Damned Healer-Chapter 558: Hatred And Confusion
Darian saw the fury in that Three-Eyed Raven, and a corner-smile showed up on his face. The entrance to the final test was a huge dome in the center of the planet, and of course, he’d seen that figure standing at the gate long before arriving, coming straight for him.
That was because he was the only one in the entire third line actually trying to enter the place. All the other Three-Eyed Ravens were scattered around randomly.
Which meant that figure was the ’Great Young Master’ of the race. And dealing with that kind of figure was always advantageous — and honestly, pretty enjoyable. A perfect combination.
"Say your name! I, Galteus, am the next Emperor of the Three-Eyed Raven race. I don’t kill nameless mediocrities!" he shouted.
"Give it up. You’re acting tough like an idiot, while I don’t even know how many guys like you I’ve already killed. Get lost; a good dog doesn’t stand in someone else’s way. If you can’t even handle the pressure of the final test and enter, standing here for days like a moron at the entrance, what qualifications do you have to block my path?" Darian mocked in a light tone.
"An arrogant human?! Hahaha... great, you can only be that Darian the outsiders told me about. Perfect, I’ll end this quickly."
Darian listened without emotion. The Twilight Owls, Rainbow Cranes, and the Three-Eyed Raven races were obviously enemies, so information about Darian wasn’t shared among them. Galteus knowing about Darian — someone who’d never interacted with his race — only meant the idiot had revealed the possible whereabouts of the Wube family.
When Galteus stood up, a pulsing, three-colored aura rose around him. The entire area began to vibrate as he walked alone toward Darian like some imperial peacock.
Alear narrowed her eyes. This guy was activating the sealed power in his core, just like that other one she had attacked. But Galteus was like heaven and earth in comparison. Besides having a hundred times more stored power, he had complete control over it without wasting anything. It was like it was his own power, not some external thing he kept for emergencies.
With each of his steps, the metallic ground trembled and cracked beneath his feet, and his aura intensified, radiating a terrifying wild ferocity. His feathers danced in the wind as his three eyes pulsed with lights full of violent intent.
"My time is valuable. I’ll finish this in five moves." He spat the words out, stepping forward one step at a time.
He was a newly promoted next Emperor, and since birth, he’d never found a challenger who matched his strength anywhere in the universe. Within the same level, just a few could withstand more than ten of his blows. A common human from another universe? He only felt disdain. Pure disdain.
Niara and Alear stopped walking, staring at the idiot ahead with excited expressions.
Especially Alear, who always heard stories about her adoptive father’s feats but never saw him fight for real.
Comparing him with the one who had exchanged a real blow earlier, she judged she would have to go all out, and maybe need twenty or thirty moves to beat the one standing before them.
Alear looked at Darian’s back, holding her breath, seeing a subtle multicolored aura expanding around his body. He automatically became the only light source in that world.
At that moment, Galteus instinctively felt something terrifying and narrowed his eyes.
Facing Darian’s red eyes, he saw Darian’s fists slowly close.
"I’m going to attack. Don’t come up with some ridiculous excuse later, saying it was a ’sneak attack’ and I’m despicable..." Darian said calmly.
For an instant, Galteus felt the world go silent.
He swallowed hard and focused, moving all his power to his body. He specialized in this and had total confidence in his defenses, more than in his offense.
Then, suddenly, Darian moved — disappearing!
*BANG!*
A ball of feathers shot backwards like a meteor. Feathers scattered everywhere, then a loud crash echoed as he slammed into the barrier of the final test.
Darian had barely used any energy. He just activated his domain over the three powers of life to weaken the idiot’s defenses — which relied exactly on that.
Normally, doing something like that mid-battle would be very hard, since that power was under the enemy’s domain. But they were in the third line of the test, and Galteus was obviously under the pressure of the place.
A part of his strength and attention always had to be used to resist the pressure. That created a huge flaw in his control, letting Darian do this easily.
After three silent seconds, the guy stood up, spitting blood.
"These feathers have a peculiar and pretty tone, Dan. How about plucking him so I can make another dress?" Niara’s mocking voice echoed.
Hearing that, the figure’s face twisted... then he immediately spat another mouthful of blood.
"His colors are too dark and solid. Your beauty stands out more with light and bright things." Darian answered calmly.
"This race has many members, and their feathers have great potential. We’ll find qualified ones for you and Alear. Not something so mediocre."
Niara nodded immediately in agreement.
"YOU! HOW DARE YOU...!" Galteus roared, but stopped halfway, almost fainting. Nearly panicking, he managed to stabilize himself by spitting more blood.
Alear’s face was twisted as she tried not to burst out laughing. Her eyes sparkled like stars. She had needed many calculated slaps to cause psychological damage to those other idiots and get the same effect. But Darian and Niara exchanged just a few words, and that moron was almost exploding from the test’s pressure.
