Building The Perfect Harem With My Heavenly Desire System-Chapter 38: The Systems Brutal Training
Chapter 38
The room went quiet after the chibi had finished speaking. Alex hesitated. Was it really wise for him to learn insane fighting skills if there’s a chance that he might not make it out alive? Was this whole thing really worth it?
He weighed the two options in his mind. One path was simple and safe. where he could sign up at a local gym, learn basic martial arts like taekwondo, maybe judo and slowly build his foundation, though it might take months, maybe years, before he could even use it in a real fight. But at least he’d still be alive.
And second. The harder, more dangerous path. Though it sounded brutal, it would be relatively faster. Plus from the way the system said it, it sounded like it would give him more rich combat experience and would temper his fighting skills all round.
Taking a deep breath, Alex decided to risk it all, and agreed to the system’s choice. He didn’t have the luxury of time, so it was better if he went for something faster and most effective. Plus there was that popular saying; no pain no gain.. or was it gain equals pain?. Anyways, the painful method was the most suitable choice for this situation.
"Yes I’m absolutely sure. I don’t care how brutal it is, or how much it hurts. All I want is to grow stronger, no matter the cost. In this life, I made a promise that I won’t be weak, and I will make sure to stand by that promise. So bring it on. I’m sure I can take it."
The chibi floated closer to his face, her large eyes narrowing.
[Look this isn’t the time to play a shonen protagonist or something. You could die, okay! Like D-I-E. Permanent game over. No coming back. And as much as I hate to say it... I don’t want you to die, okay.]
"That’s... Actually kind of sweet..."
[You didn’t let me finish my sentence. I was going to say, if you die, who am I going to annoy then? Life would be so lonely and cruel... Well, that is until I find a new host]
Alex stared at the little gremlin, his momentary touch of sentimentality evaporated instantly. At this point, he’d be lying if he said he didn’t feel touched for a moment, that is, before the mischievous gremlin decided to pull a uno reverse on him.
"You know? Sometimes I wonder if you were created this way or you just happened to bump your head against a mountain during manufacturing. Because that’s the only reasonable explanation that could explain your weird personality."
[Hey! What’s that supposed to mean? Maybe next time I should just keep my sympathy to myself] she huffed, crossing her tiny arms.
"Enough of that... So what’s the dangerous method that will improve my ability? Come on, spill it."
[Fine. So here’s the method. There’s currently a hidden space deep within the system that is designed to improve the host fighting ability. Now, as for that space, think of it as a simulated combat domain where you will fight another version of yourself. Now this version is going to be much stronger than you. By a lot. But before you fight your pseudo version, you have to battle monsters like beings... Think of your pseudo self as the dungeon boss, and the monster-like beings as the minions and cannon fodder. But take note; the monster like creatures are by no means weak]
"Okay I think I get it. So I basically have to shape my fighting skills through prolonged combat with monster-like creatures. And after defeating them, then I get to fight the final boss, who is basically just a cheap copy of me."
[Correcto mundo!]
"Huh?"
[Sigh. It’s basically Spanish for correct. Aren’t nerds like you supposed to know these things?]
Alex narrowed his eyes at the floating chibi, clearly not amused.
"First I don’t like being called a nerd. It brings back painful memories and second of all that training method you just suggested is absolutely crazy. Like who the hell comes up with such a crazy training method?"
[Look if you’re ready to begin the training tell me. But just know that once you begin, you won’t be able to come out until you’ve completed the training]
"But that could take months. I just can’t disappear from the real world]
[Relax. You have nothing to worry about. A day in the combat domain is basically like ten minutes in the real world. Time moves pretty slow there]
Alex leaned back against the bed, his gaze drifting toward the ceiling again as he processed everything. He was going to fight endless monsters and a stronger version of himself, in a place where time moved faster than that of the real world. And if he died there then he dies for real.
It sounded insane. But it also sounded exactly like what he needed. A normal person might have immediately refused the method once they heard everything, but to him. This was fair. Since he basically got his power without sweating hard, then this would be the right opportunity to temper himself.
"Alright. Let’s do this."
The chibi tilted her head, studying him for a second as if trying to confirm whether he was bluffing.
[You’re serious? Even after telling you all that, you still want to go there?]
"Yes."
[Honestly, you are a really stubborn man. But that’s also one of your best qualities]
A soft chime echoed in the room as a large blue panel with intricate design appeared in front of him.
[Combat Assimilation Protocol engaged]
[Warning: you will now be transported in Five... Four... Three... Two...]
The moment the count down dropped to zero, the world around him suddenly began to distort. The room twisted as colors stretched around each other before everything collapsed into a deep absolute darkness. For a brief second, there was nothing. No sound or sensation—just an empty void that stretched endlessly.
Then the pain slammed into him without any warning, it felt like his entire body had just been dropped into a furnace. By the time his vision snapped into focus, a massive, distorted fist was already heading straight toward his face.
With a sickening bang, his body flew into the air like a kite whose string had just been cut, and slammed his back against the hot jagged ground. The impact had clearly knocked the wind out of him. For a moment even breathing felt like a struggle. His body continued to scrape roughly against the jagged, heat scorched ground before finally coming to a halt.
’What the hell...’ he coughed tasting blood ’Who fucking throws a punch before someone even has the time to adjust to his environment? That was a low blo..."
His voice cut off, as soon as a large gloomy shadow loomed over him. Slowly, Alex lifted his head and sighted a grotesque looking being standing a few meters away.
The being looked far too tall to be human, nearly standing at seven feet tall with long elongated limbs. Its muscles stretched tight beneath a layer of rough grey skin that looked almost charred. Its face just looked... Wrong. Not because it was grotesque in the usual sense, but because it lacked anything human. There were just two hollow eyes fixed intently on him. Faint steam rose from the knuckles of the fist that had just sent him flying into the air.
Alex almost wanted to cry. Just what in hell was this creature? He had been expecting something easier on his first face off, not a demonic looking creature. This felt beyond him. He tried calling the system but realized that his connection with her had been cut off and began to panic.
’Dammit.’
Without any warning, the grotesque looking creature suddenly sprinted with unimaginable speed and lunged a frenzied attack toward Alex, aiming to rip his body apart, but Alex answered in time and forced his body to twist to the side, just as the creature’s claw like fingers slammed down where his head had been a second ago. The ground cracked on impact and jagged lines began spreading outward from the point of contact.
His eyes widened.
’That would’ve crushed my skull.’
Pushing himself upright, Alex closed his eyes and took a deep breath, trying to steel himself.
"Alright... Alright. It’s just a fight with a hideous looking monster, nothing to get so worked up on. You can do this, yeah you can do this... Just don’t get hit. How hard could it be."
The creature tilted it’s head slightly, as if observing him. Then quickly flashed toward his direction to land another attack. This time, Alex was expecting it. He quickly dodged the incoming punch and delivered a massive strike of his own to the monster’s chest, knocking it off balance.
"Gah...!"
The bastard skin was as hard as fuck. With a loud guttural roar the monster swung its elongated limb toward Alex’s head, but he managed to raise hand and block it. The force behind the strike was overwhelming and caused his entire arm to go numb instantly. His body was sent skidding backward across the rough ground but he managed to dig his feet into the scorched earth and forced himself to stop sliding.
’This bastard is just too ridiculously strong. Just what does it eat to gain this level of strength? And as for that system, I swear If I manage to survive this, I’m killing that system.’
