Chapter 22: The Undefeated Gambling king

Chapter 22

Nyx’s expression immediately changed, the moment she saw the newcomer. The usually calm and collected woman suddenly looked like someone who had just seen a ghost.

"You have got to be kidding me. Why does it have to be him of all people? This is bad, really bad."

’That bad?’ Alex raised an eyebrow slightly. ’Just who the hell is this guy, that’s making the underworld queen panic?’

"Who is that? And why are you freaking out so much?" Alex said while observing the flamboyant looking man through his side eyes.

"That is Damian Cross."

"Damian who?"

"Damian Cross. He is known as the undefeated gambling king of underground casinos and high-stakes games, who has never lost a single match in his career. He once turned five thousand dollars into a hundred million dollars in a single night. I never imagined that Marcus could pull enough strings to bring him here."

Immediately she finished speaking, a hint of gloom flashed through Alex’s eyes. What kind of shit was this? How was he supposed to know that he was going to compete against a literal gambling god who had never lost in his entire life.

’Great... Just my luck,’ Alex thought bitterly. ’Out of all the gamblers in the world, Marcus had to bring this guy.’

But still he had a slight shot over his opponent. With the profit instinct, his chances of winning were significantly higher.

Damian stopped in front of Marcus, barely sparing him a glance. His eyes slowly swept across the entire room before finally landing on the extremely gorgeous young man in front of him. Even he was a bit taken aback by how handsome the young man looked.

’Why the hell is this dude staring at me like that? Don’t tell me that the legendary Damian Cross is into guys.’

"Let’s get this over with." Damian said, in a calm and almost bored voice, as if the entire gathering meant nothing to him. His dark eyes remained fixed on Alex for a few seconds before slowly shifting toward Marcus.

"So... Which unfortunate soul am I supposed to play against today?" He said lazily while adjusting the gold-linked cuff of his red suit.

Marcus chuckled and gestured toward Alex with a mocking tone.

"That would be him."

Damian turned his gaze back to Alex and lingered there for a minute. This time he examined him with a bit of interest, though the faint amusement in his eyes made it clear that he still did not take the young man seriously. To him, Alex looked no different from the many others he had beaten effortlessly.

"I see... so this is my opponent? I hope you can put up more of a challenge. It’ll be a waste if I win easily without breaking a sweat."

Alex suppressed a sigh and slipped his hands into his pockets to make himself look cool and indifferent.

"Well, I’ll try not to disappoint you, just try not to disappoint me either. It’d be a real shame if the so-called legend fell in the first minute. Now that’ll be no fun."

His response instantly caused everyone to exchange surprised glances at each other. Most of them had expected the young man to feel intimidated after hearing about Damian Cross’s reputation, but instead the young man seemed unfazed and even slightly arrogant.

It looks like only when the young man gets humbled will he finally understand the gap between himself and a true master.

The thought passed through the minds of everyone as they watched the exchange with interest. Marcus was the first to break the brief silence. A low chuckle escaped from his lips before it quickly turned into a full blown laughter.

"Bwahahaha... What a joke? I must say kid, you are quite the comedian. You think you can beat Damian? Oh please."

’Laugh all you want old man, you’ll be choking on that laughter soon enough.’ Alex said mentally.

Nyx standing beside Alex said nothing. Her face remained cold, though the slight narrowing of her eyes showed that she was carefully observing both men. Despite her earlier concern, she had faith in Alex.

...This was because she believed that a man who could use fifteen dollars to win five million in a single night was not ordinary.

Damian looked a little stunned by Alex’s reply but then he suddenly gave a faint amused smile, as if he had just encountered something entertaining.

"You really got guts kid. I really like that spunk of yours. Nothing would give me greater joy than to crush you thoroughly, so that you can understand the difference between the heaven and the eart..."

Alex cut him off, already growing bored of the annoying man’s endless chatter.

"Are we starting or not? I have places to be and important things to do, ok! So let’s just get this thing started."

"Fine, since I’m in a good mood today, I’ll let you pick any game of your choice. How does that sound?"

’Pick any game?’ Alex’s eyes flashed slightly. ’Looks like the idiot was arrogant enough to give away the only advantage that mattered.

"Sure that sounds nice. So let me see which game do I pick... Oh how about a game of dice. One round decides who wins and who loses. Are you up for it?"

Marcus raised an eyebrow the moment Alex mentioned dice.

"A single round?" Marcus repeated with a strange smile. "Are you sure about that kid? That’s a pretty bold choice."

Damian on the other hand looked mildly intrigued with Alex’s choice.

"A one round game of dice, hmmm..." He murmured while tapping his finger lightly against the table. "It’s simple and fast. I like it."

Alex simply shrugged.

"What can I say, I simply don’t like wasting time."

Damian chuckled softly before pulling out a chair, and sitting down on it.

"Very well then. One round it is. But I must warn you, don’t cry when I win you later."

Alex suppressed a chuckle. He knew that with his cheat skill he was going to be the one laughing while "Mr Damian" over here would be the one crying.

Oh he so wanted to watch the fall of a legend. He could almost imagine how it would go... Damian Cross losing for the first time. First he might shout in disbelief and yell how Alex cheated then after a while, he’ll finally accept that he had lost and walk out dejectedly.

’Yep... That’s exactly how this is going to end.’

He could almost imagine how Marcus’ face was going to change. Right now the man was laughing loudly, completely convinced that the outcome of the match had already been decided. But Alex wondered how long that smug expression would last once he completely destroys Damian.

...Soon a staff member stepped forward and placed a polished black tray on the table along with a pair of ivory dice featuring deep ink-black spots.

The room gradually grew quiet as the crowd gathered closer, hell even the background music had already been turned off at some point. Everyone really wanted to see this match between the undefeated gambling king versus Nyx’s alleged boyfriend who dared to challenge him.

Damian picked up the dice and played with it by tossing them into the air and catching them with a flick of his wrist. With a bored sigh, he sent the dice skidding across the tray.

Clack! Clack! Clack!

They bounced violently against the table before finally coming to a stop.
