Campus Ace Girl-Chapter 537 - 538: Your Place, or Mine?
As he got in the car, he made a call to Gu Anxi. "Thanks, Anxi."
In fact, Anxi had also made a considerable sacrifice. Everyone in the Gu family must have thought Anxi was infatuated with him, that pretty boy!
Gu Anxi was quite magnanimous. "You’re welcome, Congwen. Why don’t we go celebrate? A few drinks would liven things up."
Shen Congwen’s voice was very gentle. "Are you trying to get me drunk again?"
Does he have to be so sharp! Gu Anxi thought.
They didn’t end up scheduling a drink. Instead, Shen Congwen spoke softly, "I don’t want to go to work for the time being. Is that okay, Boss Gu?"
Gu Anxi readily agreed. "Sure, I’ll give you two months off."
After ending the call, Shen Congwen drove straight back to his apartment. Coming out of the parking garage and into the elevator, he unexpectedly bumped into Zhou Yunchen.
Zhou Yunchen appeared to be returning from outside; he carried a bag of simple cooked food and a few cans of beer.
Seeing him, Shen Congwen shifted slightly to make more room in the elevator.
Lately, Zhou Yunchen hadn’t been able to find him and didn’t expect to run into him now. He chuckled, "Vice President Shen, finally good to see you."
Shen Congwen glanced at him. "I’m no longer Vice President Shen."
Zhou Yunchen was surprised. "You quit?"
Shen Congwen gave a faint smile. "Yes, I resigned."
Zhou Yunchen gestured with his hand. "Feeling down? How about coming over to my place for a couple of drinks?"
He originally thought Shen Congwen would definitely refuse, but to his surprise, Shen Congwen easily agreed. "Sure."
Zhou Yunchen looked at him, somewhat dumbfounded.
Shen Congwen leaned against the elevator wall, tilting his chin. "We’re at your floor. Your place or mine?"
Those words hit Zhou Yunchen like a pie falling from the sky. He swallowed silently, staring at Shen Congwen, terrified he might bolt. "My place. Let’s go to my place. I’ve got ingredients in the fridge; I can cook for you."
Shen Congwen offered a faint smile. "Just a couple of dishes will do."
Zhou Yunchen’s gaze lingered on his face. He sensed that Congwen seemed a bit different somehow.
Shen Congwen looked at him. "Why are you staring at me like that?"
Zhou Yunchen blocked the elevator door with one hand, leaning forward. "Does this mean... I’ve been promoted?"
Shen Congwen was pressed against the elevator wall, a distinct look of reluctance—or perhaps feeling cornered—on his face.
He looked at the man practically nose-to-nose with him. The pressure was still intense; more than that, he was unaccustomed to this and felt completely flustered.
His eyes downcast, he said, "Zhou Yunchen, step back. If people see us like this, it won’t look good."
Zhou Yunchen’s gaze fell on his light blue shirt. He smiled indifferently, his voice a soft, low murmur, "What if I like it this way? Besides, who cares what others think?"
He felt a growing certainty that Shen Congwen was giving in, or at the very least, was willing to be with him.
Zhou Yunchen, ever the gentleman, stepped back slightly, holding the elevator door open for Shen Congwen to exit first. He then followed and swiped his card to open his apartment door.
His apartment was like a model unit. The 140-square-meter space had only one bedroom and one study, making the living room very spacious, especially with its broad floor-to-ceiling windows. The decor was also very tasteful.
Zhou Yunchen put down his keys. "You can relax on the sofa and watch some TV. I’ll go whip up a couple of dishes."
Shen Congwen gave a faint smile.
Zhou Yunchen took a couple of steps, then suddenly turned back. "Congwen," he said, his voice very soft, "you should quit smoking."
Shen Congwen’s gaze met his. After a moment, he gave a small laugh. "Okay."
Actually, Zhou Yunchen hadn’t initially intended anything like this. He had just wanted to invite him for a casual drink, to nurture their connection a bit. But now, Congwen was being so compliant...
He couldn’t stop himself from walking back. He pinned Congwen between the sofa and his own body, leaning in close. "That day... did you really not like it?"
As he spoke, he affectionately nuzzled his nose against Congwen’s.
