Consequences of Dumping the Obsessive Boss: Stuck with Him Forever-Chapter 24: No Progress in the Investigation
"That’s good, but Director Lowell, regarding Sheryl’s matter, do you have solid evidence to convict her?"
Upon hearing this question, Summer Lowell uncontrollably recalled those nightmare-like two nights. She breathed out lowly and gently shook her head, "You don’t need to ask so much, just do what you need to do."
Seeing that she didn’t wish to elaborate, Assistant Fletcher did not linger, picked up the reviewed documents nearby, and turned to leave the office.
Approaching noon, the exhausted Summer Lowell couldn’t take it anymore, grabbed the tablet beside her, and temporarily locked the office door.
Then she kicked off her shoes, picked up her coat, walked to the sofa, and lay down for a nap.
Just as she settled down, the phone on the desk suddenly rang loudly.
Summer Lowell could only toss aside her coat, cursing as she walked back to the desk, answering the call: "President Norris, what’s up?"
"If you have time, come to my office. I want to talk to you about Sheryl’s matter."
Seeing how urgent the call was, Summer Lowell mistakenly thought Noah had already investigated and found the evidence to prosecute Sheryl for leaking company documents. So, she hurriedly got dressed and rushed to his office.
In the CEO’s office, Noah looked at Summer Lowell, who ran over eagerly with an expectant face, and sighed lowly, "I investigated Sheryl as you said this morning."
"What were the results?" Summer Lowell, hands resting on the table, asked urgently, "Where is she now?"
"Didn’t find anything useful," Noah, rather aggravated, lit a cigar, "As for her personally, I had someone go to the place she provided in her info, but it’s already deserted."
"Deserted?" Summer Lowell didn’t want to believe this result, "Was the address she initially gave fake?"
"No, the address given is real," Noah shook his head, meeting Summer Lowell’s hopeful gaze, and continued, "I had people ask other colleagues who got along well with her; several have been to her place, the address is correct, but we can’t reach her now."
Having spent the morning anxiously awaiting, Summer Lowell sat weakly in the chair by the desk upon hearing the news: "What’s the situation now? Is everyone busy for nothing?"
Noah exhaled a puff of smoke, feeling reluctant at Summer Lowell’s vulnerability before him, "Don’t worry, I’ve already arranged for people to get the surveillance from the bar you mentioned. I thought about it and decided to report to the police. It’s good that I have some friends in the force who can minimize the impact."
"Report to the police." Summer Lowell murmured the phrase, then recalled what Maxim Sinclair had said at dawn, "By the way, if I remember correctly, Sheryl seemed to mention her boss behind the scenes during a call. President Norris, could you have someone investigate who is behind Sheryl?"
"Behind the scenes boss?" Noah’s face became ugly as he recalled headquarters arranging for Summer Lowell to go undercover with Maxim Sinclair.
He hadn’t approved of this when he found out, the method being too despicable, with the risk of unrecoverable damage to Stellart if exposed.
Though Summer Lowell was competent enough to return successfully to Stellart.
Now hearing from her that Sheryl might also be an undercover agent, Noah couldn’t help but think of the word "retribution."
"President Norris, Sheryl’s matter needs further investigation. Perhaps you could consider whether Stellart has offended anyone or had any overt conflicts of interest with any company?"
Before finishing, both simultaneously thought of Maxim Sinclair, who has had a significant presence recently.
They exchanged a glance and both shook their heads in denial.
Summer Lowell denied because she had received definite news from Maxim Sinclair at dawn. After some consideration, she spoke first: "President Norris, from what I know about Maxim Sinclair, Sheryl shouldn’t be one of his people. Although the incident with Ming Yue has had a large impact on the company, The Sinclair Group cannot profit from it."
Though Noah also felt it was unlikely Maxim Sinclair did this, he had no one else to suspect at the moment: "Don’t forget, Sheryl still has a very important project in her hands."
Summer Lowell couldn’t explain why she was adamant that Sheryl’s mastermind wasn’t Maxim Sinclair, so she temporarily aligned with Noah’s view, "I haven’t forgotten, I’ll personally follow up on this project to prevent any further document leaks."
"Alright, it’s good you have it figured out." Noah nodded, extinguishing the half-burned cigar, "Though Sheryl left unexpectedly, the project can’t be stopped. Get a designer with comparable ability to take over. As for the surveillance, I’ll inform you as soon as there’s news."
"Okay, President Norris." Summer Lowell nodded in agreement, chatted a bit more about the highlights of the new project before leaving.
...
Assistant Fletcher knocked and entered Summer Lowell’s office, placed the designer list on the desk, frowning and shaking his head, "I asked around, but no one is willing to take over Sheryl’s project."
"No one is willing to take over?" Summer Lowell stopped typing, looking up at Assistant Fletcher standing at the desk, "What about Ming Yue? She has abilities comparable to Sheryl, is she willing to take over?"
Assistant Fletcher shook his head, sighing, "Ming Yue isn’t willing. I tried to persuade her, but she wouldn’t agree and even asked how the investigation was going, whether Sheryl is the one who leaked her documents, and how President Norris plans to handle it."
Problem after problem has long-tired Summer Lowell, who is barely holding on. She threw the list she was holding, "What did you say?"
"I said we’re also waiting for news; President Norris has already arranged someone for the investigation, so she should just wait peacefully."
Assistant Fletcher reached for the list, scanning it quickly, and couldn’t help but say, "The most capable ones are only her and Sheryl."
"If she’s not willing, we can’t force her," Summer Lowell grabbed the list, scrutinized the names thoroughly several times, then slapped it onto the desk, "Since no one is willing, I’ll take this project!"
"Director, you can’t take this project. Look at how exhausted you are." Assistant Fletcher adamantly shook his head at this, "If it really doesn’t work... If it really doesn’t work, talk to President Norris about temporarily halting this project, after all, this mess was caused by Sheryl."
"I know you care about me," Summer Lowell gave her a tired smile, "But don’t forget, I’m Sheryl’s direct supervisor. If something goes wrong, I’ll be held accountable when headquarters investigates."
Assistant Fletcher was about to say more when Summer Lowell’s phone rang suddenly. She looked down, seeing it was from Noah.
Summer Lowell gestured to her, picking up the phone, "President Norris, what’s up?"
"Come to my office. There’s something I need to tell you." 𝘧𝑟𝑒𝑒𝘸𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝓁.𝘤𝘰𝓂
Hearing his serious and urgent tone, Summer Lowell guessed it might be another update on Sheryl and immediately got up, hurriedly heading upstairs.
