Chapter 109: Chapter 109: Courting Old Master Sinclair for the Sake of a Political Marriage

"If we put it that way, it does seem a bit troublesome." Paige Everett picked up her coffee cup and took a tiny sip. "But there are other ways."

"You have ideas for this kind of stuff?" Mrs. Huxley looked at her, incredulous, then moved closer, holding her hand. "Quick, tell me, what good ideas do you have."

Paige gave a mysterious smile to Mrs. Huxley. "You just said it yourself; usually, people can’t sway Maxim Sinclair, but there’s one exception. If that person speaks up, Maxim will definitely comply without a second thought."

Mrs. Huxley couldn’t guess who she meant. "Even the parents can’t do it; who else can?"

"How could you forget such an important detail?" Paige frowned and gave her a light slap. "Don’t forget, Maxim grew up around Old Master Sinclair; he’s the perfect successor personally taught by him."

"Oh right, how could I have forgotten that?" Mrs. Huxley finally realized. "We can use that approach."

Just as they were talking, Tina Huxley came down from upstairs after calming her emotions.

Seeing her come down, Mrs. Huxley got up and pulled her to sit between her and Paige. "Your aunt means that Aunt Sinclair’s line won’t work, but we can go through Old Master Sinclair."

Upon hearing this, Tina’s eyes lit up. She grabbed Mrs. Huxley’s wrist. "Sinclair Family Grandpa? I get it. What about my grandpa?"

"He said he went to play chess with friends," Mrs. Huxley replied casually, then immediately realized why Tina asked so. "You want Grandpa to go to the sanitarium and get close to Old Master Sinclair?"

Tina nodded intensely. "Yes, near the water, the tower gets the moon first."

South Hill Sanitarium.

By the artificial lake on the far east side of the sanitarium, Old Master Sinclair, the previous head of the Sinclair Family, was dozing off on a rocking chair under the tree.

By his feet lay two fishing rods and some miscellaneous fishing-related items.

"Hey, what a coincidence, Old Man Sinclair. Didn’t expect to run into you here!"

Upon hearing someone speaking to him, Old Master Sinclair opened his eyes, shielding the dazzling sunlight with one hand, and looked toward the voice.

Recognizing the person greeting him, Old Master Sinclair grinned. "Hughes, what brings you here too?"

Old Master Huxley patted his belly. "After celebrating a milestone birthday recently, I got carried away and forgot my diet. I’ve been having stomach troubles, and taking care of it at home is a hassle. The younger ones keep nagging, so I escaped here for some peace and quiet."

As he spoke, the nurse placed a chair beside Old Master Sinclair under Old Master Huxley’s direction.

Old Master Sinclair looked at him with disdain. "You’re too close; you’ll affect my fishing!"

"Oh, knock it off. We’ve known each other for decades; I know you haven’t caught a fish yet!"

Old Master Huxley retorted, then sat beside him, reaching for his own tea cup and taking a pleasurable sip.

"I must say, you’re quite the old fellow who knows how to enjoy," Old Master Huxley tightened the lid of his tea cup, turning to speak to Old Master Sinclair. "This place’s scenery is really nice and quiet, with no younger ones nagging around. It’s incredibly peaceful."

Old Master Sinclair squinted slightly, looking at him half-smiling, half-not. "Why do I feel like you’re here to brag to me?"

"What’s there to brag about? If you wanted, you have plenty of grandchildren willing to do this for you," Old Master Huxley said, spitting out some tea leaves.

The two old gentlemen sat by the lake, going back and forth with their banter.

They kept at it until the sun was high, nearing lunchtime.

Old Master Sinclair took a big sip of water from his tea cup, moistened his throat, and looked at Old Master Huxley with mild irritation. "Time to eat; I’m heading back. You stay here, and don’t complain about others; mind you, you’ve been quite talkative yourself, no peace for me today with you around."

Old Master Huxley chuckled and stood up as well.

"Why are you standing too?" Old Master Sinclair eyed him warily. "Just so you know, there’s no food or wine for you at my place. Find somewhere else to eat if you’re hungry."

"You really are stingy."

Old Master Huxley gestured for the nurse to gather his things, then walked alongside Old Master Sinclair, hands behind his back. "This path was built by the sanitarium, not by you. Why so domineering, not letting me walk?"

"Stop making stuff up; never said you couldn’t walk."

Spurred by Old Master Huxley’s deliberate teasing, the two bantered all the way back to the residential area.

They just stepped out into the corridor when they saw Tina Huxley approaching with large food boxes in both hands.

Upon seeing her, Old Master Huxley immediately put on a stern face. "Why are you here? Didn’t you say you’d let me have some peace and quiet?"

Tina innocently raised the food boxes in her hands. "I’m here to bring you food! I’m worried you might not like what’s here, so I made some stomach-soothing porridge and some gentle side dishes in flavors you’re used to. I made them myself."

"Enough, Hughes. This child Tina means well; don’t be ungrateful." Old Master Sinclair glanced at the items in Tina’s hands. "Such a considerate child."

"Hello, Grandpa Sinclair," Tina smiled sweetly at him. "If you don’t mind, join us for a meal. I made extra, thinking Grandpa might invite friends over for a meal, so I prepared in advance."

Hearing this, Old Master Sinclair’s face showed more admiration. "Hughes, you’re lucky to have such a thoughtful granddaughter! Unlike me, I’ve just got one ambitious grandson; the rest are just drifting through life."

Old Master Sinclair shook his head as he walked ahead.

Lagging behind, Old Master Huxley and Tina exchanged a knowing look.

Maxim Sinclair, having specially postponed a gathering, arrived at South Hill Sanitarium with freshly acquired tea leaves.

Old Master Sinclair, having returned from his stroll, was admiring the scenery by the window. Seeing Maxim arrive, he greeted him indifferently, "Ah, you’re here."

Maxim nodded, intending to place the tea leaves in the cabinet nearby, only to see a box was already there.

From nearby, Old Master Sinclair remarked, "Oh, Hughes moved into this sanitarium in the past couple days. The tea leaves are from his granddaughter, that Tina, whom you played with when you were little."

Maxim took out the box inside and put his own leaves in. "How come Grandpa Huxley moved in too?"

"He said he came to escape for peace. We’ve been fishing together these past days. His fishing skills aren’t great, yet he keeps saying I’m not catching anything."
