Damned Healer-Chapter 635: The Powerhouse Wife
Darian was surprised. He had pushed himself to the limit over the past few days, since he was very close to reaching his goal with the Sacred Treasure.
When Darian stepped outside, he saw Ailik, Niara, and Ramel waiting for him. Everyone rushed out of the mountain together. There, a golden carriage was waiting for them. Alaric stood beside it, with no one else around.
"Get in. The time for the second entrance has already passed. We need to hurry..."
The Golden Sky Mountain was divided into three regions: outer, inner, and central.
The opening itself was split into two major phases. The first was when everyone would be sent to the outer region.
The outer region was where the worst treasures were located, and the chances of finding anything decent were even lower, since it was the largest area of all. Because it was so vast, it would take months to reach the more internal areas. That was why only the weaker people chose to enter during the first opening.
The second and final opening sent everyone directly to the inner region. Because of Darian's delay, the City Lord postponed this second opening. However, no matter how much he tried, he couldn't delay it for more than a few hours.
Opening the Golden Sky Mountain was no simple task. It required careful preparation and a large amount of the Sacred Treasure's power used at the exact right moment to connect with the Void power inside. Once their energies merged in harmony, the ideal moment for the opening would appear.
They flew rapidly through the skies. From inside the carriage, they could see the entire city below. However, everyone was shocked by the deathly silence of the place. Aside from endless buildings, they couldn't see even a single person. Was this really the Devil's Fall City they knew?
"The Sacred Treasure will enter a weakened state after spending its core energy to open that place. Many people are worried about the upcoming battle, so they left," Alaric explained.
Anyone who feared death or was weak sensed the dangerous atmosphere in the city and fled. Those who believed themselves strong and wanted to enter the place went to the entrance instead, which was located outside the city.
The carriage shot forward, leaving the city behind.
The entrance was located in an isolated corner of the island, a region nicknamed the Death Mountain Range, since the Void power there was absurdly wild, and very few could even approach it safely.
"Sir Darian. Sorry, but I need to ask you for a big favor," Alaric said, turning toward Darian with a thoughtful look. He took a deep breath and handed him a tablet.
"Throughout all the openings of the Golden Sky Mountain, people from smaller outer islands always came, hoping to enter. But even when they had the money to pay for entry, they were terrified that other powers would rob or kill them if they found something good inside. Because of that, my Celsiel family always made an agreement with them, so they could enter, and the city could profit greatly from their payments."
"We guaranteed we would act as allies and support for them inside that place. We always sent members of our family in. So if unsupported groups ran into danger, they could activate our tablet. If a family member was nearby and able to help, we would. And even if we couldn't reach them, if they obtained something extremely valuable, they could sense where one of our family's tablets was and go ask that person for protection."
Darian took the tablet with a strange expression. In the last opening of the Golden Sky Mountain, the Celsiel family still had members besides Alaric. But now, only he remained, and there was no way for his family to support those people anymore.
"Of course, I'm not asking you to do this for free," Alaric said, waving his hand. A Jade Slip floated toward Darian. "Throughout history, members of my family have returned from that place with an 80% survival rate. Because of that, we've explored nearly two-thirds of the area and created a very detailed map of zones with major dangers and possible great treasures."
Darian's eyes lit up. That really was a good payment. He would lose some time helping people, but he would save a lot of time searching for treasures, since he'd know exactly where to go. The reward was knowing the locations of the best potential treasures.
"Alright. If I were nearby and saw something I didn't like… I'd probably get involved anyway. This map is worth any trouble," Darian said, nodding as he stored both items.
"Thank you. The clan masters can't enter, since they need to use their share of the Sacred Treasure's control to create the exit for everyone afterward. But they've sent all their best members. The Primordial Empire has also sent many people," Alaric continued.
"But you don't need to worry too much about the others in your group. The place where the corpse is located lies in the central region, which is extremely difficult to approach. Even if there are capable people, it would take them weeks to get close. Your allies will be able to see them from afar and prepare. You won't suffer any unexpected sneak attacks."
Darian nodded. His plan had already been shared with Alaric, and he would help them carry it out.
It was very simple. Darian would enter the place normally, but alone. Meanwhile, Niara, Ailik, and Ramel would be sent directly by the City Lord to where the headless corpse of the Nether Beasts was located.
Niara would act as security for the two of them. Ailik and Ramel, on the other hand, had to work together to steal that body as quickly as possible.
Darian, however, didn't choose to go alone because he wanted the treasures of the place, but because he wanted to keep an eye on the people from the four clans and the Primordial Empire. He and Awel would spy on them to ensure everything went smoothly. Of course, they wouldn't ignore treasures either, since they'd be passing close to them anyway.
