Captive Mate BL-Chapter 614: - - -
Nikolai handled business calmly, sharp eyes on his men acting antsy for no reason. They had been taking it easy for the week, and the idleness was bound to make them antsy, but something seemed off about it all.
Starting to get used to having someone relay his orders and handle the small issues, he had someone get Fallon.
"The men seem antsy," He noted harmlessly, relaxing in the private booth he was in.
Fallon scratched his head, "They do?" He decided to play dumb.
He wasn’t about to be the one to tell the boss that his precious assassin wasn’t in his office where he left him, even though the longer Angelo was away without the boss’ knowledge, the more danger there was.
"They can take it easy for the rest of today," Nikolai announced, feeling generous.
Fallon could feel his arm tingling where he had just gotten his cast taken off, feeling like he was about to get the cast back. "The men don’t need the time off, they’re raring to go."
Nikolai wasn’t listening, his thoughts elsewhere, "Well, they’re getting it." He said decisively, already rising to his feet.
Angelo should be rousing from his nap soon, he needed to get lunch ready for when he woke up.
Trying to delay Mafia King Nikolai was no better than revealing everything to him, so Fallon went off to relay the order he had gotten. If they were lucky, they would be gone before the boss noticed Angelo’s absence.
He stepped out of the bar in time to see a car pulling in, a familiar figure slinking out of the car when it came to a stop, and heading right for the back of the bar.
That was quicker than he had been expecting, it had only been a couple hours, right in the nick of time, too.
Angelo got to the office at the same time that Nikolai did. The Mafia King had been about to open the door when he showed up, and there was a split moment where his expression was completely blank.
Nikolai took one look at Angelo’s bloody, disheveled appearance and put the puzzle pieces together. It also explained why his men had been so jumpy for the past couple hours.
Angelo’s smile was blinding, dimple flashing. He raised the paper bag he held, "I brought lunch."
Nikolai took the bag and his wrist, opening the door so they could go in. "Where did you go?" He asked coldly.
Angelo wanted to walk right past to his favorite chair, he had done a lot of work today. "To finish what we started," He said casually, ignoring Nikolai’s anger.
He knew that this would only make it harder to sneak out without the Alpha’s knowledge but that added to the thrill.
Nikolai’s jaw was clenched hard enough to chip teeth but he stopped them at his desk so he could take out wipes to clean the blood on Angelo’s face and clothes the best he could.
He gave him a quick once over once he was relatively clean. "Are you hurt?"
Angelo was pleasantly surprised by how well he was taking it, "No, just hungry." He replied with his eyes on the hotdogs he had gotten from a streetside stand.
"Let’s eat," Nikolai agreed, letting go of his wrist in favor of the bag.
Angelo couldn’t help squirming when they settled in the seating area in a corner, Nikolai was far too calm about things. He didn’t even get the chance to use the excuses he had come up with on the ride back.
"I gave the men the rest of the day off," Nikolai changed the conversation, his expression changing a fraction when he pulled out the hotdogs.
Angelo’s brows furrowed, "Why? What’s wrong?"
"The days are slow, and without the casino to run, they don’t have to stick around." He explained briefly.
Angelo deflated at the mention of the casino, making Nikolai’s eyes narrow.
"Go on a date with me," It was less of a request and more of a demand.
It startled Angelo out of his dark thoughts, making him smear ketchup on his top lip. "A date?" He repeated with wide eyes, wondering how they got to that point. "Okay."
Nikolai leaned across the table to wipe the ketchup with a thumb, bringing it to his lips. "Do you still want to go to the park?"
Now Angelo’s eyes lit up - the last time they had been there, he hadn’t gotten to see the amusement park properly because it was late at night and then it had started raining so their trip had been cut short.
"Yes!" He was quick with an answer, his excitement clear to hear. The rest of his hotdog didn’t seem as appetizing anymore.
Nikolai dipped his head to hide a smile, finishing up his hotdog.
Angelo did the same in less time, rising to hhs feet energetically. On his way back, he had been thinking of a shower and getting to take his nap that had been interrupted but not anymore.
Nikolai rose to his feet as well, his movements languid. "You’re not going to need your knives." He noted casually.
Angelo glanced down at his body, thinking about how much the knives would get in the way on the rides. He didn’t need much prompting to pile them on the low table, next to the crumpled brown paper bag.
This time, he took Nikolai’s wrist before the Alpha could, a little impatient as he started for the door.
Nikolai let himself be pulled along, remembering to grab his trench coat before they left. At the door, he turned around to give one last look to the pile of gleaming knives, his dark eyes seemed to reflect the glints.
The bar was already emptying out when they left the office, Angelo didn’t pay attention to the men dotting the bar, marching right for a car.
Nikolai swallowed down his disgruntlement at Angelo’s blatant interest in the amusement park over him, going around to the driver’s seat when Angelo let go of his wrist.
He eagerly offered his wrist back to the assassin as he drove out of the parking lot, satisfied when Angelo took it without complaints.
