CEO Ex-Husband, Don't Bother Me-Chapter 161 - 140: I Want to Strangle You (Part 2)
He received another call from the kidnapper. He answered it immediately, only to hear Joy’s trembling voice. "Daddy... Guanghua Cable... textile factory..."
He was so frantic he didn’t even register that Joy had called him "Daddy." He just relayed the information to Felix Draper, who quickly looked it up. The place was just to their right. Julian immediately slammed on the accelerator, wrenched the steering wheel, and charged toward the factory complex. Since they were going downhill and his speed was excessive, Felix Draper was nearly thrown from the car. Jolting up, down, left, and right, he protested, "Come on, Donovan, can you take it easy? Before we even rescue anyone, I’m going to get thrown out and killed!"
The moment Felix Draper finished speaking, Joy’s heart-rending sobs and shrill screams erupted from Julian Donovan’s earpiece. He gritted his teeth, floored the accelerator, and sent the car roaring forward. Felix was on the verge of throwing up.
’Thank God. He’d saved her and Joy in the nick of time!’
After giving Felix Draper his instructions, Julian Donovan rushed toward Joy, who lay in a pool of blood. The little girl had already passed out, her face deathly pale. A rusty piece of metal had pierced her thigh, causing a large puddle of blood to form. He was so heartbroken he nearly burst into tears. He stepped forward, moved her carefully, tore off a corner of her little dress to bandage the wound, and then rushed out with her in his arms.
Felix Draper stayed behind to clean up. He lunged at the masked man with the injured wrist. The fight was short; weakened by his injury, the man was soon knocked unconscious by Felix’s fists. Felix then rushed over to untie Naomi Shaw’s ropes. "Naomi, you’ve had a terrible scare!"
Naomi couldn’t care less about her own condition. She just pleaded with him, "Quick! We have to get to the hospital and see Joy!"
Felix Draper took the rope, tied up the man, and then called the police. This man had killed the three people outside; he would pay for it with his life.
After taking care of everything, he helped Naomi Shaw to her feet and they started for the door. But she’d been tied up for so long, and her hands and feet were raw from struggling against the ropes, so she flinched in pain the moment she tried to move. "Pardon me," Felix Draper said, then bent down, swept her into his arms, and ran outside.
The kidnappers’ car was still there. Felix Draper put her in it and sped toward the hospital. Because Joy’s condition was so critical, Julian Donovan had taken her to the nearest suburban hospital. By the time Naomi Shaw and Felix Draper arrived, a doctor had just finished examining Joy. He looked at them anxiously and said, "Are the child’s parents here? Which of you has type O blood? The child has lost too much blood and needs an urgent transfusion, but we ran out of type O blood a few days ago!"
A loud BUZZ seemed to go off in Julian Donovan’s already chaotic mind. Joy had type O blood. Naomi had type A. And he... he also had type O blood... ’What does that mean?’
He stared at her, stunned. Naomi Shaw saw the speculation in his eyes. She lowered her gaze slightly and said, "Joy... is your daughter..."
She could no longer prevent this father and daughter from finding each other. ’So be it,’ she thought. ’This must be fate.’
After saying those words, her vision went black, and she collapsed, completely unconscious.
Julian Donovan’s expression was a whirlwind of shock, joy, and anger. He stood frozen on the spot, his mind a complete blank, utterly unable to process the meaning of her last words.
It was Felix Draper who stepped forward to catch Naomi Shaw as she fell. Seeing Julian Donovan standing there dumbstruck, Felix said irritably, "Hey, Donovan! If you don’t get over here, I’m letting go!"
That snapped Julian Donovan back to his senses. He rushed over, took her from Felix, and began shaking her slender frame. "Naomi Shaw, wake up!" he roared through gritted teeth. "What the hell is going on?!"
’How could she just drop a bomb like that on him—something that threw his entire world into chaos—and then pass out? Dammit!’
’She had said before that Joy was Sean Donovan’s daughter, but he chose to believe what she’d just told him now.’
’Joy... Joy was his daughter? That tiny, precious, adorable, beautiful, well-behaved little girl, that little porcelain doll... was his daughter?’
Recalling the words she’d spoken right before collapsing, his heart began to tremble uncontrollably. A torrent of emotions overflowed in his chest, surging up until his eyes began to sting.
’Was Heaven being too kind to him? He had desperately wanted a daughter with her, to have both a son and a daughter... and now it had actually come true!’
He held her, gazing down at her pale, exhausted face. He lowered his head to kiss her, and then, just like that, buried his face in the crook of her neck... and began to sob softly.
He had always hated the unfairness of fate. Never before had he been so grateful for its kindness—grateful that it had given him such a wonderful, gentle woman, a smart and sensible son, and a lovely, beautiful daughter.
’He felt that even if he were to die at this very moment, his life would be complete, with no regrets.’
"Holy crap, Donovan, are you actually crying?"
Felix Draper’s shout completely ruined the mood. But you couldn’t really blame him for it; the shock of seeing Julian Donovan shed a tear was just too immense. For men like them, the mantra was to bleed before you weep.
"Piss off!"
Julian Donovan looked up, his eyes bloodshot, and roared at him without a shred of courtesy, completely forgetting that Felix had just helped him with the rescue.
Seeing his bloodshot eyes, Felix Draper froze in surprise. He instantly lost any desire to tease him and said seriously, "The priority right now is to go save Joy. You can question Naomi later!"
’Just what kind of emotion could make the perpetually cold and aloof Julian Donovan lose control like this?’ Felix wondered. ’Perhaps it’s a feeling he would only truly understand if he, too, one day discovered he had a daughter.’
Felix Draper’s words brought Julian Donovan back to his senses. He handed Naomi Shaw over to Felix and then hurried off after the doctor. Felix, in turn, took Naomi to another room and had a doctor examine her. As it turned out, Naomi’s injuries were only to her hands and feet; she had fainted from the extreme and prolonged mental stress.
Because direct blood transfusions between immediate relatives carry certain risks, the hospital first drew Julian Donovan’s blood to be irradiated. The blood products were treated with gamma rays to destroy the lymphocytes, thereby preventing transfusion-associated graft-versus-host disease.
Meanwhile, Julian Donovan burst into Joy’s operating room. The doctor had already cleaned the wound on her leg and was about to begin suturing. The five-centimeter gash on the outside of her tender thigh was a horrifying sight.
He strode over and shoved the doctor aside. "Move! I’ll do it myself!"
