Consequences of Dumping the Obsessive Boss: Stuck with Him Forever-Chapter 49: The Unspoken Words
"No need to thank me," Justin Huxley draped a coat over her shoulders. "I stepped in to help because I couldn’t stand watching them bully you like that."
"Mm, regardless, today I still owe you a lot," Summer Lowell replied.
Summer took the bowl of soup and sipped it slowly.
Worried that Summer might do something drastic again, Justin specifically called in to take a day off to stay and keep her company in the hospital.
Summer’s injuries weren’t very serious, and she was discharged smoothly three days later.
On the day of discharge, Justin personally escorted Summer back to class, and for several days in a row, he brought snacks and drinks to visit her.
At that time in the school, Justin was a figure like a legend.
Part of his fame came from his refined and handsome looks, exuding a gentle elegance like a young nobleman from ancient times, combined with his years studying abroad, which gave him a bit of a Western flair. This blend created his unique charisma, attracting everyone’s attention.
More importantly, he was known for his decisive nature. Anyone who annoyed him was severely dealt with, making him feared in a school that discriminated against Asian kids, so no one dared to mess with him.
Under his intentional protection, the students who initially bullied and isolated Summer also changed their attitudes.
With his shield, Summer could finally focus all her attention on her studies, free from bullying.
It wasn’t until she received the acceptance letter from her dream university that Summer finally gathered the courage to buy that dress she had been eyeing for so long and went to find Justin wearing it.
But when she followed the familiar path in her memory to Justin’s place, she found it empty, with only a red-haired, white-skinned plump woman gesturing to her and speaking in a language she completely couldn’t understand.
So, those words never got a chance to be spoken.
...
"What are you thinking about?" Justin noticed Summer zoning out and snapped his fingers in front of her.
Lost in thought, Summer returned to the present and gave him an embarrassed smile, "Oh, nothing much, I was just thinking about how long it’s been since we last met and accidentally started reminiscing about some old times."
Once she said that, Justin immediately guessed what she had been thinking about, "Why dwell on unhappy memories? Focus more on the present. Look at you, both beautiful and capable. I didn’t even recognize you at first, but those eyes when you smiled, they’re just like before. I couldn’t help but test the waters by calling you, thankfully I wasn’t mistaken, or that would’ve been awkward."
Summer touched her eye corner sheepishly, "Maybe my makeup is too heavy today, making it hard for you to recognize the real me."
Justin shook his head disapprovingly, "I’ve always told you, you need to be more confident. After all those years abroad, you’re the most beautiful Asian girl I’ve ever met. You know my standards are high, right?"
No girl would dislike being complimented on her beauty, and Summer was no exception, "Senior, you still haven’t changed, always good at complimenting others."
After saying this, they shared a smile, and Justin took out his phone, "Since it’s such a coincidence we met and we both work around here, we should exchange contact details."
"Sure," Summer responded, picking up her phone and showing Justin her WeChat QR code, "I happened to come back early, I know a few great restaurants around here. When are you free? I’ll treat you to dinner!"
Justin smiled, somewhat hesitantly, "I should be the one treating you. However, I’m currently working with a friend, and his company is just starting, so it’s quite busy. I might not have time in the next few days."
"No worries, now that we’re in the same place, there’s plenty of time to meet up, and I have a pressing project to finish myself. If you were available in the next few days, I’d find myself in a bind."
Just as Summer finished speaking, her phone rang. It was Assistant Fletcher, informing her of a small issue with the project that needed her immediate attention.
Noticing this, Justin gave an understanding nod, "Go take care of your work first, we’ll have plenty of chances to catch up later."
Summer gave him an apologetic smile and then hurriedly left the café.
Once upstairs, Summer entered her office and immediately sensed something off in the atmosphere. Upon closer inspection, she saw Noah, standing behind the computer, talking to Ming Yue.
Summer straightened her badge and walked over to greet him, "President Norris, what brings you down here?"
"Oh," Noah shifted his gaze from Ming Yue’s computer and smiled as he looked up, "I was passing by your design department and wanted to check on the progress, so I came in to take a look."
Summer took the prepared documents from Assistant Fletcher and handed them to Noah, "Here, President Norris, this is the current progress of the Four Seasons project. Please take a look."
"No need," Noah declined the documents, turned to pick up a drink delivered by the downstairs café, and took a sip on his own, "I trust in your abilities, with you overseeing this project, there won’t be any issues."
After saying that, Noah glanced at the design drafts a few more times, but didn’t stay long in the design department before leaving.
Once he left, Summer turned and went back to her own office.
Assistant Fletcher, carrying the documents, followed her in, placing them back in the drawer while casting a curious glance her way.
Summer quickly sensed his gaze, "You seem like you have something on your mind. Just spit it out."
"Director Lowell, I heard from Ming Yue that you ran into an old friend downstairs, and apparently a very handsome one at that, and then you came back in high spirits, so I was a bit curious."
Summer chuckled lightly. The sudden appearance of her former senior whom she once secretly admired indeed put her in a good mood.
Even though the old crush had faded, she was still happy to see the person who had helped her so much again. 𝘧𝘳𝘦ℯ𝓌𝘦𝒷𝘯𝑜𝑣𝘦𝓁.𝒸𝘰𝓂
"He was someone who once saved me. Countless times I’ve felt grateful for having met him back then, or else who knows what a mess I’d be?"
"That sounds serious!" Assistant Fletcher blinked and pulled out his phone, "Shouldn’t you treat him to a meal? I have a detailed guide to local restaurants. If you’re interested, I can forward it to you."
"Such a treasure, of course I’m interested," Summer tapped the table twice urgingly, "Send it over quickly, I’ve already told him I’d treat him, so I have to carefully choose a restaurant."
"Sent it to you," Assistant Fletcher waved his phone at her, "But if you want to invite him for dinner, it’ll probably have to wait until after the next bid is over."
"No rush, now that we’re in the same city, we’ll have plenty of chances to meet in the future."
Summer cheerfully added the file Assistant Fletcher sent her to her favorites, "As the saying goes, the future is long."
Just as Summer was preparing for an indefinite wait before their next meeting, Noah took her to an important business banquet.
"President Norris."
Summer tugged at her slightly uncomfortable gown, maintaining a fake smile as she linked arms with Noah, "What level of banquet is this? There are so many big shots here."
"It’s the kind of banquet that can bring more benefits to our company," Noah replied.
