back and quickly blended into the crowd.
The manager stepped forward still with that annoyingly cold smile on his face and gestured.
"Sir, would you be so kind as to follow us, we would like to talk to you about some important matter with your winnings."
One of the burly men immediately cracked his fists with a wide cruel grin on his face.
’Damnit... these bastards, they are trying to drag me somewhere private and the worse part is that I didn’t do anything wrong... well if you don’t count using profit instinct.’
Alex cursed internally, but he kept his face straight, trying to scan the room for a way to escape. The chibi who had been sitting on his shoulder this whole while, crossed her arms with a deeply unimpressed face, which just seemed to make the little grumplin even cuter.
[I told you this was bad news, now because of collecting money from that loan shark and your reckless gambling, you have now managed to land yourself in trouble]
"Please shut up, I’m trying to figure out a way to escape." He muttered under his breath.
[Hmph! you deserve what you’re about to get]
...After noticing that there was no way to escape, Alex forced a smile on his face while tring to act casual.
"Talk about what? The chips are already verified, right? And I’m sure that you must have checked the security camera to find out whether I cheated or not, so why do I still need to talk?"
The manager’s smile cracked for a minute but he quickly recovered.
"I’m sorry but I can’t answer that.That is why we would like to have a... Private talk with you."
The crowd around the table had gone strangely quiet with the turn of events. Some gamblers pretended not to look at what was going on, afraid of being seen as interfering.
Alex mind raced but he quickly came up with a plan. It was better to follow them without causing a scene and besides, maybe along the way he might gain an opportunity to escape.
"Ok in that case, let’s talk."
Gaining Alex agreement, the manager together with the menacing burly men led him away from the main room through a dimly lit narrow corridor that reeked of a disgusting foul smell.
The further they walked the more unbearable the stench got. Soon they finally reached the exit.
Taking huge gulps of air to clear his nose, Alex secretly looked around and spotted a black mini van parked outside. His heart immediately sank, this wasn’t going to be a normal talk, it looked like they wanted to take him somewhere and finish him off for making the casino lose money. Even escaping now looked difficult.
No he couldn’t submit to fate like this, there had got to be something he could do but what? Wait! Since he had his body improved, didn’t he get stronger. Though not by a large margin but still it should enough to handle them.
Turning to the chibi, he softly called out.
"Hey system, with my ability do I have a shot at fighting this guys?"
The chibi didn’t answer immediately. She turned her gaze towards the six-man squad, furrowing her tiny brows as if genuinely calculating something.
[Well if it was before your body got upgraded I would say you’re going to die]
She tapped her chin thoughtfully.
[But now? Hmmm... I would say you have a slight shot, after all your physical abilities have improved, not just your face...]
She glanced sideways at him with a sly glance.
[Or the one thing that makes women scream]
"Can you focus?"
She rolled her eyes.
[Fine. You have a chance, though you might get hurt]
Alex mind raced.
’I still have a chance, even though it might look slim it’s still better than dying out there.’
The sliding door of the van screeched open behind him, snapping him out of his thoughts. One of the burly men, a man with a terrifying scar across his right cheek stepped closer, trying to shove him inside.
Feeling that this was the right time to strike. Alex sidestepped and drove his elbow straight into the scarred man’s ribs, earning a grunt from him.
Before the others could react, Alex knee shot upward slamming into the man’s legs, causing him to buckle slightly. Then he shoved the scarred man hard and slipped out of the half formed circle.
Standing outside the circle, Alex was a little stunned. He knew that the upgrade made him stronger than before, but this was way too strong. Was he still the quiet harmless man of before?
Suddenly the others snapped out and tried to attack him. One of the burly men came from his left and swung his fist, brimming with terrifying power, but Alex reacted quickly and duck, then kicked him on the chest sending him to the ground. The man groaned in pain while clutching the spot that Alex had kicked.
Another rushed him from behind and wrapped his strong arms around Alex, restraining him. But Alex stomped his foot hard and drove his head backward into his jaw.
"AHHHHHhhh!!!" The shrill scream of the man rang out as he loosened his grip on Alex and clutched his jaw in pain. 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝒆𝔀𝒆𝙗𝓷𝒐𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝓶
The chibi watched with fascination while enjoying a plate of popcorn that came out from God knows where.
[Yeah, give him a punch and another one...]
The next man suddenly pulled out a crowbar. Alex’s expression immediately turned ugly.
"Oh come on, are you kidding me right now?!"
The man swung the crowbar towards his head with enough force to shatter bones, but Alex narrowly dodged it. Another burly man behind Alex used the opportunity to smash his fist on the back of his head.
Alex winced in pain, while seeing stars but he quickly shook his head and concentrated back on the fight. The man with the crowbar swung, aiming for his head but Alex quickly grabbed the burly man by his side and pushed him forward. Forcing him to bear the brunt of the vicious attack.
A sickening snap rang out as the burly man’s arm twisted at an unnatural angle. The man’s pig-like scream rang out, then he collapsed.
Now it was only the crowbar wielding man and a tired Alex that remained standing, fighting multiple people had taken a toll on Alex body. The rest laid sprawled on the floor groaning in pain.
The man, now cautious after seeing his teammates on the ground, tightened his grip on the crowbar and swung it ferociously towards Alex’s ribs. Too drained of stamina Alex couldn’t dodge it so he hurriedly raised his arm to block the crowbar.
Crack!
