Consequences of Dumping the Obsessive Boss: Stuck with Him Forever-Chapter 13: Sheryl’s Pretended Affection
"Snap!"
Maxim Sinclair flicked the switch, casually looking at Summer Lowell: "I thought... you should be used to my arrival by now."
"I didn’t expect that President Sinclair also has a hobby of breaking and entering. If this gets out, I wonder if it will affect Sinclair Group’s stock price."
Knowing that threatening him with illegality was useless, Summer Lowell’s lips twitched sarcastically as she couldn’t resist the urge to mock.
Maxim Sinclair instead chuckled: "Tsk, look at your sharp tongue. When you were my secretary, it must have been exhausting putting on that act, right?"
"Not too bad, not overly tiring." Summer replied, resigned, then got up and walked to pour herself a glass of water, "So, tell me, President Sinclair, surely your grand visit isn’t just to critique my acting skills?"
Maxim Sinclair rose from the sofa, leisurely strolling over, step by step cornering Summer Lowell.
Summer kept a calm face, but her heart was in turmoil. She subtly moved behind the table, locking eyes with Maxim across it: "Speak from there, there’s no need to come closer."
"Why are you so flustered? I’m not doing anything to you," Maxim chuckled lightly, stopping his advance but blatantly giving Summer a once-over, "Tsk tsk tsk, by the looks of it, the director position at Stellart isn’t easy, is it?"
"It’s alright, I just started, some hardship is to be expected." Summer gritted her teeth and maintained composure, then pointed to the door, "If you’re concerned about me, I appreciate your kindness, but there’s no need. Your esteemed presence is more than this humble place can bear."
Despite being mocked, Maxim Sinclair showed no annoyance. Instead, he cheerfully rested a hand on the back of a chair, sincerely suggesting, "Why not spare yourself the trouble and resign to come back to me?"
Here it comes again, Summer turned her head away, choosing to ignore him.
Maxim Sinclair, as if not seeing her impatience, continued speaking to himself: "If you’re willing to return, I’ll handle the design leak issue for you. How about it? Such a lucrative deal."
"No need," Summer shook her head in refusal, "Maxim Sinclair, I’ve already made it clear; my dream is the International Designer Gold Award. I can’t go back to being your secretary."
At this, Maxim Sinclair’s expression immediately darkened: "Summer, you should know your current situation at Stellart. I advise you to be sensible and give yourself a break, or else you’ll regret it."
His words actually fueled Summer’s anger: "You don’t need to worry about my situation at Stellart. I didn’t leak any design drafts, and I’ll find the evidence to prove my innocence. No need for you to meddle."
Having said that, Summer quickly walked to the door, opened it, and looked coldly at Maxim Sinclair: "You should leave, Maxim Sinclair. Aren’t you tired of pestering me every other day?"
Maxim Sinclair walked over with a sullen face: "Summer, let’s see how long you can hold out!"
"Save your breath, take care on your way out."
The moment Maxim Sinclair’s subtly sarcastic front foot stepped out the door, Summer slammed it shut behind him with a "bang".
Once the door was closed, Summer’s face immediately collapsed.
During the confrontation with Maxim Sinclair earlier, her words were incredibly sharp.
But did it help?
No, she still had to tirelessly search for evidence.
Thinking this, Summer’s mind once again recalled the conversation she overheard on the stairs today.
Sheryl, the newest suspect in the Luna incident.
Before today, every time Summer investigated the designer’s information, she first excluded Sheryl as a suspect.
Unexpectedly, life played such a big joke on her. The person she least wanted to suspect might be the one who harmed her the most.
"What a joke!"
Summer sighed, picked up her phone from beside her, scrolled through the contact list, and made a call, "I have a new suspect. I suspect she’s the one who leaked those things online. Yes, can you help me confirm it? Okay, I’ll send you her information right away."
The next day.
"Knock knock!"
"Come in."
Summer Lowell, focused on revising the design draft, assumed it was her assistant knocking. She looked up to speak but raised an eyebrow unconsciously when she saw who it was.
Sheryl blinked, smiling sweetly as she came over: "Director Lowell, you seem surprised to see me." 𝗳𝐫𝚎𝗲𝚠𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝘃𝚎𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝗺
Summer smiled faintly: "You look exceptionally beautiful today, I’m almost mesmerized."
Sheryl, unsuspecting, naturally touched her face before giving Summer a playful smile: "Looks like my makeup today was a success. To dazzle such a stunning director like you makes the effort worthwhile."
"Indeed, quite stunning," Summer smiled, casually covering her design draft with a nearby file, then continuing the conversation naturally with Sheryl, "What brings you here?"
"It’s good news, of course," Sheryl said mysteriously, "Seeing me dressed up so elaborately, can’t you guess?"
"Can you give me a hint?" Summer’s smile remained unchanged, but in her heart, she was more vigilant than usual.
What was she really up to?
"Oh," Sheryl fiddled with her phone for a moment, then showed it to Summer, "A bar we’ve been to often is hosting an event today, inviting best friends. Wondering if Director Lowell would do me the honor of being my best friend?"
"Girls’ Night Out? Sounds like a good event."
Summer followed her lead, even though Sheryl was currently the primary suspect, without concrete evidence, she had no choice but continue maintaining their previous relationship.
It just so happened that Sheryl recommended a bar Summer had visited many times before — clean, quiet, and trustworthy.
Most importantly, she might be able to extract some useful information from Sheryl during this visit.
"So, it’s settled then?"
Summer nodded with a smile: "Yes, it’s settled. Let’s go together after work tonight."
"Exactly," Sheryl’s smile widened, "We work so hard every day, we definitely need to relax after work so we can keep up this energy!"
"You’re right," Summer laughed along, "Let’s have a good time tonight."
As night fell at Dreamcloud Bar.
Sheryl warmly linked arms with Summer as they walked in: "Sister Summer, you seem to have lost some weight since last time?"
"Really?" Summer replied absentmindedly, "Maybe it’s just work being overwhelming lately, tired me out."
Sheryl’s eyes flickered mockingly, but her voice remained sweet: "Oh, Sister Summer, you’re so impressive and so hardworking, making us ordinary people ashamed of slacking off."
Intuitively, Summer felt discomfort at her words, but couldn’t pinpoint why, so she just laughed dryly and changed the subject: "Where shall we sit?"
