Clinging to Devoted Fiancé, Heiress Slays the World!-Chapter 780: A Bad Premonition Engulfs Her
The two of them got into the car, and Gu Moqian fastened Ji Wei’s seatbelt for her while explaining, "You should know which family William comes from. The reason I invited him is because I want to use his connections to investigate some matters."
"Does it have to do with the six months you spent in Britain?"
Gu Moqian answered casually, "Yes."
The Gu Family’s influence in Britain was far inferior to the Charles family. Many things Gu Moqian wanted to do were out of his reach. If he could leverage William’s family, the matters would be far easier to handle.
Ultimately, he had come here for nothing more than a transaction with William.
Just what had happened during those six months?
Ji Wei swallowed her words before speaking. If it were easy for him to talk about it, Gu Moqian would have told her everything without reserve by now. 𝗳𝐫𝚎𝗲𝚠𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝘃𝚎𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝗺
She didn’t want to force him to say it. Perhaps when the time was right, he would lay everything bare.
...
Three days later.
Today was Ji Wei’s 22nd birthday.
The banquet was set at a renowned Six-star Hotel under the Gu Group’s name. In the evening, Ji Wei began preparing herself.
Gu Moqian had been working all day. He had already arranged for a driver to take Ji Wei directly to the hotel.
On the bed, a delicate gift box held a gown Gu Moqian had meticulously selected for her. Ji Wei took it out and put it on, glancing at herself in the mirror.
Gu Moqian was thoroughly familiar with her body measurements, so naturally, the dress fit perfectly. Ji Wei looked at the light blue floor-length gown in the mirror and pressed her lips into a smile.
Before leaving, she went to the bathroom. While washing her hands, she took off her diamond ring and placed it on the sink’s edge. However, when she reached out to retrieve it, she suddenly found it missing.
The sizable pink diamond should have been conspicuous, yet after searching all around the sink, she still couldn’t find the ring.
This was her wedding ring with Gu Moqian—it couldn’t possibly go missing!
Thinking the ring might have rolled underneath the sink, Ji Wei leaned against the edge, bending down to check. As her gaze shifted, her hand moved accordingly.
Suddenly, her hand seemed to touch something.
Ji Wei straightened up abruptly and saw a hidden compartment pop out from beneath the sink. Inside were syringes and several boxes of medication.
She stared at these items in shock, her mind unable to process what was happening.
Despite having lived at Shanshui Manor for quite some time, Ji Wei had never known there was a secret compartment under the sink.
She froze for several seconds before reaching out to pick up the top box of partially opened medicine from the hidden compartment.
Ji Wei turned the box over to look at the medication precautions. It clearly stated that the drug was a powerful sedative, with a certain probability of causing hallucinations.
The instructions also warned that the drug should not be used too frequently, or unforeseen consequences could occur, such as persistent illusions, mental delusions, and other symptoms.
As Ji Wei read the instructions, her heart sank sharply, encased in a growing sense of dread.
This was the master bedroom she shared with Gu Moqian. If these medications weren’t hers, then they must be... Gu Moqian’s.
She couldn’t understand. Gu Moqian appeared to be physically healthy—why would he be injecting drugs with such pronounced side effects?
Before Ji Wei could think it through, a knock sounded at the door.
"Madam, the driver is already waiting for you downstairs." It was Aunt Zhu’s voice.
Ji Wei paused for a moment before replying, "I’ll be out right away!"
Pressed for time, she had no choice but to temporarily abandon her thoughts, return the medication to the hidden compartment, and restore everything to its original state.
When she bent down again to look for the ring, she quickly spotted it wedged into a gap between the floor tiles. She retrieved it, put it back on, then opened the bathroom door and walked out.
