Chapter 92: Chapter 92

Karl stood frozen, staring at his father, who was now awake, his body appearing younger and brimming with energy. The strange glow surrounding David slowly faded, leaving the room filled with an oppressive atmosphere. Medical instruments lay scattered on the floor, and the monitors displayed numbers incomprehensible to modern technology.

David stepped forward, each movement light yet powerful. His gaze swept the room, pausing briefly on Karl’s pale and tense face. Something was different about him. The usual calm aura he radiated was now replaced by something more intense, almost terrifying.

"Why has this power returned?" David muttered, his deep voice filled with a mix of confusion and a faint edge of menace.

"F...Father?" Karl finally spoke, his body trembling as he took a step back. "What’s happening? I just... I was just trying to save you."

David fixed his sharp gaze on his son, but a small smile played at the corners of his lips. He saw the fear reflected in Karl’s eyes and softened his stance. He let out a long sigh, raising his hand and staring at his glowing palm before it returned to normal.

"You’ve awakened me, Karl. But you’ve also awakened something that should have stayed buried," he said, his tone more melancholic than threatening.

Karl tried to steady himself, but his mind was a whirlwind of questions. "Father, I... the system...," Karl struggled to explain. "I mean, I have something, and it said there’s cosmic energy in your body. That it’s been dormant for years. What... what’s really happening to you?"

Before David could answer, hurried footsteps echoed in the corridor. The door burst open, and Vincent appeared, his face full of shock.

"Karl! What have you done? The monitoring equipment showed energy activity that... My God, this can’t be!" Vincent froze when his eyes met David, who now stood tall, emanating an indescribable aura.

David turned toward Vincent, raising an eyebrow as if evaluating the man who had just entered. "And who is this?" he asked, his tone casual yet authoritative.

"I... I’m Vincent. Director of Glowsphere," Vincent stammered. "But... how is this possible? You were supposed to be in a coma. No one could wake someone in your condition—"

David raised his hand, cutting Vincent off. "I don’t have time to answer all your questions right now."

He turned back to Karl. "The cosmic energy you’ve awakened is part of a past I left behind long ago. You want to know what happened, don’t you? Fine. Listen carefully."

Karl swallowed hard, but something more pressing overtook his curiosity. "Father, Mother and my sister were kidnapped by this country, Neosia."

David looked confused, not understanding what was happening. "Then why am I here? I thought I was dead." He chuckled.

"W-well, you almost died because of me," Karl admitted, lowering his head.

Vincent, who had been silent, began to laugh. "Wow... so Dad and son both have powers, huh? You’ll both be very useful to Neosia." Vincent’s tone carried a sinister intent.

Karl raised an eyebrow at Vincent, sensing something off. Vincent’s laughter was too mocking, and his gaze hinted at something dangerous. David, now standing with his body full of energy, didn’t seem particularly surprised by the veiled threat. Tilting his head slightly, he calmly studied Vincent.

"Useful to Neosia?" David repeated, his voice low and deep. "You speak as if we’re tools you can use at will."

Vincent didn’t back down. Instead, he stepped closer, though the lingering energy around David made him slightly uneasy. "I don’t need to explain in detail. With power like this, Neosia will make sure you contribute greatly—willingly or not. Besides," he glanced sharply at Karl, "don’t you care about the two women who are your wife and child, just like your son does?"

Karl’s heart raced. "You bastard!"

Vincent smirked. "It’s pointless to resist. Neosia is filled with Homo Obscura like me. You won’t stand a chance against us all, and... I suggest you don’t try."

David chuckled, then burst into laughter. "Do you even know who you’re talking to, you foolish creature?" He grinned menacingly.

Karl looked at his father, seeing someone entirely different. To him, his Dadhad always been a corporate drone with a perpetual smile.

"You... you said Homo Obscura? Tsk... creatures like you are always causing trouble," David said, holding his face. "You, or perhaps your friends, might remember this face." He grinned wider.

"ORIGIN!" David declared as his palm glowed, and his face transformed. He glanced at Karl. "I’ll explain later."

Vincent trembled. "Y-you? That monster?"

David smirked coldly at the fear in Vincent’s voice. "Monster, you say?" He stepped closer, his footsteps thunderous in Vincent’s ears. "You haven’t seen what a real monster is, Vincent. But I can show you."

Vincent tried to back away, but his body felt glued to the spot. Before he could utter another word, David raised his hand. A blinding light emerged from his palm, not emitting heat but an overwhelming pressure that engulfed Vincent’s body.

Karl stood frozen, both confused and horrified at what his Dadwas doing. He watched as Vincent’s body began trembling violently, his eyes wide as if something was pulling the essence out of him.

"Father, wait! What are you doing to him?" Karl tried to approach, but the energy surrounding David made it difficult to move.

David glanced at Karl, his eyes now glowing like blue flames. "He’s a Homo Obscura, Karl. Beings like him are part of a greater problem I once knew. You can’t just let them live freely."

