Clumsy Beast, Keep Your Paws Off-Chapter 355: Death Trap!
Xuan Long opened his mouth again.
"There’s more," he said.
Everyone looked at him immediately.
"That young birdman," Xuan Long continued calmly, "is the biological son of the Bird Tribe’s leader...the tribe closest to our mountain."
Hu Yan’s expression changed instantly.
"...Is it the same Bird Tribe we took shelter with last year?" he asked.
Xuan Long frowned slightly, clearly unsure. He shook his head. "I’m not certain."
Hu Yan paused, then explained, "That tribe lives on the high mountain directly facing ours."
Xuan Long froze for a second. Then he nodded.
Su Qinglan nodded as well. "It’s them."
Hu Yan’s fingers tightened around his spoon.
Crack.
The wooden spoon nearly snapped in half.
Xuan Long continued, his voice growing colder. "That young man secretly followed us before. Together with his father, they were planning the beast tide to attack our tribe."
Everyone sucked in a breath.
"And they weren’t acting alone," Xuan Long added, frowning.
Rong Ye immediately asked, "Then who’s helping them?"
Xuan Long let out a short, cold laugh.
"Who else?" he said. "The old witch doctor."
The name alone made the air turn heavy.
"That man has already gone to the Bird Tribe," Xuan Long continued. "He fed them lies...told them we are the protectors of the Black Temple and that we’re secretly hoarding resources." 𝓯𝙧𝙚𝒆𝙬𝙚𝒃𝙣𝙤𝒗𝓮𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢
"He painted us as villains," Xuan Long said slowly, "and himself as the righteous one."
That was why...
"The Bird Tribe believed him," Xuan Long said. "They think destroying us is justified."
"Because he wants to swallow our entire tribe," he added flatly.
Now because we have more food, power, and resources than them.
Then Xuan Long turned his gaze toward Su Qinglan.
"And not just our food," he said. "But our females as well."
Su Qinglan stiffened.
Xuan Long looked directly at her. "That young birdman specifically wanted you."
Silence exploded.
Su Qinglan immediately choked on her soup.
"What?!"
She coughed hard, her face turning red.
"That teenager?" she said incredulously. "Is he dreaming?"
She still remembered that boy...pale-faced, terrified, barely daring to breathe when questioned.
Where did he even get the confidence to think like that?
She really wanted to crack his head open and see what was inside.
Xuan Long glanced at her and smiled faintly, clearly amused by her reaction.
At the same time, his eyes darkened.
That young man...
In his eyes, he was nothing more than an ant. Something he could crush with his thumb.
The other beast husbands were no longer calm.
Their expressions turned murderous.
The son of a Bird Tribe leader wanting to take their female?
If that birdman dared step foot here again, they wouldn’t just kill him... They would scatter his bones across the forest.
Su Qinglan finally calmed herself down from the absurd shock of the situation.
She took a slow breath, then lifted her head to look at Xuan Long.
"There’s something I don’t understand," she said seriously. "How are they planning to direct the beast tide toward only us?"
Everyone looked at her.
"The distance between our tribe and the Bird Tribe isn’t that far," Su Qinglan continued. "If a beast tide this large breaks out, it shouldn’t be possible for it to avoid them completely. Wouldn’t they also suffer losses?"
The question hung heavily in the air.
Xuan Long’s eyes shone faintly with pride.
As expected of my female.
She had grasped the key point immediately.
The others were clearly thinking the same thing now and turned their gazes toward Xuan Long, waiting for the answer.
"You’re right," Xuan Long said calmly. "Under normal circumstances, they wouldn’t be able to avoid it."
"But this isn’t a normal beast tide."
Everyone’s expressions tightened.
"They’ve already planned everything," Xuan Long continued. "Only our mountain will be attacked."
"Because the thing attracting the evil ferocious beasts... is buried behind our mountain."
A chill ran through the treehouse.
"The smell originates from our mountain," Xuan Long said slowly. "A scent that only evil ferocious beasts can detect."
Su Qinglan’s eyes widened.
"...Wait," she said sharply. "You don’t mean..."
"Their young ones," Xuan Long said.
Su Qinglan gasped. "Their cubs? You mean the cubs of the evil ferocious beasts are here?"
Xuan Long closed his eyes briefly. Then he nodded.
"Yes."
Silence exploded.
"It seems they kidnapped many young cubs of evil ferocious beasts," Xuan Long said. "Killed them... and buried them behind our mountain."
Hu Yan slammed his hand down.
"Damn it!" he cursed. "How could they even think of something like this?!"
"Evil ferocious beasts protect their young with their lives," Hu Yan continued angrily. "They would chase enemies to the ends of the world for them!"
"And now," he said coldly, "those people killed their cubs and buried the bodies behind our mountain."
"This isn’t just an attack," Hu Yan said grimly. "This is a death trap."
Han Jie nodded heavily.
"Yes. A complete death trap."
"We’ll be surrounded from every direction," he continued. "The Bird Tribe made sure of it."
"They won’t suffer losses," Han Jue added. "Their mountain is a high, jagged peak, and it is rocky and difficult to climb."
"Our mountain," he said, "is a slope. Easy to travel. Easy to swarm."
Rong Ye nodded slowly.
"He’s right. That means they’ve left us no escape route."
Xuan Long nodded once.
"Yes."
But Su Qinglan wasn’t finished.
She frowned slightly and raised another question.
"If the cubs of the evil ferocious beasts were buried behind our mountain," she said, "why hasn’t anyone sensed it?"
"All of you are beastmen," she continued. "Yet not a single one noticed anything. How is that possible?"
Xuan Long answered immediately.
"Because of the witch doctor."
Everyone’s hearts sank.
"He created something that completely hides the scent from beastmen," Xuan Long said calmly. "No beastman can detect it."
"But for evil ferocious beasts," his voice turned colder, "the scent is everywhere."
"This place," he continued, "is soaked with the blood and remains of their cubs."
"It has already become a grave for the young ones of the evil ferocious beasts."
Xuan Long lifted his eyes.
"And soon," he said plainly, without hesitation,
"It will become the grave of our tribe."
Hu Yan flinched.
Han Jue stiffened.
Su Qinglan’s fists clenched.
The words were cruel. But no one argued. Because they all knew... What Xuan Long said was harsh.
And it was also the truth.
The treehouse fell into dead silence.
Outside, the wind howled softly against the mountain.
And somewhere beyond it, the evil ferocious beasts had already gone crazy with the grief of their cubs disappearance.
