Demon CEO's Hidden Love: Mr Grayson Stole Me From My Abusive Husband-Chapter 227: Some Sort Of Underlying Connection
Chapter 227: Some Sort Of Underlying Connection
"You are making a mistake! I’m not the one who poisoned Mr Grayson!" Hannah yelled as the maids tied her arms behind her to the chair sitting at the middle of the basement.
A maid sneered, "You were caught red handed and you still deny it?" She raised her hand and cracked it down on Hannah’s face.
Her cohort grinned, "Serves you right, Mrs Grayson has been nothing but kind to you, but here you are trying to murder her husband."
Hannah rolled her tongue around her mouth, the pain from getting hit spread across her jaw.
"Get Mrs Grayson, bring her here and I’ll explain everything-"
"I’m afraid that won’t be happening, Hannah." Gilbert announced, cutting her off. At his arrival, the maids stood next to each other and lowered their heads.
"Sir, we’ve done as you instructed, but this woman won’t admit to harming master Grayson. What do we do?" One of the maids with a taller frame and blonde hair asked. She was the one who had slapped Hannah, and the assistant head of staff.
"I’ll handle her myself." He said, rolling his sleeves up to his elbow.
Hannah’s eyes widened at the veins plastered on both his arms, she had seen him almost always in his work clothes which were a size larger.
She had completely forgotten that alongside being Mr Grayson’s assistant, Gilbert had undergone special training to be able to protect Thane from any danger.
To the blonde he said, "Get the driver to ready a car for me."
The maid nodded, "Yes, sir!" then left to carry out his bidding.
To the rest of the maids he had them exit the basement and guard the door instead, leaving just the both of them inside.
Hannah frowned, "Old man, I can’t believe you’d think I was behind this! Why would I ever do that to master Grayson?! He saved my life-"
Gilbert scoffed, "You say you’re loyal to Master Grayson, but you’re slipping those kinds of pills in his wife’s food!"
"I swear I didn’t! Yes, I did have them, but I never did anything. Have her examined, those results are fake, I just used them to fool Tara-"
Gilbert pinched her chin, and brought their gazes to meet, "The same way you’ve been fooling master Grayson all this while? How do you expect me to believe you’re loyal to him when you clearly still have feelings for Matthew?!" he tightened his grip on her chin, pulling back on her lower lip.
Hannah narrowed her eyes, "That and this are two different things!"
"They clearly aren’t! You were willing to help Matthew dupe all those people in the past. You also knew when they were younger he witnessed the attempt on master Grayson’s life and said nothing!"
He leaned in, until their faces were just inches apart, "You let your feelings for him cloud your judgement once again." He accused, anger seeping out of his voice.
For a brief minute, they were both silent, staring into each other’s eyes, until Hannah shook off his grip and looked away. "We aren’t going anywhere this way. The person who harmed master Grayson is taking advantage of the chaos and hiding. We can’t let them fool Mrs Grayson! Let me see her-" her words were cut off by the return of the maid.
"The car has been readied sir." She announced.
Gilbert nodded, "Stay here and make sure she doesn’t escape." he turned around and made for the exit.
The maid grinned, reaching for Hannah’s hair, taking a fistful of it, she said, "Don’t worry, I’ll do whatever I can to make her confess."
Hannah glared harshly. "Where the hell are you going?" She yelled as he walked away, "Master Grayson is dying and you’re leaving the mansion?!-"
"You shut your mouth!" The maid snapped at her, yanking hard on her hair.
Gilbert stopped in his tracks, Hannah’s eyes lit up for a brief second, but her countenance fell when she heard the basement door slam after him!
The maid left with her pulled her by the hair, bringing their eyes to meet, "It’s just you, and me, and this basement filled with all sorts of things." Her eyes danced around the room, which stored a plethora of items, reiterating her point.
"If I were you, I’d confess where you hid the pills you laced in the young masters medication!" She threatened, tightening her grip, causing Hannah to clench her muscles in agonizing pain...
Brooke? Why was the old man in front of him asking about her! Ethan couldn’t deny he was shocked, however he regained his composure and answered, "Who are you talking about?" He asked nonchalantly.
Julian remained stoic, "You don’t know Brooke at all?"
"No, now if you’ll excuse me I have an appointment to attend-"
"But she interned at your company a while back. She worked as your personal assistant for a whole year, if I’m not mistaken." He inserted, his tone calm yet inciting.
Ethan rolled his eyes, "You don’t expect me to remember all my assistants, now do you? She was one of many, I don’t remember even remember the color of the shirt I had on yesterday."
Julian chuckled, "Are young people these days so inept? You make an old geezer feel competent hearing you."
Ethan dug his fingers into his seat, "Is that so, old man?" His eyes followed Julian’s hands, which were busy fiddling and office pen.
"Ah, don’t take my words to heart, I just found it strange, Mr Halton." Julian said, dropping the pen on the table.
A silence followed.
Explaining himself he said, "How odd is it? Barely a week after Brooke finished interning for your company, you announce Cassie as your company’s ambassador. I wonder if there’s some sort of connection." he raised his gaze from the table and pointed it at Ethan.
"That is a baseless coincidence-"
"Is it? Considering Brooke and Cassie’s relationship, and your relationship with Cassie, I’d say that you must know more than you’re letting on." Julian suggested.
Pinching his chin, mimicking deep thinking he asked, "Though, I’m not sure why you’d hide your connection to Brooke. Tell me, is there something you’re trying to to hide Mr Halton?"
