Chapter 71: Chapter 71

Layla totally hit the floor, her body shaking like crazy. She felt this hot wave burning deep inside, spreading all over her body like an unstoppable fire. She gritted her teeth, trying to hold back the pain shaking her to the core. But yo, that pain slowly turned into this next-level power she never felt before.

"What in the world is this...?" Layla muttered, her voice trembling. She slowly got up, her hands clenched with this new strength making her muscles feel more solid and strong. When she reflexively punched the wall next to her, the whole dang car vibrated.

Valencia smirked satisfactorily, watching Layla like a scientist observing her successful experiment. "That’s the gift of my blood. Your body has absorbed its power, giving you physical abilities far beyond regular humans."

Layla glared at Valencia. "What did you do to me?! I didn’t ask for this!"

Valencia shrugged casually. "You chose to drink my blood. This is the consequence. Don’t worry, it only gives you an edge you’ll need later on."

On the flip side, Karl experienced something different. His body felt hot like Layla’s, but this feeling centered in his mind, crushing like some energy wave trying to burst out. Unconsciously, he reached out his hand, and a glass on the table slowly levitated in the air before falling back down.

Karl looked at it in bewilderment, then glanced at his hand and read the notification from the system.

Karl looked at the virtual screen in front of him that only he could see, realizing that something within him had changed again.

"I... can move objects," he muttered. He reached out his hand again, trying to focus, and this time a chair shifted a few meters from its original position.

Layla, unaware of the system within Karl, just stared at him in astonishment. "You can... move objects with your mind?"

Karl nodded slowly, then turned to Valencia with a sharp gaze. "You knew this was going to happen, didn’t you?"

Valencia chuckled, her eyes sparkling with excitement. "Of course. It’s part of my blood. Your body is more compatible with the mental aspect than the physical, unlike Layla. You’re getting telekinesis, while she gets extraordinary physical strength. You both become the perfect weapons."

Layla exhaled heavily, trying to digest the immense changes happening within her. Karl, though calmer, still looked puzzled by his new power. Valencia looked at both of them with pride, as if she was a coach who just found talented students.

"You need to learn to control these new powers," Valencia finally said, stepping forward confidently. "And the best way to do it is by testing them out in the open. Come with me."

Layla raised an eyebrow. "Where to? You’re not thinking we’ll go out and play superhero, right?"

Valencia smirked. "No, not like that. But you need to understand your limits. The world out there won’t wait until you’re ready. If you want to survive—and win—training must start now."

Karl and Layla exchanged glances. Despite their doubts, they knew what Valencia said was true. They had to master these powers before the powers mastered them.

In the Open Field

Valencia led them to a vast field on the edge of the forest, far from the city bustle. The air around them was crisp, but tension hung between the three of them.

"Alright," Valencia said, standing in the middle of the field. "Let’s start with something simple. Layla, use your power to destroy that big rock over there." She pointed to a large rock near a tree.

Layla hesitated, then turned to Valencia. "What if I can’t control it? What if I destroy something more than that?"

"That’s why we’re here," Valencia replied calmly. "If you don’t try, you won’t know your limits."

Reluctantly, Layla stepped forward. She clenched her fists, gathering courage. She felt that power pulsing within her body, ready to be unleashed. With a shout, she slammed the rock with all her might. The rock exploded into pieces, dust and debris flying everywhere.

Layla stood there, stunned, staring at her still-clenched hand. "I... I can actually do it," she mumbled.

Valencia clapped slowly. "Good. Now you know your real power. But that’s just the beginning. You have to learn to control it more precisely."

Karl stepped forward, his face serious. "And me?"

Valencia raised an eyebrow. "You? Try to lift that tree." She pointed to a small tree near them.

Karl nodded, taking a deep breath. He reached out his hand, trying to sense the energy he used before. The tree started to tremble, its roots shifting, then slowly the tree lifted a few centimeters off the ground.

However, Karl soon ran out of energy, and the tree fell back down. "This... is harder than I thought," he said, out of breath.

"Of course," Valencia replied, her eyes narrowing sharply. "Mental power requires focus and calmness. The stronger your emotions, the greater your potential for failure. That’s your first lesson."

Layla approached, looking at Karl. "I don’t know how you did it, but that was amazing."

"Not amazing enough yet," Karl muttered, looking at the tree again with newfound determination. "But I’ll keep trying."

---

Valencia watched them with a look of confidence. "This training is just the beginning. Out there, the world doesn’t care if you’re ready or not. Your new powers are enough to fight against Homo Obscura."

Layla and Karl looked at each other again, this time with a different kind of determination. They knew there was no turning back. With these new powers, they stepped into a more dangerous world, and the only choice was to move forward and become more ruthless, even though their original goal was just to make a sex tape to ruin Angeline’s life.

Valencia led them back to the Campervan.

At the Campervan

That night, they returned to the campervan, now their small headquarters. The night air felt chilly, contrasting with the warmth inside the campervan. Layla sat in the back seat, still trying to comprehend her newfound power, while Karl busied himself cleaning the rock debris off his jacket. Valencia stood near the door, looking at them with a sharp gaze.

"You both have developed quickly," she said, taking a glass of red wine from the small table in the campervan. "But there’s one thing we need to discuss before this night ends."

Layla raised an eyebrow. "What now? Isn’t training enough for today?"

Valencia rolled her eyes. "This isn’t about training. It’s about... comfort." Her eyes shifted to Karl, who immediately felt uncomfortable with the way Valencia was looking at him.

"What do you mean?" Karl asked, wary.
