Chapter 70: Chapter 70

Karl was shook, his eyes glued to the monitor screen. The panicked and fearful faces of his family filled the screen, their voices trembling yet full of hope.

"Karl, if you’re seeing this... please, stop. Surrender yourself. Whatever happens, we’ll find a way to fix it together," his mom’s voice sounded hoarse, almost teary.

"Your dad is sick because of all this. Your sister can’t stop crying," his mom continued. "You’re not alone, Karl. Please, come back."

Karl stood still, his jaw clenched as the video kept playing. His mom’s voice pierced his heart like a sharp knife, but his expression remained icy. Valencia and Layla watched attentively, unsure how to respond to such a personal yet terrifying moment.

"Dad is sick," Karl murmured softly to himself. His hands clenched at his sides, his books turned white.

Layla cautiously approached, touching Karl’s arm. "This must be the work of some daring influencers!"

As Layla said that, the camera that previously focused on Karl’s family now recorded the entire people in the room, clearly showing Angeline there.

Layla also got emotional after seeing Angeline.

Layla clenched her fists, her emotions peaked as she saw Angeline’s face on the screen. "She’s really crossing the line!" her voice trembled. "Using your family like this to control you? She’s even crueler than I ever imagined."

Karl stared at the screen coldly, although there was a hint of emotion in his eyes. "She knows how to hit my weakest point," he muttered. "But I won’t let her win."

Valencia leaned back in her chair, her eyes sharp studying the details of the video. "She’s playing a very dangerous game. But it also gives us an advantage," she said with a mysterious tone. frёeweɓηovel.coɱ

Valencia laughed, "Hahahha.... This is more entertaining than I expected, I’ll watch your life drama. I’ll help you guys."

Karl and Layla felt relieved but there was something bothering Karl. Why didn’t the Common Sense Hijack System give a notification that the quest was completed?

Karl, Layla, and Valencia stood in the room now filled with tension. The video of Karl’s family they had just watched left difficult-to-erase emotional imprints, especially on Karl. However, Valencia seemed more relaxed than before, watching the chaos around them with a thin smile.

"I have a condition you must fulfill if you want my full help," Valencia suddenly said, breaking the silence. Her voice low but firm, catching Karl and Layla’s attention. She leaned on the table, folding her hands confidently.

Karl looked at her sharply. "What do you mean?"

Valencia raised an eyebrow. "I did say I’d help you, but it’s not free!"

Layla rolled her eyes, her face filled with frustration. "Not free? This is not the time to play games, Valencia. We’re talking about Karl’s family and their lives."

"Exactly," Valencia retorted with a cunning tone. "And that’s why you need my help. Trust me, without me, you won’t be able to face people like Angeline - and especially the big supporters behind her."

Karl sighed, trying to calm his rising emotions. "What do you want, Valencia? Just say it."

Valencia approached, standing just a few steps away from them. She extended her hand, her slender fingers and sharp nails gleaming under the light. "I want you to make an oath. A blood oath, to prove that you will keep your promise to me - whatever it may be."

Layla was taken aback, her eyebrows furrowed. "Blood oath? Are you kidding?"

Valencia smiled coldly, her eyes sparkled with disturbing joy. "Oh, I’m dead serious. Drinking my blood is a way to bind us. After you do it, I will tell you everything I know, and I will help you until the end. But if you break this agreement..." Valencia stopped, letting the implied threat hang in the air.

Karl shook his head slowly, clearly disturbed by the idea. "This makes no sense. Why should we do this? What’s the point?"

Valencia brought her face close to Karl’s, her voice becoming a mysterious whisper. "Karl, you know I’m different. This isn’t just an empty ritual. If you drink my blood, our bond will transcend mere words. I’ll know if you lie, betray, or even try to manipulate me. And I’ll ensure a fitting punishment for any violation."

Layla looked at Karl, seeking an answer. "This is insane. We don’t know what she really wants from this."

Karl took a deep breath, then finally looked at Valencia coldly. "Fine. If this is what you want, let’s do it. But remember, if you betray us after this, no blood will save you."

Valencia smiled satisfactorily, like a predator who had just caught its prey. "Perfect. Now, let’s begin."

She took a small knife from her jacket pocket, cutting her palm quickly. Fresh blood flowed from her wound, and she ordered them with a low and enticing voice, "Drink, and be my allies."

Layla looked hesitant, but Karl nodded, taking Valencia’s hand. He looked at her for a moment, then bowed his head and touched the blood with his lips, taking a sip. Layla followed suit, although her face showed deep disgust at what she had just done.

Layla suddenly collapsed and groaned, feeling a sudden burst of searing heat inside.

Karl felt the same, accompanied by a system notification.

Karl tried to read the details, but the pain coursing through his body made his vision blurry. He fell to his knees, breathing heavily, trying to understand what had just happened. Meanwhile, Layla lay on the floor, writhing, with muffled groans escaping her mouth.

Valencia stood leisurely, looking at both of them with a victorious gaze. "Oh, I forgot to mention the side effects," she said casually, as if talking about something trivial.

Karl glared at her sharply, although his face still held a hint of pain. "What... have you done to us?"

Valencia smirked faintly. "You’ve just drunk the blood of Homo Noctis. Regular humans would get ’something’ just by drinking my blood, and I want to know what you’ll get! And now your bodies are processing the emergence of ’something’!"

Layla gritted her teeth, managing to sit up with difficulty. Her eyes blazed with anger as she looked at Valencia. "What do you mean? Are you trying to kill us with this?"

Valencia chuckled, folding her hands. "Of course not. I need you alive. This just ensures you’re worthy enough for what we’ll face ahead. This ritual also binds me to you. Now, not only will I be able to sense your intentions if you ever betray, you’ll also be able to sense mine if I have the intention to betray. It’s quite fascinating, isn’t it?"

Karl finally stood up unsteadily. The pain in his body began to subside, replaced by a strange yet powerful new energy. His system lit up with an additional notification:
