Capturing the Young Doctor's Heart: Mr. Big Shot Won't Let Me Go-Chapter 158: Confession
She held him for a long, long time before letting go.
The shadows of the trees flickered on the car window. His deep eyes gazed at her, the gentle steadiness in them spreading out, as if threads of love were entangled her in the depths of his gaze.
An inexplicable emotion surged within her heart, ready to overflow like a breached dam. The more she tried to suppress it, the more uncomfortable she felt. She didn’t know how to ease it.
So, she instinctively guided his hand to her heart and leaned in to kiss his lips.
The air around them seemed to heat up.
Keane Lowell’s large hand pressed against her through a layer of fabric, only able to feel her breathing fluctuate. Even though she hadn’t said a word, he could guess what she meant.
Her heart was hurting.
She wanted him to soothe it.
But now, he wanted to help ease her in a different way.
"Do you want to?"
A low, magnetic voice arose, and Claire Prescott’s body stiffened, instantly becoming somewhat apprehensive.
In broad daylight, here, it was too reckless.
Her family was still in the nearby restaurant.
People occasionally walked past.
Claire quietly said: "Not outside."
"Then at home?"
Even though last night they had already been intimate, and they had had plenty of experiences before, when he brought it up so bluntly, she still couldn’t quite handle it.
Claire nodded, calmly returning to the passenger seat and fastening her seat belt.
Due to his provocation, that uncomfortable feeling was instantly replaced by tension.
Occasionally recalling her father’s anger on the way still filled her with worry.
She glanced at Keane’s profile.
When he’s focused, she can always feel a coldness emanating from him, combined with his sharp jawline, it makes his aura intimidating.
"Did you have lunch?"
He responded softly: "Not yet."
"Have you been waiting outside for me this whole time?"
"Mm."
Upon hearing this, Claire’s heart tightened, as she frowned and dialed Auntie Susan to ask her to prepare lunch.
After hanging up, she said to him: "From now on, whether it’s work or anything else, make sure to eat your three meals on time. You can’t miss a single one."
Previously, she had been so busy that she forgot to eat, she didn’t think much of it, but she couldn’t bear to see him miss a meal.
Clearly, he could have eaten while waiting at the restaurant earlier.
She had promised to find him after she finished, and she wouldn’t break her word.
Keane glanced at her and explained: "I couldn’t eat."
Claire had nothing more to say and looked out the car window distractedly.
Back at Azure Court.
Auntie Susan had already prepared lunch, after a brief appearance, she disappeared somewhere to tend to other matters.
Only they were there in the dining room.
Sitting facing each other.
Keane, while eating slowly, kept an eye on her eating habits, helping her with dishes. 𝙧𝙚𝙚𝔀𝒆𝓫𝓷𝙤𝓿𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝙤𝓶
The scene made it clear she hadn’t eaten much at lunch, now she seemed burdened with heavy thoughts.
Despite trying to hide it, a few emotions leaked out inadvertently, coupled with her father’s phone call, her eyes hadn’t brightened since.
Earlier in Valoria, when she’s upset, just a simple hug from him could comfort her.
Now, it seemed not to be enough.
"Keane." Claire raised her eyes to him, her words slightly more serious: "I want to know everything about our families."
Keane paused his actions and, after a moment of silence, responded: "It’s better not to know, it might affect us."
"Some things I should face, shouldn’t I?"
"It’s unnecessary."
"Last time your family came to find me, although I didn’t communicate with them, I could tell she didn’t like me." Claire added: "I just want to know the reason behind it, what happened between our families in the past."
Seeing her determined and stubborn, Keane resignedly, finally told her the truth. "Initially, The Lowell Family helped the Prescott Family become Valoria’s top merchant; the condition was a marriage alliance. Your grandfather broke off the engagement."
His words were concise.
Claire understood the implication, continued to ask: "Then the person who was engaged to my grandfather was?"
"My grandaunt."
She hadn’t expected her grandfather to have such a past with The Lowell Family, it’s something she’d never heard before, and could understand why the Prescott Family never brought it up.
So.
The Lowell Family’s years of targeting felt that the Prescott Family was untrustworthy, breaking off the engagement affected The Lowell Family’s reputation, so they couldn’t stand seeing the Prescott Family prosper.
As the successor of The Lowell Family, had he often been at odds with her father?
"Claire." Keane called her deeply.
Claire came back to herself, waiting for his next words.
"I’ve taken Prescott Family projects and have been suppressing the Prescott Family all these years, do you hate me?" Keane stared straight at her, not missing any change in her expression.
Claire countered: "Did knowing I’m a Prescott not make you stop?"
She hit the mark.
Keane’s eyes showed a faint ripple, quickly suppressed.
Claire further asked: "When did you find out that I’m from the Prescott Family?"
Keane replied: "After meeting your homeroom teacher."
Claire hesitated, mentioning it made her feel somewhat ashamed, but what surprised her more was that he had known about her identity so early.
Thinking back on things afterward, it seemed like many matters had changed in nature.
"Knowing I’m from the Prescott Family, why were you involved in my affairs? Or were you scheming something else, just intended to cause trouble for me, to embarrass me?"
She asked this with a furrowed brow.
Afraid of hearing him say yes.
Yet she hadn’t heard his response, which made her interpret it another way: he had implicitly agreed.
She clenched her fists tighter, feeling her throat swell, making it difficult to breathe, and not wanting to look at him.
As she lowered her eyes.
The man responded: "No."
"I merely saw you as a naive child back then."
Claire met his gaze again, continued to question: "Then when you took my money and disappeared completely, was it because I was from the Prescott Family and you were deliberately avoiding me?"
Keane immediately sensed something was off with her and called her over.
Claire remained where she was, not moving, unsure what she was stubbornly fighting against.