Karl didn’t understand but couldn’t look away from what was happening. Vincent’s body began to distort—slowly but surely. His face twisted and bent as if melting wax, his hands shrank, and his form reduced to something unrecognizable.

"Stop! Please! I’ll help you! Don’t... DON’T!" Vincent screamed, his voice growing fainter and distorted. But David didn’t stop.

Vincent’s body shrank further until it became a small orb with a face. The orb floated in the air, spinning between David’s glowing fingers.

David stared at the orb coldly. "Now you’ll be useful, Vincent. You’ll guide us to our family."

Karl was speechless. "Father... What did you just do? You... turned him into a ball?"

David glanced at him briefly, his expression devoid of remorse. "Just a little shape manipulation."

Karl still couldn’t believe what he was seeing. "But... how can you even do this? What are you, Father? And why did he call you a monster?"

David approached Karl, carrying the orb that floated beside him. He placed a hand on Karl’s shoulder. "I’ll explain everything later, Karl. But for now, we must prepare. Before your mother starts losing her mind."

"Huh?" Karl frowned.

"Hahaha..." David laughed. "Karl, you don’t really know her. Or rather, your mother and I have hidden it well. Your mother and I are much more than just ordinary people."

"More than ordinary people?" Karl finally spoke, his tone full of doubt. "What do you mean, Father? What are you hiding from me?"

David gave a faint smile, but it offered no comfort. "Karl, this world is far more complex than you imagine. Your mother and I went through some very dark times when... I was like a monster who knew no mercy."

Karl swallowed hard, sensing something monumental was about to be revealed. "What are you talking about, Father? Monster? And what does Neosia have to do with all this?"

David slowly walked to the center of the room, the cosmic energy surrounding him beginning to dissipate, making the atmosphere slightly more comfortable. He stared at the orb in his hand, then spoke, almost as if to himself. "Neosia... They were just a small country back then. I didn’t think they’d still exist now."

"Neosia is the light of the world!" Vincent, now reduced to a floating orb, snarled. "Restore me to my original form!"

David merely laughed and tightened his grip on the orb. "Listen up, scumbag!" David’s gaze turned icy as he glared at Vincent. "Take me to where my wife and child are, or you’ll be shattered into pieces."

Vincent led them to a building next to the hospital.

Karl and David walked down a long corridor bathed in dim light. Ahead of them, the small orb containing Vincent floated anxiously, occasionally spinning as if trying to resist, but David only had to cast a sharp glance to make it stop. Karl, though brimming with questions, chose not to interrupt their journey.

"There," Vincent said in a hoarse voice, the orb trembling in the air as it pointed toward a large door at the end of the corridor. "The main building... They’re in there."

David stopped, eyeing the tall, heavy door with its striking modern design. A large building with luxurious architecture stretched out before them. The door was made of gleaming metallic material that seemed unusual, as though it was protecting something highly valuable.

"Good," David muttered, then turned to Karl. "Stay alert. We don’t know what’s waiting inside."

Karl nodded, though his heart was pounding. He tried to steady himself as he followed his father, who moved with unwavering confidence. The small orb containing Vincent floated closer, visibly nervous.

As the massive door opened, they were met with a vast room with a high, towering ceiling adorned with a magnificent crystal chandelier. A thick red carpet stretched along the floor, guiding their steps toward the center of the space. The room was filled with golden ornaments and glass surfaces reflecting soft light, giving the place a palace-like appearance.

"This building feels more like a palace than a headquarters," Karl murmured under his breath.

David gave a faint smile. "Classic tactic. Dazzle your enemy with luxury so they forget it’s a trap."

Karl swallowed hard, feeling a wave of unease. "Father, are you sure we can handle this?"

David patted Karl’s shoulder without saying a word, then moved further into the room.

However, before they could reach the center, the sound of heavy footsteps echoed from all directions. Suddenly, dozens of armed soldiers emerged from behind walls and hidden passages. Their weapons were aimed directly at David and Karl. Their futuristic helmets emitted a faint blue glow, giving them a cold and inhuman appearance.

Karl froze. "They... They were waiting for us," he whispered, his fists clenching tightly.

David remained calm. He stood still, scanning every corner of the room, quickly assessing the situation. "Good," he said softly, almost as if speaking to himself. "They want to play seriously."

One of the soldiers stepped forward, his movements heavy and deliberate. He held a small megaphone in his hand. "David and Karl," his voice boomed through the grand room. "You are surrounded. Surrender peacefully, or we will take more extreme measures."

Karl glanced at his father, full of confusion. "What do we do now?"

David grinned, his eyes once again glowing with a faint blue light. "Let’s see what they want first. Stay calm, Karl."

Before Karl could ask further, David raised both his hands slowly. "We’re unarmed," he said in a flat tone, though his expression suggested he was far from intimidated. "But I’m curious... Do you really think this small force is enough to capture us?"

The soldier with the megaphone hesitated for a moment but quickly regained his composure. "You are in no position to make threats."

David chuckled softly. "Oh, you haven’t seen anything yet."
