CEO Ex-Husband, Don't Bother Me-Chapter 162 - 141: He Loves Her So Much, How Could He Bear to Kill Her?
Surgery was his specialty, and his suturing technique was second to none. He was determined to suture his Little Princess’s wound himself, to do the best possible job and minimize any potential scarring. Even though he felt dizzy from having just given blood, he would push through. He simply couldn’t trust anyone else’s skills!
The doctor was quite frustrated. "Hey, what are you doing? Do you even know how to suture?"
Julian Donovan shot him a fierce glare, and the doctor instantly fell silent. When he later saw how proficiently Julian Donovan handled the instruments, he didn’t say another word. As Julian Donovan sutured, his heart ached and trembled. He wished he could personally slaughter the scum who had hurt Joy so terribly.
Once he had meticulously sutured Joy’s wound, the processed blood was brought in. After the transfusion was started and he watched her get wheeled out of the operating room and into her hospital room, Julian Donovan finally let out a long sigh of relief and wearily walked outside.
Felix Draper was waiting outside. When he saw Julian come out, he updated him on the latest developments. "The masked man committed suicide before the police arrived. The other three were already dead..."
"Have our people keep investigating!"
An icy, murderous intent glinted in Julian Donovan’s eyes.
’The masked man who wanted them dead couldn’t be one of Sean Donovan’s people. He loves her so much; how could he possibly bring himself to kill her? Then... whose man could it be?’
His eyes narrowed abruptly. ’It had better not be who I think it is. Otherwise, they shouldn’t blame me for being ruthless!’
After discussing the matter, Felix Draper rushed back to the city that night. Julian stayed behind to be with the mother and daughter. He sat for a while on a bench outside to regain some strength, then went directly to Joy’s hospital room.
The tiny girl was sleeping deeply. Her clothes were filthy, and her chubby cheeks had lost their usual rosy glow, now pale and smudged with dirt. He walked over, instinctively bending down to kiss her grimy little face, not caring about the dirt at all. It felt as if he could never kiss her enough.
He cradled her small face, wanting to kiss her again but not daring to apply too much pressure, as if the little girl were so fragile she might shatter at his touch. This thrilling and uncontrollable emotion was not something Dylan had ever brought him. ’With Dylan, I’ve always known he was mine, so while I dote on him, my love is calm. But with Joy, there’s the overwhelming joy of finding something I thought was lost.’
’Now I finally understand. I understand why I never felt any strong revulsion or hatred for Joy, even when I thought she was Sean Donovan’s daughter. Instead, every time I saw her sweet, well-behaved face, I cherished her from the bottom of my heart. It was because she’s my daughter. We share a blood tie that’s thicker than water.’
He kissed the little one for a long while before finally going to the bathroom to wet a towel. He returned and began to gently wipe her clean, starting with her smooth little forehead, then her little nose, her little chin, and her chubby cheeks. ’How is it that every part of her I clean looks so much like me? How did I never notice before?’
’I was so stupid. I let one drunken comment from her scare me out of investigating further. If I had found out the truth sooner, if I had taken her and her mother under my wing to protect them, would this have happened today?’
At that moment, his heart was filled with a profound sense of guilt.
After wiping the little one’s hands, feet, and face clean, he gave her another kiss on her cheek. Then he stood up and went to find Naomi Shaw. ’When she wakes up,’ he resolved, ’I’m going to demand an answer. Why did you have to deceive me so cruelly!’
’Because of her, every time I saw Joy before, I was consumed with envy. I wanted a daughter just like her so badly. That longing was more than words can describe—it was a heart-wrenching, soul-crushing agony.’
Naomi Shaw, for her part, hadn’t sustained any major external injuries. Aside from some scrapes on her hands and feet, which the doctor had already treated, she was fine. She woke up after resting for a short while. Her first instinct upon opening her eyes was to find out how Joy was doing, but just as she tried to sit up, she saw someone push the door open and walk in.
Suddenly, she felt she couldn’t face him, so she quickly shut her eyes again, pretending she had never woken up. ’Knowing his temper,’ she thought, ’he’ll probably want to strangle me for deceiving him like this, won’t he? Ugh, things between us were already a mess. I never thought something like this would happen. Now it’s completely tangled, impossible to sort out.’
But Julian Donovan’s eyes were sharp. He’d seen her hastily shut her eyes the moment he entered, and the anger in his heart flared even hotter. He walked over to her bed and stood there, looking down at her. Suppressing his fury, he spoke through gritted teeth, "Is it because you feel so guilty for making such a fool of me that you don’t dare wake up and face me? Is that it!"
