Chapter 40: Finally Meeting The Final Boss

Chapter 40

The words had barely left his mouth when the steel giant suddenly moved.

BOOM!

The monster’s foot slammed into the ground and in the next instant, its massive body lunged forward with terrifying speed, closing the distance in a few seconds. For something that looked way too large, it moved far too fast for its size.

Alex’s eyes widened.

"Shit!"

He reacted in time and threw himself to the side just as a metallic fist slammed against the spot where he had been standing. The impact sent a violent tremor through the jagged terrain, forcing Alex to stagger as the shockwave nearly knocked him off his feet.

"Shit that was a close one. One punch from that bastard and I would have ended up dead."

But the monster didn’t give him time to recover, instead it followed up with another brutal swing. Luckily, even though Alex was injured from the first fight with the previous monster, he was still much faster than the steel giant. The brute, even though fast, couldn’t compare with the previous beast. So he managed to duck under the second swing, and forced himself to circle around the monster instead of retreating. He was trying to figure out an easy way of putting the terrible abomination down without sustaining more injuries to his already battered body.

"The bastard is too strong," he hissed while keeping his eyes on the monster’s movement. "It’s way too strong to take head on alone."

After all, the difference between this creature and the last looked pretty obvious. The previous monster had relied on speed and ferocity, but this one looked like it was built for raw destruction and strength base attacks. That meant trying to fight the bastard head on would basically be suicide. But that didn’t mean it was invincible. Instead, what it had in strength and defense, it lacked in speed, so he still had a slight chance of overpowering it with his speed.

So abandoning any thought of trading blows, Alex leaned into his steps, letting his body stay light and fluid as he kept circling the towering figure. Meanwhile, the monster began to grow impatient with this tiny human, who had time without numbers, managed to avoid it attacks. Fueled by rage, it suddenly slammed its fists into the ground creating a massive crater of at least ten meters wide.

The resulting shockwave tossed Alex away and caused his body to collide against a massive stone base, east of the monster’s location. With a loud groan Alex cursed.

"Shit! What a crazy brute... Does it think acting like a certain rampaging green monster is going to makes it cool. Ouch! Ouch! I think I think I just cracked a rib."

Sucking in a sharp breath, he forced himself to stand upright despite the stabbing pain at his side and focused back on the fight. The steel giant, not giving him the luxury of recovery, turned toward him slowly. Its massive frame creaked as those layered plates of dark metallic hide shifted against each other.

With every step it took, the ground trembled beneath it. Determined to look for a weak spot, Alex gritted his teeth, pushed himself away from the stone base and dashed toward the armoured covered giant. He spotted a small gap in the creature’s flank and unleashed a lightning fast strike. But the moment his fist connected, pain exploded through his right hand.

"Fuck!"

He recoiled immediately, as his hand went numb. It turned out that the gap in the brute’s armour was just a trap. Underneath the first layer of the armor was still another denser plate of armor. 𝑓𝑟ℯ𝘦𝓌𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝑐ℴ𝓂

"Dammit! Who designs a seemingly invincible opponent for the second fight? Of course... the little system."

The steel giant becoming more and more enraged by its inability to catch the annoying human, ferociously swung its massive arm toward Alex direction, but Alex quickly dropped low, making the attack pass just inches away from his hair. The wind alone almost threw him off balance, but he didn’t stop moving. He couldn’t afford to.

With a push, he slid away from the monster, creating space between them once more, as his mind worked rapidly.

He couldn’t afford to go for the body, it was fully protected with no weakness, the joints were a no go area. It was practically sealed shut. Alex eyes immediately widened once he thought of something. The head! Why hadn’t he thought of it sooner. It was basically the only part of the steel giant that wasn’t covered in steel armor, making it the perfect weak spot.

With a playful smirk on his lips, Alex bent down and picked up a jagged piece of rock, he first tossed it into the air before catching it. As the steel giant rushed toward his direction with a devastating punch, Alex swung his arm and hurled the stone with every ounce of strength into the monster’s maw.

The rock shot forward with terrifying intensity and smashed into the creature’s maw, shattering several jagged teeth on impact and forcing a distorted howl from the monster. Using that momentarily lapse, Alex dashed forward. Closing the distance in a second, he reached into his spatial storage space and pulled out the first thing he could find.

"A fork? Seriously?! Fine... I guess it will just have to do."

He leapt forward, ignoring the pain in his ribs and drove himself upward toward the giant’s head. The creature reacted and swung its massive arms wildly. But Alex was already inside its range. Without any hesitation, he thrust the fork forward with everything he had and for a second it seemed to dig into the creature’s forehead, before it stopping immediately.

"What the hell?! This can not be happening right now! No no no."

The giant roared and began trying to grab the annoying human on its head. But Alex refused, he couldn’t let all his hardwork go to waste. So with a shout, he pushed his entire weight into the makeshift weapon.

"GO IN!"

With a crack, the skull gave way, making the fork sink all the way in, destroying the creature’s Brain. With a violent shudder, hot green liquid immediately burst out, splashing across Alex’s face and chest.

After a second or two the steel giant finally fell to the ground with a loud thud, raising a cloud of dust into the Air. The fearsome brute was finally dead.

*****

Facing perilous monsters day in day out with no rest, Alex quickly lost his perception of time. He didn’t know how long he had been inside this world, fighting different fearsome beast in a life and death situation. It could have been weeks, months, years, maybe even a century... Okay maybe not a century but still, it felt pretty long.

Today he had just finished off a crab like creature with formidable defense, speed and deadly attacks. It hadn’t been an easy fight, but his accumulated fighting skills which had taken a dramatic leap over the past few months... maybe years had helped him in the life and death struggle.

Now to a certain degree, he could boast of being able to handle the baby faced girl from before without sustaining any damage like before. But, with all the prolonged battle, his body had taken sufficient damage that would have incapacitated an average human. If it weren’t for the items that he had stored beforehand in his spatial storage space, then he might have died from either hunger or infection.

Sitting on the ragged ground, he watched as the dangerous crab like monstrosity’s body slowly broke apart, dissolving into a wisp of smoke before fading into the air. Alex exhaled slowly, and dropped his shoulders as the heavy tension from earlier left his body.

Another fight. Another win.

But deep down, he was beginning to grow exhausted of the whole thing. It had been days on days of non stop combat, and the meager foodstuffs in his spatial storage space was beginning to finish. So if he didn’t face the big boss soon, he might just die of hunger.

And deep down, though he refused to say it, Alex was beginning to miss the system. He missed her antics, her crazy jokes and her constant annoying presence. After all, she was one of the only true friend he had ever made in his life. Surprisingly, he even found himself missing a lot of people. He missed Olivia afterall she was technically one of his woman, he also missed the annoying underworld queenpin, but he’ll be damned if he ever admit that.

As he was still reminiscing, the world turned ominously quieter, before a human like being suddenly appeared out of thin air. The being had tousled black hair with glowing green eyes that shone like emeralds, pale porcelain skin that looked unreal and an absolutely stunning face that could make all the girls in the world offer up their panties just for a smile. The creature was dressed in pure black clothes that seemed to complement his well defined body.

Overall, the being looked like the peak of perfection in a human, the only thing that made the being look dangerous was the ominous smile at the end of his lips. Once Alex saw its face he couldn’t help but gasp. It looked like an exact replica of him, and the final boss of this world.
