Only after Renzo’s figure vanished through the doors did Nyx finally breathe out a sigh of relief. She didn’t waste a single second before reaching down, grabbing Alex’s hand, and violently shoving it off her waist.

She turned to him with an icy gaze.

"Remind me later to cut off that arm that touched me," she hissed. " And why exactly did you feel the need to push Renzo Kade that far?"

"Oh, no. Don’t you dare put this on me," Alex countered in a low frantic whisper. "why didn’t you f*cking tell me that the guy I was playing fake boyfriend against was one of the young masters of the Kade family. Is that how you treat those who work for you? By putting them in huge trouble."

Nyx narrowed her eyes while stepping forward until she was directly in front of him.

"Watch your tone. I am more than capable of keeping my people safe, so don’t fret too much, I’ll keep you safe. After all..." Her fingers trailed up his jaws. " You’re still very important to me."

Alex looked at her suspiciously, not fully trusting her yet, but he sighed. As long as this wicked woman could ensure his protection, then he didn’t have anything to be scared of.

But in the meantime he had to either find a new target fast or go back and complete what he started with Olivia, so that he could gain more desire points and desire energy.

Suddenly a slow clap echoed from behind them.

They both turned and spotted a slightly short, chubby middle-aged man with a head full of black hair and an amiable face that hid a wicked and devious heart, walking towards them. He was dressed in a luxurious black tux with a red tie and his hands tucked into his pocket. He gave Nyx a smile that didn’t quite reach his eyes.

Nyx’s face darkened instantly.

"Marcus Gordon. I’m surprised you’re showing your face. I heard your logistics firm hit a... Snag. I hope it wasn’t too much of a problem."

Marcus’s face twitched, but he quickly recovered. The annoyingly irritating smile on his face returned back as if nothing had happened.

"Haha... Rumors travel really fast in this city. But I’m touched that you’re so concerned about my business affairs."

"Concerned? Please don’t misunderstand. I was simply curious about how someone as capable as you managed to lose three contracts in the same week."

That comeback made Marcus’s smile stiffen for the second time. Alex, who was standing beside Nyx, silently watched the exchange between the two powerhouses.

’Wow... These two really hate each other. I knew Nyx was good but I never expected that she was this good at shutting people up.’

Marcus, short of words, shifted his gaze towards Alex. His sharp eyes scanned him from head to toe like a butcher examining a piece of meat.

"And this must be the brave young man... sorry your ’boyfriend’ who just humiliated the young master of the Kade family in front of half the city’s elites."

"Humiliated is a strong word. I prefer the term... Educating him."

Alex said nonchalantly while giving a shrug. Since he basically had Nyx backing there was no need to fear Marcus but he had to be cautious not to overstep his boundary.

Marcus gave a chuckle.

"Oh? And what exactly did you teach him?"

"That screaming in public is bad for your blood pressure." He replied lazily.

Nyx immediately pressed her lips together, clearly trying not to react to his words. Marcus blinked, stunned by the sheer audacity of the young man standing in front of him, but he suddenly burst out into laughter.

"Hahaha...! Interesting, very interesting. You know young man, I am really amused by your courage. I don’t know whether to call you insane or brave for daring to offend someone that even I am wary of."

Nyx’s cold voice suddenly broke out.

"Marcus, if you came here just to talk nonsense, then I suggest you leave. I’m not in the mood for any of your games today."

Marcus clutched his chest in mock hurt.

"Such hostility! And I merely came to congratulate you."

"Congratulate me?"

"Of course. It’s not every time that someone tries to offend the Kade family. It takes real courage to do what you just did... Or incredible stupidity."

The atmosphere instantly grew colder. Alex could feel the tension so thick in the air between them. Nyx stepped slightly forward, her eyes turning dangerously sharp.

"Watch your mouth Marcus. I do not condone insults."

Marcus raised both hands innocently.

Nyx stepped forward,

Marcus looked at her with an expression of pure disbelief.

Immediately, the entrance door slammed open, and a man who looked like he was in his thirties strode in, wearing a flamboyant red designer suit. He was accompanied by two curvaceous women who clung to his arm, with flirtatious smiles plastered all over their faces.

The room went silent as the newcomer scanned the crowd with a bored, predatory grin.
