Chapter 110: Chapter 110: Maxim Sinclair Realizes the Huxley Family’s Intentions

Maxim Sinclair picked up the box of tea leaves from outside, looking thoughtful: "I remember Old Master Huxley being in good health, no ailments whatsoever, and he’s very cautious about his health, with several private doctors at his home, so there’s no need for him to be here, is there?"

"You’re exaggerating," Grandpa Sinclair replied noncommittally, walking to the side and popping a pastry into his mouth, "I asked him, and right now he only has two personal doctors at home, and they aren’t even there 24/7."

Despite those words, Maxim still felt something was off: "Why do I feel like he’s intentionally trying to get close to you?"

Grandpa Sinclair was dismissive: "I’ve been retired for so long, and now the Sinclair Family is under your control. What good does getting close to me do? All I do now is enjoy flowers and fish, without meddling in anything. What’s he after?"

"Who knows, maybe there’s something valuable about you that you’ve forgotten, and he’s after that."

Maxim casually tossed the box of tea leaves into the trash can, then patted his hands and leaned over slightly to negotiate with Grandpa Sinclair: "Next month is your eightieth birthday, how about I bring you home for a while?"

"Are you deliberately taking me away to avoid Hughes?" Grandpa Sinclair fixed his gaze on him.

"It’s half and half, I just think Hughes has ulterior motives. I’m too busy with work to keep an eye on him constantly, so bringing you home is the safest bet."

Seeing that Grandpa Sinclair had no objections, Maxim immediately picked up his phone and instructed Assistant Collins to send someone over to help him pack.

He decided to take Grandpa Sinclair back to Varden Villa tonight.

Having weathered many storms, Grandpa Sinclair quickly sensed there was something unusual going on, given Maxim’s strong reaction.

Piecing together today’s events, he slowly realized: "Is Old Master Huxley trying to set him up as his granddaughter’s future husband?"

Maxim neither nodded nor shook his head but instead brought up another matter: "Julian Huxley is highly capable, and I heard Old Master Huxley wanted to bring him back domestically and mentor him, but Tina’s father found ways to obstruct it."

"I’ve heard of this," Grandpa Sinclair rubbed his chin, took the dragon-headed cane beside him, knocked it twice on the ground, and headed toward the door, "Take my favorite chess set and the fishing gear. Don’t forget them; I prefer using my own well-worn things."

In the car, as they were leaving the sanatorium, Grandpa Sinclair looked back and asked Maxim, "I saw the young girl from the Huxley family today; she seemed quite poised. Even though her father sometimes resorts to underhanded tactics, overall, you two are a good match socially, aren’t you considering it?"

Maxim shook his head in denial: "I don’t want to get involved with her."

Seeing his firm stance, Grandpa Sinclair didn’t press further: "Suit yourself; with your status now, you don’t need to rely on marriage alliances. Marry whoever you want."

After a while, Grandpa Sinclair subtly approached the topic again: "As you mentioned, my eightieth birthday is next month, and you’re not getting any younger. Could I soon enjoy the joy of having four generations under one roof?"

As soon as he finished, Summer Lowell’s smiling face appeared in Maxim’s mind.

If he could bring her back...

He got lost in thought, forgetting to respond to Grandpa Sinclair.

Grandpa Sinclair sensed something was up and smiled, turning back around: "I’ll wait, but don’t make me wait too long."

Maxim, finally coming back to his senses, gave a silent, wry smile.

Summer still regarded him as an adversary, and there was no indication of any friendly interaction between them, let alone anything more.

Does it have to come to using a hard-handed approach?

As Maxim had just brought Grandpa Sinclair back to Varden Villa, Old Master Huxley quickly got wind of the news.

In the evening, at the Huxley Estate.

Tina Huxley and her parents were gathered around the table, chatting and laughing over dinner when suddenly a servant rushed in, announcing Old Master Huxley’s return.

The family exchanged glances and then rose together to head outside.

Tina ran out in front, quickly descending the steps to greet Old Master Huxley as he was escorted inside.

Once inside, everyone helped him sit down and asked why he had returned at such an hour.

Mr. Huxley offered him a cup of tea: "Dad, why didn’t you let us know you were coming back so we could pick you up?"

"No need to fetch me; I’m back now anyway," Old Master Huxley put the tea cup down, rubbed his leg, and called for the butler, "Prepare a bowl of chicken soup wontons and some refreshing side dishes for me, I’m hungry."

Tina noticed his mood wasn’t good and stood silently to one side, not daring to ask why he returned suddenly.

Mr. Huxley observed, then bravely suggested, "Shall I help you back to your room?"

Thus, Old Master Huxley was assisted back to his room.

In the living room, Tina worriedly looked at Mrs. Huxley: "Could it be he argued with Grandpa Sinclair?"

Mrs. Huxley patted her hand in comfort: "Don’t panic. Your father’s gone in there; we’ll ask him what happened when he comes out."

With that, the mother and daughter returned to the table to continue their meal.

After dinner, they sat in the living room watching TV for quite a while before Mr. Huxley came out of the room.

As soon as he appeared, Tina rushed over: "What happened?"

Mr. Huxley just shook his head: "Nothing much, just that Maxim Sinclair took Grandpa Sinclair home to start preparing for next month’s eightieth birthday."

"Would he really return so early for that?" Tina sensed something was off, "Could it be Maxim took Grandpa home just to avoid me?"

"I don’t think that’s the case," Mr. Huxley chuckled lightly, "But you should start preparing a gift for Grandpa Sinclair’s eightieth birthday. Today, at the sanatorium, Old Master Huxley tested the waters with Grandpa Sinclair, and he’s quite fond of you. You need to try harder, and it’s best if people are led to believe you’re the chosen granddaughter-in-law."

"Don’t worry, I’ll put my heart into the gift," Tina nodded in agreement.

The next morning, Tina dragged her close friend, Nina White, to the mall.

This time, it was Nina, who had only gone to bed at dawn, yawning: "Is it necessary to come so early? Grandpa Sinclair’s birthday isn’t until the end of next month, you have over forty days to prepare, so why the rush?"

Tina clearly took the matter seriously, and for once didn’t call the driver; she drove herself: "I must hurry. This birthday banquet is very important to me, and I need to prepare early. If there’s no suitable gift here, I’ll search abroad."
