Upon hearing that question, He Juan chuckled, "Other than the strict surveillance that can get a little annoying, everything is fine." He added with a wistful sigh, "I miss you terribly, though. You have no idea how many times I wished to end this sooner so I don’t have to leave you again."

Mu Yuze basked in the Alpha’s warm affection like a sunflower chasing after the sun, but then his heart thudded when he recalled that nothing was set in the stone yet. Although everything had gone according to He Juan’s plans until now, they had no idea what his final verdict would be, and whether there would be any unforeseen variables popping up in between.

Sensing his concerns, He Juan nosed along his cheek and reassured him softly, "Don’t worry, everything will be fine."

How can you be so sure? Mu Yuze almost blurted out, but he held himself back because he did not want to spoil the intimate atmosphere between them.

Shortly after, the microwave let out a soft ding, signaling that the meal was ready. Mu Yuze remained seated on He Juan’s lap, curling his entire body into He Juan’s embrace, as the Alpha lovingly fed him food, spoiling him rotten.

The topic of their conversation shifted to Chen Lian.

Upon learning her real identity, He Juan fell into a contemplative silence. The following day, Mu Yuze caught him speaking to Han Shan through the phone. He knew that He Juan wouldn’t be able to leave her alone, but at this rate, the only thing he could do was to offer monetary support for her family. Chen Lian would absolutely go batshit crazy if she found out that He Juan intended to help her, so He Juan must have gone to Han Shan for help.

Sure enough, Mu Yuze’s guesses were correct.

"Things are progressing smoothly," Mu Yuze updated him. "Her younger sister received a scholarship from Mr. Han’s foundation, and the expenses for her mother’s recovery have been covered. But I don’t know where she is right now."

After that incident, Chen Lian seemed to have vanished into thin air. It was unknown whether she was still planning to return to her family or not.

He Juan released a heavy sigh, "It will be okay if she comes after me. After all, everything’s my fault. But she targeted you instead..."

Mu Yuze recalled the instance where Chen Lian had sincerely apologized to him back in the police station. The regret and remorse in her eyes were genuine, especially upon learning what kind of heinous accident had almost befallen Mu Yuze. It seemed she had been kept in the dark about Ku Jin and Luo Xuan’s plans, believing that Mu Yuze would only be used as a leverage to draw out He Juan.

With the upcoming trial looming over them, Mu Yuze had forgotten to tell He Juan of this brief exchange.

"Don’t worry," Mu Yuze tilted his head and bit down gently on the Alpha’s jaw. "I don’t think such an accident will happen again."

Unbeknownst to them, Mu Yuze devoured all of the dishes, not even leaving a bite for the Alpha.

The sight of the empty plates caught Mu Yuze slightly off guard. Had he always been such a big eater? After pondering for a while, he shrugged it off. This must be because his energy had been drained in order to keep up with He Juan’s fervent rhythm, making him feel hungrier than usual.

He Juan was elated upon seeing Mu Yuze’s big appetite. He pinched Mu Yuze’s chin and planted a little smooch on his lips, praising, "My baby eats so well~"

The two of them remained inseparable until the moment Mu Yuze had to leave.

Albeit reluctant, Mu Yuze knew that he couldn’t linger for long. He had to leave before the guards returned and caught him red-handed. He did not want to get He Juan in trouble, especially not at a time like this. But alas, he couldn’t help but give He Juan one last hug on the doorway, trying to etch this solid warmth into his skin.

"When will I be able to see you again?" he asked gloomily.

He Juan dropped a kiss on his crown. "Soon," he promised.

They bid farewell, and Mu Yuze had to drag his feet out of the house, feeling like he had left his heart behind with the Alpha. As he walked back to his car listlessly, the presence of someone else drew his attention.

"Hey!" Kang Guanyu straightened up and waved at him. "How was it? Did you have a good time together?" he teased, wiggling his brows in an ambiguous gesture.

Mu Yuze’s expression remained deadpan as he nodded. "Thank you. You’re a great help."

Kang Guanyu was a little disappointed by his lukewarm reaction. He tutted, "Not even a hug? Or a smile? I’ve worked so hard to create this opportunity for you!"

"Scram," Mu Yuze raised his leg to kick him playfully, prompting Kang Guanyu to yelp and dodge.

Just then, a faint breeze blew, carrying a subtle scent to Mu Yuze’s nose. His expression instantly changed and he slapped a hand over his mouth, his stomach spasming.

"M–Mu Yuze?" Kang Guanyu was startled by his reaction. "Are you okay?" He inched closer to inspect Mu Yuze’s condition, and only then did Mu Yuze realize that this horrible stench he was smelling had come from the other person.

"D–Don’t come any closer!" He choked out.

However, he couldn’t suppress the nausea anymore and rushed to the nearby shrubs, vomiting all the food he had just eaten. He puked so hard that his stomach was cramping, tears springing up his eyes.

Kang Guanyu hovered around him, panicked, "What is it? A stomach bug? Food poisoning? Should I call an ambulance for you?!"

Heaving, Mu Yuze took some time to regain his bearings. He wiped his lips and shook his head at Kang Guanyu, his expression mildly disgusted. "Why the hell do you stink so much? Did you change your perfume?"

"I– I stink?!" Kang Guanyu pointed at his own nose in shock and disbelief. He sniffed around his collar and armpits, but did not detect any strange smell. Feeling wronged, he hurriedly defended himself, "How can it be possible? I took a shower before coming here, and I didn’t even put on any perfume! It’s you... you are the one who’s been feeling unwell since this morning!"

Mu Yuze shook his head. He wanted to explain how he had been doing just fine – very fine, in fact – when he was with He Juan, and it was only when he sensed this strange smell from Kang Guanyu that he—

His train of thoughts screeched to a halt as a new possibility flashed in his mind.

"Hello???" Kang Guanyu called out worriedly upon seeing Mu Yuze standing still in a daze, a hand resting on his stomach. "Earth to Comrade Mu? Are you sure you’re fine? I can—"

"I..." Mu Yuze cut him off, panic apparent in his pale face. "I need to drop by the pharmacy." After saying that, he strode toward his car and pressed on the car key to unlock the vehicle.

Left behind, Kang Guanyu hurried to chase after him, exclaiming, "Wait, let me drive you! What if you faint midway?!" 𝙛𝒓𝒆𝙚𝒘𝒆𝓫𝙣𝓸𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝒄𝒐𝓶

"Get lost!" Mu Yuze snarled at him fiercely like a bristling cat. "Don’t even think of stepping one foot in my car with your smelly body!"

Kang Guanyu cried out, aggrieved, "I told you that I don’t stink!!"
