Chapter 42: Feng Ye Sect

Gu Qinghe flew on his sword, following wherever the woman led. She introduced herself as Xiao Wu, one of the disciples of the Feng Ye Sect.

The sect specialized in the wood element, giving them an advantage in healing, detoxifying poisons, and maintaining high flexibility.

Gu Qinghe had never heard of this sect before. He assumed that the Feng Ye Sect was not a major sect whose influence needed to be taken seriously by others.

Their sect was not located in the mountains, but within a forest near a village, far from Hongsu City.

Gu Qinghe narrowed his eyes, occasionally spotting cultivators in leaf-green robes flying in and out of the forest.

Xiao Wu flew low between the trees, and Gu Qinghe followed. Ahead of them, the sect gate came into view, with two cultivators standing guard.

Xiao Wu slowed to a stop as the two gate guards approached and blocked their path.

"Junior Xiao, who is this with you?" one of the guards asked, glancing at Gu Qinghe.

"He’s a senior cultivator who saved me from the Huo Lian Sect. I brought him here so he could meet Elder Yun."

The two guards looked at Gu Qinghe for a moment. Soon, they allowed him to enter, trusting Xiao Wu.

The sect’s protective barrier opened, and Xiao Wu and Gu Qinghe stepped inside. The young man could now clearly see the Feng Ye Sect.

Their herbal gardens were far more extensive than their training grounds. Not many disciples practiced combat techniques. Most focused on pill refinement.

There were three main buildings within the sect: two halls for specialized studies and one main hall for the sect leader. The total number of disciples was small, fewer than two hundred.

They landed in the front courtyard, right in front of the sect leader’s hall. Xiao Wu called for her master, one of the sect elders.

The doors of the main hall opened, and a beautiful woman with black hair, wearing an elegant leaf-green dress, gracefully flew out. Gu Qinghe watched her arrival.

"You’ve returned, Xiao Wu."

"Disciple greets Master," Xiao Wu said.

She landed in front of Xiao Wu, but her attention shifted past her disciple. Her gaze fixed on the young man in black standing behind Xiao Wu.

"Who is he?" the woman asked.

"He is the senior cultivator who saved me from the disciples of the Huo Lian Sect."

The woman approached Gu Qinghe with graceful steps. She clasped her hands in respect and thanked him for saving her disciple.

"As her master, I thank you, Fellow Daoist, for helping my disciple," she said, introducing herself as Su Yue.

Gu Qinghe smiled in response to her warm welcome. From what he could sense, Su Yue’s cultivation was on par with his own, at the Early Core Formation stage.

"Is there anything you want? Even though we are a small sect, we can still offer something in return," Su Yue said.

"I am just a wandering cultivator, not bound to anything and not in need of much," Gu Qinghe replied.

"What is your name, Fellow Daoist?"

Gu Qinghe paused for a moment, glanced at Xiao Wu, then looked back at Su Yue.

"My name... is Wang Gu."

"Very well, Fellow Daoist Wang Gu. You must be tired from your journey. You may rest for a day in one of our guest houses," Su Yue said.

"If you change your mind and want something, don’t hesitate to tell me."

Gu Qinghe, now using the name Wang Gu, nodded. He needed to fully embrace the role of a wandering cultivator, and this stay at the Feng Ye Sect was a good opportunity.

Xiao Wu led Wang Gu to the guest house, which was located away from the three main buildings and also far from the herbal gardens.

Even so, Wang Gu was impressed. The Feng Ye Sect had a solid foundation in pill refinement.

The herbs they cultivated were easy to use and suitable for refining Mortal and Spirit-grade pills.

Wang Gu landed in front of the guest house. It was in good condition, clean, and neatly arranged. There were three rooms inside, but he only needed one.

"You can stay here for the night. Elder Su also allows you to cultivate, but you’re not allowed to take any herbs," Xiao Wu said.

"Of course. A place to stay and cultivate is more than enough for me."

"Alright, I’ll take my leave. I need to deliver the items I bought earlier."

Xiao Wu said her goodbye and flew off, leaving Wang Gu alone.

The young man walked to the meditation altar inside the house, formed hand seals, and used his time to cultivate.

Tomorrow, he would have to leave and continue his journey toward the Yellow River Palace Ruins.

Time passed as Wang Gu cultivated intensely. At midnight, a loud surge of mysterious qi energy echoed from outside the Feng Ye Sect.

The sound was sharp and disruptive, startling many cultivators, waking those who slept, and disturbing those in cultivation.

"Sect Leader Feng Qing! Come out and greet your guests!"

A man’s voice echoed across the entire sect, calling for someone named Feng Qing.

Wang Gu stopped cultivating, opened his eyes, and activated the ocular ability of his Heavenly Insight Technique.

To the south of the sect, around fifty cultivators in red robes were flying on their swords. Their uniforms matched the three cultivators Wang Gu had defeated earlier.

Soon after, a woman named Feng Qing flew out from the sect leader’s hall. Unlike Elder Su and the other elders, Feng Qing was the sect leader of Feng Ye and was at the Golden Core stage.

That aura... death?

What Wang Gu saw was unmistakable and terrifying. A dense aura of death surrounded Feng Qing’s body.

The appearance of a death aura could only mean two things: either she was afflicted by a dark curse, or her lifespan had less than fifty years remaining.

Wang Gu stepped outside, watching as the elders and the sect leader flew forward to confront the elders and disciples of the Huo Lian Sect.

"I didn’t expect Elder Liu Feng to visit my small sect in the middle of the night," Feng Qing said firmly.

"One of your disciples injured three of my sect’s disciples. We’ve come to ask for an explanation!" Liu Feng declared.

"My disciple was ganged up on by your three disciples. I didn’t make an issue out of it. Why are you?"

"My disciples are injured, while yours is not. Of course we’re making an issue out of it!"

"If you don’t take action, we’ll destroy your sect!" Liu Feng threatened.

"We will stand by what we believe is right, even if it means fighting you!"

Feng Qing formed hand seals, summoning a dark green magic formation. The other three elders did the same, channeling their qi to strengthen her formation.

From the formation, tree roots burst upward, spreading across the protective barrier to reinforce the sect’s defenses.

Even with the death aura covering her body, she could still use such a large-scale formation.

Elder Liu Feng formed hand seals, summoning fiery meteors that began bombarding the sect’s protective barrier. The other Huo Lian Sect disciples joined in the attack.

The members of the Feng Ye Sect woke up and rushed to support their elders, helping to maintain the defensive formation.

At first, they managed to withstand the barrage. But as Feng Qing’s condition worsened, they struggled to hold the formation any longer.

BLAST!

A fiery meteor from Liu Feng shattered the sect’s protective barrier, destroying the spreading roots and setting everything ablaze. Feng Qing was pushed back and fell to the ground, severely injured.

The three elders rushed to help her, but they were unprepared when another meteor came crashing down toward the Feng Ye Sect.

"No one can save you anymore!" Liu Feng shouted.

Wang Gu shot into the sky from the guest house. His hands formed seals as he summoned a massive golden bell.

The blazing meteor collided with the golden bell’s barrier. Within seconds, the meteor shattered and exploded, while Wang Gu’s golden bell remained intact.

"Ugh!"

"Who are you?!" Liu Feng shouted.

Wang Gu dispelled the golden bell and revealed his face.

"I’m the one who injured your disciples, not the Feng Ye Sect!"

"If you’re looking for trouble, you should be coming after me!"
