Chapter 46: Chapter 46: Brutal Blows

This was the first time Hikigaya realized that Chabashira Sae actually had such a twisted sense of humor.

At first glance, she gave off a cold and indifferent vibe. Who would've thought she had such a sarcastic streak? Then again, it just showed how completely fed up she was with this class.

But... was this really okay?

If her earlier words were just venting after all these frustrating days, Hikigaya could understand. But continuing to mock and tear down the students—wasn't she afraid it would make those who wanted to turn over a new leaf give up completely?

And if it was just harsh words, that would be one thing. But there was something even more important—something Chabashira-sensei still hadn't said.

Something worse than not receiving any private points.

Even though Hirata was clearly shaken by what Chabashira-sensei had said, he quickly pulled himself together. He stared at the numbers on the poster and asked,

"Sensei, I know we've been doing terribly, and as the class leader, I can't deny my responsibility. I apologize for that."

"But if, as you say, the school's rules are fair and apply equally to everyone, then why is there such a huge gap between classes? Some classes only lost 60 points—how is that reasonable? Could there be other factors we don't know about that led to a miscalculation?"

Hikigaya had to give it to Hirata. Even when the odds were against him, he still managed to spot a possible loophole—trying to lessen the damage as much as he could.

Too bad...

Hikigaya sighed internally.

"Hirata, I like the way you think," Chabashira-sensei said coldly, scanning the room before continuing,

"But even now, you people still don't understand why you were put in this class."

Hirata froze, and many students looked equally stunned. But some, like Horikita, were quick to put the pieces together. From everything that had happened so far, combined with Chabashira-sensei's words, she had already guessed a truth she didn't *want* to know.

"If the rules are fair, then why is the difference between classes so big? The answer is simple. This school sorts students by ability. Class A has the best students. And naturally... the ones in Class D are the worst. And the results so far have already proven that."

The classroom fell into a heavy silence.

Shock and confusion were written all over everyone's faces.

What Chabashira-sensei just said meant that Class D was full of the worst students. That was something no normal student would want to accept. No one wanted to be seen as inferior. No one wanted to be discriminated against.

Horikita, who had been calculating the possible changes in class points, dropped her pen with a soft clatter. It rolled off the desk and onto the floor... the tip snapping off.

In the whole classroom, maybe there was only one person who could accept being called the worst student without a second thought.

Hikigaya felt nothing.

If he wasn't one of the worst students, then Shizuka-sensei wouldn't have been assigned here. She wouldn't have been dragged down by him...

Was Chabashira-sensei wrong?

No. She was completely right.

Hikigaya agreed with both hands raised.

Class D was the worst.

Because it was full of the worst students.

Just look at Ike and Yamauchi, those two monkey brothers. Instead of feeling embarrassed, they were nodding along, like *Oh, so that's how it is*—as if it was completely natural.

"Of course, compared to the other classes, you guys are hopeless. But if you compare yourselves to past Class Ds, there is something worth praising."

Chabashira-sensei's voice was cold, and Hikigaya had a bad feeling—like she was about to twist the knife even further.

And sure enough, she continued.

"You are, without a doubt, the strongest Class D in the history of this school."

"Because you're the only ones who managed to burn through every single class point in the very first month!"

"Amazing. Truly amazing. You'll *definitely* go down in this school's history. Future students will look back and *admire* this legendary achievement!"

As she finished speaking, Chabashira-sensei clapped her hands.

In the dead-silent classroom, her applause rang out—like slap after slap across everyone's faces.

God, that was satisfying.

Hikigaya knew it was wrong, but he couldn't help but enjoy the schadenfreude.

After all, for the past month, he had been constantly pushed aside by cliques, ignored by girls, and mocked by those monkey brothers.

Even now, Yamauchi—the brainless idiot—was still calling his name like an idiot.

Of course... Chabashira-sensei sure had a serious grudge.

Hikigaya was starting to think she might have a revenge notebook she had been saving up—just for a day like this.

Hikigaya decided it was best to avoid her in the future. A woman at this age, still single, and probably going on blind dates often—just too terrifying for him!

"Damn it! Are we really just gonna let the other classes keep looking down on us?!" Sudou, always quick to explode, kicked a desk, making a loud bang.

"Heh, so you guys actually care about your reputation?"

Chabashira-sensei glanced coldly at the students of Class D. "I thought you didn't even care about saving face. Oh, and there's something else I forgot to mention—class points don't just determine how many private points you get each month. They also decide your class ranking. If your class points reach 500, you move up from Class D to Class C."

"So if you all had understood the importance of following school rules and discipline, you might have already made it to Class C, maybe even Class B. You could've shaken off the label of 'worst students'... Tsk, what a shame!"

Honestly, Chabashira-sensei could've just left out that last part.

That was the first thought that crossed the minds of many students, including Hirata. But of course, she said it anyway, and soon enough, groans of despair filled the room.

"Talk about a sadistic sense of humor!"

Hikigaya had a strong suspicion that Chabashira-sensei was deliberately getting back at Hirata for his "what if" earlier. Nothing stings more than realizing you could have had something—only to lose it.

The most useless thing in the world is regret after the fact.

"Not that it really matters for you guys. Whether you're in Class D, Class C, or even Class B, it makes no difference."

Chabashira-sensei smirked. "This school boasts a 100% employment and college acceptance rate, but that privilege is reserved for the very best students. Do you get what I'm saying? In other words, only students in Class A can enjoy that guarantee. Everyone else? Too bad."

"What?!"

Chabashira Sae had been throwing verbal punches from the start, and every single one was a direct hit.
