Captured By The Cold Detective (BL)-Chapter 684: Gentle Raindrops
"Gege—!" Mu Yuze pounced on He Juan and wrapped his arms around the agitated man, clinging on for dear life.
"Gege, gege, it’s me! I’m here... I’m here now!" he kept calling out for He Juan amidst his sobs.
His heart grieved and wept and broke all over again when He Juan did not seem to notice his presence, too consumed by the demons wreaking havoc on his mind. He almost screamed himself hoarse to the point where Mu Yuze could feel the raw intensity of his anguish resonating in the very air around them.
So this is what Juan-gege has been enduring all alone... so this is the burden he has been shouldering... 𝐟𝕣𝗲𝕖𝕨𝗲𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝗲𝚕.𝗰𝚘𝐦
"Juan-gege... He Juan...!" Fumbling, Mu Yuze cupped the man’s face, determined to redirect those haunting silver eyes toward him. And he almost burst out into tears once more when he saw the bleakness and despair in He Juan’s otherwise gentle silver eyes, as tears continued to pour out of them.
Never before had Mu Yuze seen them look so dim, as though not even the strongest light could ever penetrate their depths anymore. It became all the more unbearable because he had just learned about what had happened in the past. It hurt. It hurt so much that he felt like dying. The sheer agony he was feeling right now transcended the pain any kinds of physical wounds could ever cause. Seeing his beloved tormented like this made Mu Yuze feel like his soul was bleeding as well.
Disregarding the blood on He Juan’s body, he delicately wiped the tears on the man’s cheek, his movement was extremely gentle and careful as if he was handling a fragile thing. He brushed aside the bloodstained hair plastered on He Juan’s face and pressed his lips on He Juan’s forehead, right where the scar marred the once flawless skin.
Slowly, he traced a path across He Juan’s eyelids, nose and cheeks— everywhere he could reach. All the while he kept murmuring soothing reassurance and releasing his own pheromones, hoping that his presence could reach the man and snap him out of his hysteria.
"Gege, it’s fine. Everything is fine," he whispered with a thick nasal voice. "I’m here. I’m not going anywhere. Everything will be fine..."
His tender and coaxing voice, his sweet and refreshing pheromones, his warmth, his breath, his powerful heartbeat... all of them were akin to gentle raindrops descending into He Juan’s gloomy abyss. It created nothing but a small ripple at first, but eventually the impact expanded, until He Juan’s numb senses were able to perceive something. The raindrops felt surprisingly warm, washing over him bit by bit, gently and affectionately, as though it could wash away the filth staining his soul as well.
Eventually, his screams ceased into silence, and the wild pheromones surging out of him subsided.
As if the first ray of sunshine had pierced its way through the dark and murky clouds.
Slowly, very very slowly, He Juan raised his trembling hand and placed it on Mu Yuze’s back. Ba-thump! Ba-thump! He could feel Mu Yuze’s heartbeat resonating through his palm. It was a solid and powerful rhythm, so full of life and vitality...
Sensing the tentative touch on his back, Mu Yuze jerked in surprise. He eased back and searched He Juan’s eyes, and an overwhelming sense of relief overcame him when he found that He Juan’s eyes had regained their luster, and they were now staring straight at him, as if the man couldn’t believe that he was here right now.
"G–Gege...?" Mu Yuze reached out and tenderly cradled He Juan’s cheeks, his voice shaky and careful. "Gege, have you come to? Can you recognize me?"
He Juan’s chapped lips parted, and an extremely hoarse voice drifted out, filled with pain. "Mu... Yuze..."
"Yes... Yes...!" Mu Yuze burst out into tears as he wiped away the tears sliding down He Juan’s cheeks. Yet the more he did, the more they seemed to pour out. They fell from his eyes silently, yet the sight of it was nothing but devastating for Mu Yuze. "Gege, I’m here..." he added, his voice thick with emotion. "Can you hear me? I’m here with you. I will not go anywhere. So stop crying... please..."
"You..." He Juan’s breath hitched on his throat. "Did they..."
He couldn’t seem to finish his sentence, but Mu Yuze understood him regardless. He shook his head, his eyes curving into crescents despite the tears welling in them. "I’m fine. Nothing happens to me. Silly Juan-gege, you should worry about yourself first."
Truth to be told, he did not sound too convincing, with the bruises and the smudges of dirt on his face. He looked utterly disheveled, yet He Juan still gazed at him as if he was the most beautiful creature that ever existed.
Tears filled his eyes as he beheld the breathtaking radiance of Mu Yuze’s eyes, so pure and dazzling that he couldn’t take his gaze off.
His flower... his little flower, the one and only light of his pitch-black world, had returned to him once more...
As the realization sank into his mind, He Juan pulled Mu Yuze into his embrace with such desperation it was as if he wished to meld them into one. He buried his face into the crook of Mu Yuze’s neck, his tears dripping onto Mu Yuze’s shoulder. "Mu Yuze... Mu Yuze..." he whispered again and again, his broad frame trembling.
His pheromones, now warm and gentle, wrapped around Mu Yuze like a heated blanket amid a chilling night, dispersing the remnants of others’ lingering scents.
Mu Yuze almost immediately relaxed into He Juan’s arms, his body going slack. Tears spilled from his eyes, but now it was one of happiness. "I’m here..." he answered with a raspy voice. "I’m here, Gege."
As the crisis was quickly brought under control, everyone on the scene was left dumbfounded and astonished in equal measure.
"It... It’s over?"
"Has it always been this easy to calm down a feral Alpha?"
"We... we survived! We didn’t have to die, woo-hoo!!"
Alas, they hadn’t even gotten the chance to fully savor the relief of escaping death, when all of a sudden the ground rumbled beneath their feet. Cries of surprise and terror filled the air. "What’s going on?!"
"Captain, look!" an officer exclaimed in alarm.
Li Zhi followed his comrade’s line of sight, and his eyes widened when he saw that the next building was going up in flames, and it was rapidly spreading toward their location!
