Consequences of Dumping the Obsessive Boss: Stuck with Him Forever-Chapter 14: Set Up Once Again
Sheryl pointed to the corner where they usually sat: "Shall we go to the usual spot? It’s quiet there."
Coincidentally, Summer Lowell also planned to have an earnest conversation with her tonight and maybe probe her intentions: "I think that spot is good too, let’s sit there."
After they took their seats, a familiar bartender approached: "Good evening, ladies! It’s been a while since I last saw you both!"
Sheryl chuckled and placed her right hand on Summer Lowell’s shoulder: "Our Director Lowell is quite a busy person."
"The busier you are, the more you need to relax," the bartender smiled as he placed the napkins, "What would you like to drink tonight?"
"I’ll have the usual," Sheryl snapped her fingers, then turned with a smile to look at Summer Lowell, "What about you, Summer?"
"Same as you," Summer replied absentmindedly, right now she just wanted to ask Sheryl why she insisted on pretending they were close.
The bartender quickly left, and Sheryl removed her coat, revealing her graceful figure, snapping her fingers again at Summer: "What’s up with you? Being absent-minded while out having fun."
"Nothing," Summer smiled, "I just haven’t switched out of work mode yet."
The dim bar lighting concealed the fleeting complex expression on Sheryl’s face: "Well, hurry up and switch then, tonight’s supposed to be our fun night."
Watching Sheryl getting visibly high, Summer finally couldn’t help it, she reached out and tugged on her arm: "Sheryl, I have something to tell you."
"Hmm? Speak, I’m listening." Sheryl summoned the bartender carrying drinks and leaned to talk to Summer, "What do you want to tell me?"
Summer picked up her glass, clinked it with Sheryl’s, smiling brightly: "I’ve been back in the country for a while, but never properly thanked you for being the first at Stellart’s domestic branch to welcome me; I’ll always remember that kindness."
Sheryl didn’t expect her to say this now, she was momentarily stunned, then burst into laughter: "Oh, come on, it’s nothing, no need to be so formal."
"No," Summer took a sip from her glass, looking seriously at Sheryl, "I’m speaking from my heart, just not sure if you’re willing to believe it."
The flickering lights fell on Sheryl’s face, perfectly covering her moment of unease.
Sheryl had no choice but to hide her reaction by drinking, gripping her glass and smiling: "Then we should definitely have another drink."
Seeing her reaction, Summer felt a chill run through her heart; she realized once again that she had made the mistake of trusting someone.
But this time, it was just unfortunate, if it weren’t for her own dire situation, Sheryl’s betrayal wouldn’t have hurt so much.
But thinking the other way around, it was precisely Sheryl’s betrayal that made her situation even more difficult.
Extremely disappointed, Summer accepted the glass pushed towards her, tilted her head back and swallowed half of it, only to realize after that the taste seems a bit off.
Sheryl saw her suddenly pause, a flicker in her eyes as she asked: "What’s wrong?"
"This drink... seems to taste different from last time." A bad feeling rose in Summer’s heart, she suppressed her fear, turning to look casually at Sheryl, "Does your drink taste odd?"
"No," Sheryl replied while downing her own drink, "Tastes fine to me, maybe it’s your taste buds? Or did you eat something with a strong flavor before coming?"
"I don’t know," Summer put down her glass, making no effort to hide the distaste on her face, "This doesn’t taste good, I won’t drink it, maybe the bartender is new."
Sheryl glanced over at the nearly empty glass, smiling good-naturedly: "Want to order a new one?"
"No need."
Recalling the last time she accidentally drank a spiked drink at a banquet, a shadow fell over Summer’s heart, she grabbed her bag and stood up, steadying herself on the table: "I suddenly remembered there’s a file I haven’t dealt with, I need to go."
"It’s after work, you’re going back to the office?" Sheryl got up and supported her arm.
Summer didn’t notice as Sheryl supported her, she made a gesture towards a corner of the bar.
"That file is urgent, needs to be delivered today, I forgot, good thing it’s not too late yet, should still make it."
As Summer spoke, she walked towards the exit, not sure if it was psychological, she vaguely felt a heat rising, and her head seemed a bit dizzy. 𝒻𝑟ℯℯ𝑤𝑒𝑏𝑛𝘰𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝒸𝑜𝘮
This place is not safe to linger.
Summer swift-walked out with her bag, while Sheryl inexplicably clung tightly to her arm: "Don’t walk so quickly, it’s dark here, watch your step!"
"You keep having fun," Summer switched her bag to the other hand and drew her arm out of Sheryl’s grip, "I have work to do, you don’t, you should enjoy yourself, no need to leave with me."
"No way," Sheryl, like sticky candy, clung back on, "I can’t just let you go alone, I don’t feel at ease!"
"What’s there to not...not be at ease about?" Summer finished speaking in a faltering manner, suddenly grabbing the railing at the entrance, shaking her dizzy head, "Stay away from me, don’t come near me!"
Seeing the alcohol taking effect, Sheryl released her hand with a smile: "Director Lowell, I kindly tried to help you, but you sure are ungrateful?"
With that, Sheryl stepped back, glancing at the three to five strong men following, she smiled at Summer, who clung onto the railing: "Director Lowell, the night is still young, enjoy yourself!"
Not yet fully controlled by the drugs, Summer shook her dizzy head again, trying hard to make out Sheryl’s figure, struggled to ask: "You’ve been lying to me all along, haven’t you?"
The voice was full of anguish.
Sheryl looked at Summer’s eyes on the verge of daze, for the first time felt a trace of guilt, but it didn’t last long, disappearing without a trace quickly.
She looked at the strong men standing by and coldly reminded: "Why are you standing there? Hurry and take her. If someone sees, the plan will fail."
Hearing this, the last string in Summer’s heart snapped, she let go of the railing and ran desperately towards the center of the street.
Seeing this, Sheryl’s expression turned dark, quietly urging the nearest strong man: "Hurry up and chase! If you delay any longer, it’ll be too late."
The strong man nodded, pretending to be familiar with Summer, he chased after her.
Summer stumbled forward, paying no mind to the vehicles around.
At that moment, a car door suddenly opened by the roadside, a hand reached out, pulling the passing Summer in.
Completely off guard, Summer instinctively raised her bag to hit, but before she got a chance, it was restrained, and a familiar voice came from behind: "It’s me."