Not to mention that Darian only needed a single casual move to completely destroy his opponent.
Galteus took five full seconds to stand up, forcing himself to ignore all his anger. "So you really aren’t affected by the pressure here. If it wasn’t for that..."
"Please... will you drop dead if you stop bragging for one second? Even if you had an army of a thousand like you together, I’d still kill them all. Just get lost. I’m not going to bother killing you now, after all, I need a competent messenger. Go back and tell your race I need people with feathers that can exalt the beauty of these two here... I know it’s almost impossible for something at that level to exist, but you can all come at once. I’ll lower the requirements a bit and pick something minimally acceptable."
Darian said cynically, and that made Galteus’s eyes roll. His whole body trembled, and blood began leaking from all his pores, as if the pressure of the place was about to explode him into a bloody mist.
After Darian said that, Niara and Alear rushed forward and grabbed his arm. Then the three of them walked calmly, passing straight by Galteus without even giving him a second glance.
He struggled for several seconds, fighting not to explode. Once he managed to stabilize, he turned around and saw the barrier of the next test tremble.
His eyes almost popped. Only the three races of Heavenly Beasts could enter that place!
And even for them, crossing it was a huge test, requiring absurdly precise control over Qi. He himself felt it was nearly impossible, and maybe — with luck — he could manage it after a few more days before needing to leave.
But in the next second, the three of them moved, calmly crossing through.
"IMPOSSIBLE!!!" Galteus shouted, completely unhinged.
He jumped up in a hurry, pulled out a crystal, and activated it. In that instant, the Emperor of the race received his call, hearing a shocking report.
"Master, what can we do? Not even you can reach this place!" Galteus finished in disbelief, speaking to the Emperor.
He ran up to the barrier and, focusing all his power into his eyes, managed to clearly see the inside.
In there, upon reaching that point, the three’s bodies looked extremely heavy; every step they took made the ground tremble. It was like they were carrying the entire world on their shoulders.
Darian was calm, only activating a bit more power in his primordial physique. All this time in this universe, he had only used the simplest version of that physique, not even reaching a third of its true strength.
Niara and Alear, on the other hand, felt a bit pressured.
Both took a deep breath, and the dragon blood in their bodies started circulating rapidly. They were covered in scales, and all that terrifying pressure was completely nullified.
Alear had a mage-type blessing. But unlike all mages, her defensive power and close-quarters combat capability were actually even greater. She didn’t have any of the usual weaknesses of a mage.
She also fought without weapons; after all, she had two adoptive mothers teaching her this unarmed combat style. But unlike Niara, she had great precision, control, and intelligence, being able to unleash terrifying long-range strikes.
Meaning, Alear was more similar to Lucy in that aspect, but her core powers were more connected to Niara. In the end, she created a unique fighting style, very different from both.
After a few minutes, the three reached the immense skeleton lying on the ground.
It was gigantic, like a small city made of bones. That Primordial Beast didn’t have its name preserved, but the bones looked like they had wings, horns, and many other features; everything pointed to it being some kind of chimera, similar to the Enfield.
Darian observed it for a few seconds, then stepped forward, entering the city of bones.
Outside, Galteus was already surrounded by several powerful figures. They all came rushing to that planet with expressions full of hatred.
Seeing them inside, the Three-Eyed Ravens were furious. No other race had any chance of entering there.
That race knew about the existence of that terrifying Wyvern. When Runar came to this universe, he just didn’t attack the imperial planet of the Rainbow Cranes, probably out of pity.
But even that Wyvern didn’t come to this training planet. Because he knew the best rewards were exclusive to the three Heavenly Beasts. He wouldn’t even be able to enter that final test. And now a foreigner got in? That made no sense at all.
The Three-Eyed Raven knew there were two great treasures left by the divinities inside. Whoever arrived first would have a chance to take them. The race already considered those things theirs; it was only a matter of time before they managed to claim them.
In short, they felt a mix of hatred and confusion. The three shouldn’t have even been able to enter there.
The three walked calmly for a few meters. Until...
"!"
Suddenly, a dense energy burst in front of them. A huge shadow, black as ink, appeared. It took on a colossal bestial form.
**ROOAR!**
A terrifying roar echoed, making the entire planet shake, and everyone inside nearly fell to their knees in panic.
"Hahaha, die, ignorant human!"
The people of the Three-Eyed Raven race laughed. This was the curse left by the three divinities. Its power was terrifying, coming from the Primordial Beast itself.
Galteus knew this existed, and anyone targeted by it was doomed.
This was a very specific test, not meant for anyone to win. The people who managed to enter had to move while staying hidden, without being detected by that thing, and then reach the end.
But obviously, that foreigner couldn’t possibly know that. So the Three-Eyed Raven laughed excitedly, ready to watch his end.
