Chapter 52: Chapter 52: Jealousy in the Air

Watching Summer Lowell and Justin Huxley’s figures disappear into the distance, Maxim Sinclair withdrew his gaze and turned to Assistant Collins, "Have someone follow them."

"Yes." Assistant Collins said into the phone and then cautiously observed Maxim Sinclair’s expression, "President Sinclair, we’ve been out for quite a while now, should we head back? President Goldman from Vastwin seems to want to discuss some project matters with you."

"No rush," Maxim Sinclair said as he slowly lit a cigarette, "Do you have the evidence of Stellart Branch’s designer, Sheryl, maliciously leaking the company’s drafts with you?"

"The evidence is stored in the email. Do you need it now? I can retrieve it at any time."

As Assistant Collins spoke, he took out his phone and opened the email interface.

"Not for now," Maxim Sinclair extinguished his half-smoked cigarette, "Send the evidence to my phone, I might need it later."

"Alright."

In the time it took for Assistant Collins to speak, he forwarded the email to Maxim Sinclair’s phone.

"Also, go handle President Goldman from Vastwin."

After saying this, Maxim Sinclair directly left the balcony.

On the other side, Justin Huxley lightly wrapped his arm around Summer Lowell as they walked down the corridor, only letting go when they reached the end. He stopped and looked at her with concern, "Those guys just now are notorious playboys here. Did you accidentally offend them somehow?"

Summer’s eyes dimmed, and she gently shook her head, "I don’t remember offending them. Maybe they’re just full and bored, thinking I’m an easy target."

"Summer, after so many years, how have you not toughened up?" Justin Huxley tapped her forehead in frustration, "I’ve told you before, you need to be strong so those messy people won’t push you around."

"How do you know I’d be pushed around?" Summer smiled, playfully blinking, "If you hadn’t shown up just now, those guys might have already been knocked down by me."

"So you’re saying I showed up too early?" Justin Huxley looked at her disapprovingly, "In such a formal banquet, where you’re representing your company, do you think it’s appropriate to start a fight?"

Summer looked down with a smile, "That’s why your timing was perfect. If you had been a bit later, I might have done something impulsive, making an irreparable mistake. At that point, I bet my company would have just fired me."

"Well, that’s good. My current studio is in need of people. If things don’t work out there, you can come to me. With my backing, you wouldn’t even need an interview to join."

Justin Huxley joked, half-seriously.

Time had passed, and the once faint feelings Summer held were long gone. She no longer blushed or felt heart palpitations from his teasing: "Justin, you’re still as fond of joking as ever, but I’ve worked hard to become a design director. It would be such a waste to just give it up like that!"

Fortunately, Justin Huxley didn’t pursue the topic further, "Since you understand how hard it is to get where you are, next time you face a similar situation, think of a smart way out. If you really must resort to physical means, ensure you’re not caught."

"Thanks for the advice, senior. I’ll pay attention in the future."

Summer smiled as she agreed, then walked side by side with him into the bustling hall of the banquet.

On the second-floor railing of the hall, Maxim Sinclair loosely rested one hand on the rail, his eyes lazily scanning the room.

The door to the east wing where Summer had been was only a few dozen meters away, just a short corridor away.

By logic, she and Justin Huxley should have appeared by now.

Taking so long, who knows what those two were up to.

Maxim Sinclair’s eyes grew darker, just as he was about to instruct Assistant Collins to check the situation again, Summer finally appeared.

And with her was Justin Huxley.

Maxim Sinclair snorted softly, avoiding those behind him trying to strike up a conversation, and leisurely made his way downstairs via the side stairs.

Halfway, he casually took a glass of wine from the tray of a passing server.

He then walked directly up to where Summer and Justin were having a quiet conversation.

Justin, who was slightly bowing and listening intently to Summer, sensed someone approaching and subtly looked up.

Summer also noticed Maxim Sinclair walking straight over.

Seeing his displeased expression, Summer instinctively tucked away her smile, which had been radiating from her eyes and brows.

Maxim Sinclair didn’t miss her change in demeanor and gave a mocking smile.

This fool, doesn’t even know friend from foe.

"Justin, when did you get back?"

Maxim Sinclair stopped and loudly greeted Justin, "We’re all old friends, and you don’t even say a word when you return? That’s not fair!"

"Maxim?" Justin Huxley laughed heartily, "You’re here today too? How come I didn’t notice you earlier?"

"Maybe you were too focused on a certain someone," Maxim Sinclair said with a meaningful smile, his gaze lingering on Summer, "We haven’t seen each other in years, right?"

"No way, we even saw each other at last year’s Christmas. We ran into each other briefly on the plane during your business trip abroad," Justin Huxley raised his glass to clink with him, "President Sinclair, it seems you’ve become forgetful!"

"Oh, that’s right, I forgot," Maxim Sinclair sipped his drink and deliberately said, "Did you come alone today? Didn’t bring Tina Huxley? Attending such an interesting banquet without your sister, you’re not being a good brother!"

Tina?

Standing beside Justin, who tried to maintain a low profile since Maxim Sinclair’s appearance, Summer couldn’t help but perk up her ears.

Who is this Tina Maxim is referring to?

Could it be Tina Huxley?

It seems possible. Justin’s last name is also Huxley, so his sister could very well be Tina Huxley.

"Director Lowell? We worked together for a year, and when you see me, an old boss, you don’t even want to say hello?"

Maxim Sinclair, seeing through Summer’s small actions, suddenly directed the conversation towards her.

Predicting she would be called out by Maxim Sinclair, Summer promptly put on a highly polished smile, "Hello, President Sinclair. Long time no see, you still look as charming as ever."

Next to her, Justin only now realized that they knew each other: "Summer, you worked at Maxim’s Sinclair Group before?"

Before Summer could respond, Maxim Sinclair suddenly grabbed her wrist and answered on her behalf, "She was once my personal secretary, and... the most intimate kind!"
