Death Mage with an SS-Rank Talent-Chapter 243
Chapter 243: Chapter 243
The skies turned dark, and as they did, the mist started to appear on the horizon. Slowly, it spread and eventually covered the Duskmist City.
The mist is a bit mysterious.
Unlike the mist that appears in and around the Mist City, which offers protection from monster invasion, this has no such function. If there was a function for its appearance, it was something they had yet to find.
Many tried to find the purpose of the mist and even the source, but that evaded them for years. When one thought that the mist came from one direction, the next time, it came from a different direction. It was like the mist was playing with the explorers.
No one could find out, and as long as the mist was not something that could cause damage to the people and cities in the region, the higher-ups felt no reason to waste resources on something elusive like that.
Maybe in the future, they felt the mystery could be solved, but at present, they ignored that and instead concentrated on topics that were easier to decipher, which could help the alliance at present.
For now, the mist remained a mystery, which was about to get even more mysterious, and would attract the alliance’s attention once again, even more than before.
---
Aaron left the city at noon and ventured into the forest in the direction from which he felt the tugging feeling. Though that feeling was absent at this point, with his perception, he knew the general direction and how far away from which this feeling appeared.
Though he couldn’t pinpoint that while in the city, he was sure that when the mist appeared at night, he would locate it perfectly.
Unlike others who fumbled on finding the source, that wasn’t the case for Aaron. Though he had no idea what was causing the mist, and why, he felt that the equipment that went with his ring was hidden somewhere in the mist.
Though he has no idea of the relationship between the mist and the equipment, he could understand that the item was using the mist in some way to contact him.
He may not think about what the relationship between them was, but he was sure that when he found the source, he would unlock the mystery behind that.
So, he didn’t think about that much and proceeded on his way, only stopping when he faced monsters that thought he was an easy prey.
These areas are cleared by adventurers regularly. So, there are no powerful monsters present here and the ones that are present posed no danger to him, even with him not using any of his undead army.
He cleared them using his own skills and attributes.
---
After reaching the estimated general location, Aaron rested for a while because he had no idea where to go from there.
This was only until dusk came. Then the tugging feeling that he felt every night in the past few days returned. The feeling was even more than it usually was, which means he was closer to whatever was calling him.
Following the tugging sensation, he soon arrived at what appeared to be a cave. It was empty, at least that’s what his senses said.
He had faced a few monsters before arriving here, but the cave was empty. There was not even a shred of life inside. It was almost like life is afraid of sprouting there, but that was not something Aaron could understand at this time.
He summoned ghosts, instead of skeletons. Skeletons are noisy when they move, while ghosts don’t make such noises when moving around. He needs stealth now. A calm place in an area like this would be the most dangerous place.
He first sent a few ghosts into the cave, and after a few minutes, seeing that nothing happened, he entered the cave as well.
There is nothing present here, just as he felt through his high perception. Though he trusted his perception, he learned that there are skills and items that can block perception. So, even if he sensed that, he had to verify that indeed it was the case.
There are a few glowing rocks that lit the cave, which led him into a tunnel, which led to a much bigger cave.
Inside that cave, there was a huge rock with a flat surface.
Lying on that flat surface was a small box. When his eyes landed on the box, Aaron felt that this was why he is here, but he didn’t approach it like a stupid person.
Where there are treasures, there are dangers. There is nothing called Free, it is just an illusion. Everything has a price, which would be extracted in one way or another.
Aaron approached the box slowly, fearing something might strike him suddenly, but nothing of the sort happened even after he took the box into his hands.
"Maybe something bad happens", he thought as he opened the box, looking around to see any dangers appear out of thin air.
"Well, that’s a bit anti-climactic", he muttered, but his thoughts quickly shifted to the contents of the box.
"Hmm, it’s a necklace. It looks like a common one, like the ring used to deceive others. Let’s check the necklace to see what it was exactly", Aaron muttered as he used his Analysis Skill.
--
Name: Death Illusion Pendant (2/8)
Type: Necklace
Bound: Aaron Skyhart
Ability: Death Mist - [Increases the strength of the undead by 5% when they are covered by the mist.]
Status: Degraded (Recoverable)
Set Bonus: None
--
Seeing the necklace’s details, Aaron smiled, "Just as I expected, it might look common, but most likely due to its degraded status, or someone might have covered that up. The mist that appears here might have to do with this necklace. The best part is its ability".
"The ring would give me a boost of +5% to all my Death Skills, but this necklace can improve the strength of my undead as long as they stay in the mist, and the increase was +5% similar to the ring".
"This was what I got from them now, but from the description, it can be seen that it can be repaired. When that comes true, the increase provided by the ring and the necklace would be quite high".
"Aah, there are so many things to do. I need to find those ruins that were informed by the senior ghost from the Undead Ruins in the academy. I also need to find if there was a way to get to Rank-7, without killing myself".
"Now, not only do I have to find the set, but I also have to find a way to repair it. There is tooo much to do, so little time", Aaron couldn’t help but sigh, thinking about the things that he had to do in his future.
"Now, let’s wear the necklace", Aaron thought and took it out of the box.
It was when he saw that the mist started to thin little by little. The difference was so minute, but he could see that the mist was starting to disappear.
"Aah, it looks like people would come and search the area. It’s time to disappear as soon as possible", Aaron thought and disappeared from the area, but not before replacing his old necklace with this one.
