Consequences of Dumping the Obsessive Boss: Stuck with Him Forever-Chapter 25: Taking Over the Project
Unfortunately, we still haven’t received good news this time.
"So are we a step too late?" Summer Lowell asked Noah, unwilling to give up.
Noah couldn’t help but curse, then nodded helplessly, "Yes, we’re a step too late. When my people went to the bar to get the surveillance footage, they were told the cameras were broken."
"Broke at such a convenient time?" Summer’s expression clearly showed disbelief, "Don’t tell me they broke just on that day?"
"Not just that day," Noah shook his head, looking frustrated, "The cameras have been down for the past week. The excuse was that the boss was too busy and forgot to arrange for repairs."
"I don’t believe it. We went too late. Sheryl probably took care of the surveillance issue before she wrote her resignation letter."
Noah was thinking the same thing: "What a pity, such a good opportunity to follow the clue and it’s gone just like that. Hey, I remember you said she drugged you. It’s only been two days; if we do a drug test... we should be able to find something, right?"
"Well..." Suddenly, Summer looked hesitant, "I’m not sure about that, because I took medication to suppress it right after being drugged."
"Suppressive medication? Did you go to the hospital? Do you have a blood sample report from then?"
Facing Noah’s urgent gaze, Summer struggled to explain, "I didn’t go to the hospital. After the banquet incident last time, I got some meds from a friend to deal with such situations and happened to use them for Sheryl’s case."
"You were well-prepared with the meds," Noah remarked, then couldn’t help but lament, "It’s just unfortunate we couldn’t capture Sheryl smoothly."
"Yeah, truly unfortunate. She slipped away so quickly; it’s hard to catch her," Summer said without much hope, then changed the subject to the project Sheryl had just started on: "In the design department, only Luna has skills comparable to Sheryl’s. But Luna hasn’t moved on from the last incident, especially since Sheryl is still the main suspect. She’s uncomfortable and unwilling to take over Sheryl’s project."
"She doesn’t want to take over?" Noah’s face showed displeasure, "She’s an adult; why is she acting so childish?"
"After all, it’s her labor of over half a year going down the drain. Luna even ended up in the hospital because of it. It’s understandable she’s unwilling to take it on right now."
Seeing Noah getting visibly upset, Summer couldn’t help but say a few good words for Luna.
"You talk as if she’s the only one in a tough spot," Noah’s face was still full of disapproval, "What’s the use of being upset all the time? Here’s a brand-new opportunity, and she’s wasting it by sulking."
"She’s dead set against it, so we can’t force her. Besides, her style is vastly different from Sheryl’s. To truly let her take over would be a risky attempt."
Noah suppressed his anger and asked Summer, "Then, do you have any designers on your team who can take over Sheryl’s project?"
Summer gently shook her head, "The other designers’ skills aren’t quite there. A lot of upfront investment has gone into this project, and there are two difficult shareholders involved. We can’t just pick a designer lightly."
"Do you have any good ideas?" Noah took out a lighter and lit a cigar.
"My current plan is for you to call headquarters and see if we can temporarily transfer a designer here to follow up on this project. Alternatively," Summer paused for a moment, "If that doesn’t work, I’ll follow up on the project myself."
"You?" Noah raised an eyebrow, then chuckled, "You’re not made of iron; can you handle it all?"
"No choice, it’s my duty. If I don’t handle it well, and headquarters blames us, it’s going to be trouble for me." Summer spread her hands helplessly, "If it really comes to that, I have no choice but to go up!"
Having been hit with bad news for days, Noah couldn’t help but laugh at her demeanor: "I’ll call headquarters now and see if we can borrow a designer. I’ll try my best!"
Summer nodded without much hope. She had attended a video conference with headquarters recently and had a sense of the situation there too.
Recently, headquarters has set up several new project groups and is extremely busy.
To call headquarters now for a designer... the chances of success are likely lower than Sheryl coming back to the company to confess now.
As expected, ten minutes later, Noah hung up the phone with a sullen face.
He looked apologetically at Summer, "Tch, we couldn’t manage to get one. You know, they have several new projects there and are short on designers. They were even trying to borrow one from me, which I firmly refused."
Summer pulled a corner of her mouth into a smile, "Well, thank you, President Norris."
"Ah, don’t mention it," Noah lost interest in his cigar and tossed it into the ashtray, "Summer, you’re the director, you know this project really can’t be stopped."
"I understand," Summer nodded lightly, "Here, pick one of your assistants for me temporarily. When things get busy, one assistant might not be enough."
"Sure, sure, I have several assistants. Aside from the special assistant, you can choose anyone. Take as many as you like."
Noah spoke generously, and Summer pursed her lips with a smile, "I only need one, the one who talks the least—Assistant Dalton. I need him to help me handle some tedious paperwork so I can focus on the project."
"Alright, I’ll call him right now," Noah said as he pressed the intercom on the desk, "Assistant Dalton, come in for a moment."
A minute later, Assistant Dalton, in a suit and tie, walked in, "President Norris, did you call for me? Director Lowell is here too."
Summer nodded slightly, "Hello." 𝒻𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝘯𝘰𝑣ℯ𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝘮
Noah pointed to Summer, "Director Lowell will take over Sheryl’s project, but she has a bit too much work. One assistant isn’t enough, so you’ll be heading over to her for a while. Once the project is done, you can return."
Summer stood up, facing Assistant Dalton, and extended her right hand, "This project might take several months to complete. It will be quite demanding, I’m afraid."
Assistant Dalton quickly extended his hand in return, "Director Lowell, you’re too kind. I hope we have a pleasant collaboration in the coming days."
"With Assistant Dalton’s ease, we certainly will have a pleasant collaboration."
The news that Summer had taken over Sheryl’s project spread throughout the design department in less than half an hour.
It was afternoon tea time, and several people were gathered around Luna’s workstation, mostly sympathizing with her: "Luna, why didn’t you take on such a good opportunity? I heard Sheryl’s project is one of the key projects of our company this quarter. If you take it over, it’ll be another feather in your cap."
