The fierce and disordered battlefield halted for a second as if someone had hit the pause button. Then an even greater uproar descended.

"Fuck, it’s the police!"

"Nobody told me that the police are going to get involved!"

"Well, they didn’t tell us that we’re here to fight this monster either!"

"Fuck this, I quit! I’d rather throw that blank check away than risk my life! I should have known something was shady from the start!"

In a blink of an eye, the scene turned into pure chaos as everyone scrambled away like headless flies. Some pushed their way to the emergency stairs, while others sprinted toward the skywalk, intending to escape as far away as possible from the police. The officers struggled to restrain them since they were not allowed to use guns on civilians.

"Don’t move!"

"Hey, where do you think you’re going, son of a bitch?!"

"Get back here!"

The officers’ enraged shouts added on to the chaos, making the atmosphere more tumultuous and disorderly. Amidst them all, only He Juan stood motionless as he stared at the messy scene before him.

Several meters away, Mu Yuze’s heart shuddered in pain when he saw the Alpha in such a horrible state. The chaotic scuffle between the police and the thugs seemed like a blur in his eyes, and only He Juan alone remained vivid and clear.

Despite the blood covering him from head to toe, Mu Yuze seemed to be able to see a string of translucent droplets sliding down his cheeks, and the notion of He Juan – such a powerful and reliable man like He Juan – was crying caused his heart to wrench in such intense agony as if invisible hands were squeezing and tearing it apart.

He Juan’s silver eyes were vacant as his lips moved, muttering the same words again and again.

Other people might view him as a devil or a monster, but in Mu Yuze’s eyes, he was just like a confused child who had lost his way.

Realizing that He Juan was calling for him even in such a battered state, an involuntary sob escaped him, unbidden. It hurt so much that each gasping breath he took felt like shards of glass slicing through his most tender flesh, spilling out blood. He haphazardly wiped away the tears blurring his vision, his teeth clenching in determination.

Gege... Gege, I’m here! I’m here for you!

Mu Yuze had never felt so much energy coursing through him before. It was as if all the pain, exhaustion and stress in his body had faded into nothing, leaving only the unwavering resolve to reach his Alpha. His steps felt so light and nimble, almost like he had sprouted wings behind his back.

Alas, before he could close the distance to reach He Juan, his peripheral vision caught sight of a figure standing oddly still amidst the chaos. Mu Yuze subconsciously turned to look, and his pupils dilated sharply when he recognized that it was none other than Chen Lian who had mixed into the fray, and she was currently holding a gun aimed directly at He Juan!

An explosion seemed to go off in Mu Yuze’s mind as he sprung into action before his brain could catch up with his body. He lunged at Chen Lian and kicked her wrist, sending the gun flying in a high arc in midair!

However, he was a fraction of a second too late, and the bullet ended up grazing against He Juan’s shoulder!

"Gege!" Mu Yuze cried out in fright when he witnessed He Juan staggering from the impact.

In response to his intervention, Chen Lian growled in rage, but before she could do anything, Li Zhi swiftly descended to the scene and restrained her movements, twisting her arms behind her back.

"Officer Chen, stop it and come back to your senses!"

"Why..." Chen Lian was in a state of disbelief and incredulity. She desperately struggled to break free from Li Zhi’s grasp to no avail. "Why are you defending him too, Captain?! He’s a cold-blooded murderer! He deserves to die after all the people he has killed, so why did you stop me?!" she demanded in a shrill voice, almost screaming herself hoarse.

Li Zhi was stunned for a split second, for this was the first time he’d ever witnessed such an intense emotional outburst from the typically cool-headed and composed female officer. But he soon recovered his senses and snapped at her fiercely, "Even if he deserves to die, you must not be the one to execute it! Do you want your hands to be stained with blood too?!"

Hearing those words, Chen Lian let out a despairing laugh.

Her next words were lost to Mu Yuze, whose gaze was fixed on He Juan’s trembling form. "Gege...?"

He Juan clutched his bleeding shoulder, his head lowered. The prolonged battle, the endless swarm of people attacking him, the debilitating headache, and the heavy mental strain had put him in the state of near madness. He felt like he had been plunged back into that world of darkness, where his sole focus was to eliminate everyone who stood in his way, no matter who it was.

The sharp and burning pain on his shoulder managed to snap him back to his senses somewhat, and when his blurred vision focused, what greeted him was the scene of a messy battle.

The police mixed in, their guns pointed at him, the heavy stench of blood and fear permeating the air— it all felt eerily familiar.

Ah, He Juan found himself thinking amidst the pounding headache, was he back? Had he returned to that fateful day seven years ago, when he could do nothing but watch as his world crumbled apart before his eyes? However...

He lowered his eyes and saw no one in his arms.

Where was the person he was supposed to protect?

Where... where was he?!

Realizing that he had lost his most precious, He Juan’s vision was instantly shrouded in a crimson haze, and something within him seemed to shatter into pieces. "Ah..." a broken, guttural sound was emitted from his throat. At that moment, it was as if the last string holding his sanity snapped, and he fully descended into madness.

"AHHH—!!" Falling onto his knees, he clutched his head and screamed in such despair and agony that it sent chills to everyone who heard it.

I’m sorry. I’m sorry. I’m sorry, was the single thought echoing relentlessly in He Juan’s frenzied mind. It’s all my fault. It’s all because of me that you have to suffer. I’m sorry. I’m sorry...

The pheromones he released reached an unprecedented level. It was to the point where everyone instantly ceased fighting and focused on running away, securing their own survival.

"Run!!"

"The monster runs amok ahhh!"

"Captain!" An officer cried out with a gun ready in hand. "Captain, what should we do?! We can’t wait for the ambulance any longer!"

Li Zhi gritted his teeth, his face paling in the face of such overwhelming pressure. He was ready to give an order to shoot, when the corner of his eyes caught sight of a dark shadow rushing against the flow of people. Horror flashed across his eyes when he realized what Mu Yuze was about to do.

"Mu Yuze!" He hollered. "Stop it! He’s gone feral!"

Disregarding the alarmed cries behind him, Mu Yuze fixed his gaze forward, tears falling freely from his black-blue eyes. He steeled himself against the pressure He Juan emitted and, bit by bit, dragged himself closer to the Alpha.

Each step he took felt like crossing a mountain of swords and sea of fire, sending a surge of blood up his throat. He Juan’s wild pheromones strived to push people away from him. Yet not only Mu Yuze forced his way through the invisible barrier, he even embraced it, allowing it to envelop his entire body.

So what if the man had gone feral? So what if he was extremely dangerous?

For Mu Yuze, there was only one place where he could wholly feel safe and secure, and that was within the arms of the most terrifying man.

He flew forward like an unstoppable arrow, straight toward his beloved that was going berserk. "Gege!"