At that moment, space trembled violently as the golden carriage tore through the Void. Soon after, they saw a mountain range shrouded behind a golden curtain.
Even from inside the carriage, they could feel an absurd density of Void power, along with a powerful aura of decay pouring out from the place. That land was soaked in the Yin of Death.
The final battle, where the Divine Nether Beast was defeated, had taken place there. An uncountable number of people had died in that spot, and the enemy's body was still almost intact inside.
Ailik took a deep breath, her expression a bit tense. The decay born from death in that place had the power to awaken the most primal fear in people's hearts. It felt as if bloodthirsty demons were hiding within it.
She was still very young and had only experienced small battles against weak Nether Beasts. Even Ramel remained calm, since he had already gone through far harsher situations. Darian and Niara, on the other hand, looked like they were heading to an amusement park.
This was the Golden Sky Mountain, an isolated place within the universe that had never seen the light of day. A tomb that buried almost an entire generation of the most powerful figures in this universe.
Just approaching it was already dangerous. It was a forbidden land, avoided by everyone. Yet today, the place was packed with people.
It looked like a massive anthill of influential figures from across the universe, all waiting for the second opening.
There were also many people from distant clans and sects who would not enter. They waited for their members to return, ready to protect them at the exit and prevent them from being robbed.
Inside that place lay an entire era of the dead, a battlefield buried across its vast expanse. Who could even imagine how many terrifying weapons and treasures were hidden deep within?
Killing to steal was extremely common there. Inside the place, the Celsiel family provided some support to the weaker ones. But outside, every small power had to fend for itself.
When the golden carriage representing the City Lord appeared, several impatient figures turned toward it.
"Alaric Celsiel, what are you playing at? The time has already passed!" Caofeng was the first to shout, furious.
"Shut up. Is your face itching for another slap if you go too long without spewing nonsense?" Niara mocked as she stepped out of the carriage.
"You—!" Caofeng was about to curse back, but a figure suddenly stepped in front of him.
Everyone froze when they saw her. She was a woman whose beauty was only surpassed by her arrogance. With a single glance, even the most naïve person could tell she believed herself above everyone else in the world.
She had long black hair. Tall and slender, she wore a crimson Combat Bodysuit that clung to her like a second skin, sculpting her generous curves with almost provocative precision. A dense, dangerous aura radiated from her, as if a starving beast were hibernating beneath her skin.
"So you're Darian? Good. I'll personally take your life."
Seeing that woman, Alaric took a deep breath, clearly shocked. He murmured, "She's at the ninth level of the Heaven Saint Realm and also… she's a Primordial Chosen."
His shock was understandable. Even though her cultivation was lower than his, without using the Supreme Treasure, Alaric couldn't defeat her.
"Oh? So the Empire just picks any random bitch to become a Primordial Chosen?" Niara said coldly.
At that moment, everyone from the Primordial Empire flew into a rage, murderous intent surging.
The woman's expression darkened, but she smiled sinisterly. "Haha… you think you're hot stuff, huh? Don't worry, your time will come. You killed my husband, so I'll make you pay a thousand times over. First, I'll personally capture your husband and make him suffer and agonize slowly. Then, I'll deal with you myself."
Darian heard that and snorted. Everyone there understood the situation.
She was the wife of that poor bastard who had come to the city months ago and had the guts to provoke Niara. Now, everyone finally understood why trash like him had such high status in the Empire: his wife was a Primordial Chosen.
Why the hell did that woman agree to marry a harasser like him? Not even Heaven's Will could explain that. Still, he had taken full advantage of her status to get whatever he wanted.
Now, that woman believed Niara was the powerhouse of the couple, while Darian was just someone riding on his wife's protection. That was why she decided to take revenge by targeting Darian first. Niara killed her husband, so she would do the same—starting with him.
*Buzz!*
Suddenly, the space behind Alaric twisted, forming a spatial portal that slowly opened, revealing an ancient city inside. That city was the City of the Heaven Seal.
"Get ready. The Sacred Treasure is about to open the Golden Sky Mountain for the last time," Alaric announced loudly.
Then he waved his hand, and part of his power connected to Niara, Ailik, and Ramel.
*Rumble!*
A beam of light suddenly shot out from the City of the Heaven Seal, passed through the spatial portal, and slammed into the entrance of that place, tearing it open by force.
"Go!" Alaric shouted, using his own power to hurl the three of them straight toward the hole in the barrier.
They were the first to enter, and thanks to the City Lord, they weren't sent to the outer region, but directly to the central region, where the corpse was located.
