Chapter 43: Chapter 43: Tina Huxley Pays a Visit

"Alright, I still have the backup of the information sent to the auction house on my computer. I’ll send it over directly."

Assistant Collins said, then turned and went out to send the email.

Behind the desk, Maxim Sinclair tapped his fingers on the table, filled with doubts, "But what’s the real purpose of him calling? It’s just a piece of information, does he really need to ramble on to build a connection?"

Meanwhile, in the president’s office of Omni Industries, Mr. Huxley put down the phone and looked up to see Tina Huxley looking tense beside him. He couldn’t help but laugh, "You like him that much? I just made a call to him, and it makes you this nervous!"

Embarrassed by the tease, Tina turned her head, "Who’s nervous?"

"Alright, you’re not nervous," Mr. Huxley didn’t dwell on the topic, reached for his teacup, and took a sip to soothe his throat, "He sent the information over very straightforwardly. If he could just as easily return that piece of land to us, that would be even better."

"It’s just a piece of land information that he doesn’t intend to keep. Holding on to it is a waste, so of course, he would give it up easily, especially since you are his senior." Tina said nonchalantly.

While they were speaking, the assistant to the president pushed the door open and came in, placing the freshly printed information on the table, "President Huxley, this is the information Assistant Collins from the Sinclair Group emailed me a few minutes ago. He said it’s the information you wanted."

"Yes, it’s the information I wanted." Mr. Huxley nodded, reached for the information, and began to carefully look it over.

Tina, who had nothing to do, felt a pang of curiosity. She then instructed the assistant, "Print the same information for me too."

The assistant nodded and came back, handing her the freshly printed document.

Tina had barely opened the information before she saw Mr. Huxley looking up at her from behind the desk, "This piece of land is a good one. Its value will definitely double in the future."

Tina, not having had time to see the information, didn’t immediately grasp the key point in his statement, "So? What do you need me to do?"

"Finish reading the information, then find a reason to visit Maxim Sinclair at the Sinclair Group. I need you to persuade him to agree to skip the auction process and sell the land directly to us. We’re not taking it for free; we’ll pay for it."

"The auction is only days away. If you truly want the land, why not just bid high for it at the auction?" Tina was reluctant to ask Maxim directly, "If I just go and ask him outright, it might annoy him, right?"

"No," Mr. Huxley slowly shook his head, "You can use this opportunity to test him, to see your standing in his heart."

"Dad, if he has feelings for me, that’s best. If not, we can work on building them. I don’t want to do anything that might irritate him right off the bat."

Tina’s face was still filled with reluctance, "I’ve known him for so long, and I know that much. If I just go over and ask, he’ll definitely dislike it."

Seeing her unwillingness, Mr. Huxley had to compromise a bit, "I’m not asking you to directly demand. You could subtly probe him. Maxim Sinclair is extremely smart; if you give a hint, he’ll probably guess your intentions. Be tactful. If it annoys him, you can place the blame on me."

"Alright then, I’ll go and gauge his reaction to see if it’s doable."

"Hmm, don’t be too direct. Find another reason. Oh, there’s that co-designed project we have with the Sinclair Group. We need to promote the product in over a dozen cities nationwide afterward. Use that as a pretext to visit him."

"Alright," Tina stuffed the information into her bag and slung it over her shoulder, "I’ll go change my look first. I’ll visit him around noon and see if I can have lunch with him. If we have lunch, I can probe his thoughts during the meal."

"Do whatever you think is most suitable."

...

"Come in."

By the window, enjoying the view, Maxim Sinclair turned around at the sound of knocking. Seeing that Assistant Collins entered empty-handed, he asked, "Is there a guest?"

Assistant Collins nodded, "Miss Tina Huxley from Omni Industries is waiting for you at the reception."

Maxim recalled the phone call from not long ago, contemplating for a moment before inquiring of Assistant Collins, "Do I have any meetings lined up later?"

"No, do you need me to set one up?"

"Let me think," Maxim tapped the rim of his coffee cup lightly with his index finger. After a moment, he shook his head, "No need. Tell reception to let her come up. I want to see what the Huxley family is up to today."

Ten minutes later, Tina was adjusting her outfit in the mirror at the office door, finally pushing the door open, "Maxim, are you busy?"

Just having sat down, Maxim looked up and smiled at her, "Busy, busy all day long, never a free moment."

As he spoke, Maxim got up from behind the desk, gesturing for Tina to head to the guest area, "What wind blew you here today?"

"The east wind that always brings good news, of course!" Tina cheerfully accepted the hot tea, "Thanks. Thank you for remembering I love floral tea."

"No thanks necessary. The floral tea wasn’t specially prepared for you," Maxim poured himself a coffee and sat across from Tina, "I have quite a few important clients who are ladies that love floral tea, so I keep it in the office for them."

Despite his words, Maxim’s mind suddenly flashed to the days when Summer Lowell was his secretary, always enjoying her floral tea with delight.

She also dearly loved floral tea.

Though his words were indifferent, Tina, accustomed to this, just pouted, "You haven’t changed a bit, never saying anything nice when we meet."

"We’re so familiar, why bother with insincere niceties," Maxim said, relaxing back in his seat and looking at Tina from a superior position, "So, what brings you here today?"

"Oh, nothing much. I was out handling some matters this morning," Tina relaxed back into the sofa, "Finished my business, passed by, and thought it’s been a while since we met, so I came up to say hi."

In his heart, Maxim totally disbelieved her excuse, "You’re thoughtful. Have a rest here, have a couple of teas before you leave."

Two cups of tea weren’t going to satisfy Tina.

"You’re so stingy. I even bought tea and snacks for your secretaries and assistants, yet you won’t even have lunch with me." Tina feigned a grievance, "Considering we’ve known each other since childhood, saying such things would indeed be laughable."

"It’s just a meal, no big deal, let’s eat. I can afford that."
