Demon Prince's Forsaken Bride-Chapter 80: Something is amiss (3)
As the wall in front of them collapsed, a gasp escaped Lareinaβs mouth as a burst of fire shot towards them.
Azrael held her tightly and dodged to the side but the firestick grazed past his arm, slicing his sleeve down. π³ππ²ππ¨ππ―πππ§ππΉ.π°πΌπ
Lareina had just managed to recover from her shock when a garish sight entered her eyes. As Azraelβs sleeve rolled down, she saw the deep wounds that marred his hand from his elbow to wrist. They seemed to have been caused by dagger and some places looked like holes, ββWhat...ββ
Lareina pushed him off her as she fell back to the ground but he caught her in time and pulled her up.
ββDonβt be scared. I will protect you.ββ
Lareina looked at the man who was glancing down with her sincerely and suddenly, all her unspoken words were shoved back inside her throat.
Screams erupted around the house and in front of the broken wall, a huge crowd slowly gathered. Some had their arms raised as they shot firesticks at them while others were engaged in a brawl with each other.
And most important of it all was the fact that...
"Your Highness! These people are none other than the villagers!ββ Astraβs livid voice reverberated in the air as she pushed off a horde of men that had pressed her down, sending them flying.
...they were not ghosts. But rather, these were all common people who seemed to be possessed by something.
As they rushed towards them, Azrael pushed Lareina behind her. But just as he raised his hand to attack, Lareina grabbed his sleeve with a strong force.
ββThey are commoners. If you harm them, you would be punished,ββ The demon lord sent his people to look after his subjects and solve their crisis. The person he sent was even the prince of the demon realm who was revered as the great war god. But now, this person went rampant and killed the subjects.
These words would warrant Azraelβs death just in a matter of a few moments. And as much as Lareina did not want to think that way, she had a feeling that the demon lord was well aware of these consequences Azrael might face when he chose the man for this mission.
ββYour Highness, do something! They are approaching us...ββ Lareina looked at Azrael, ββIf I die here, things would not look much better for you...ββ
Azraelβs lips twitched as he watched her βWhatever you do, save me firstβ face fawning all over him. As he watched the villagers running towards them, he waved his hand again and a strong force pushed them down to the ground.
ββYour Highness, did you think of something yet?"
Under Lareinaβs eager gaze, Azrael nodded.
Lareinaβs eyes sparkled, ββWhat is it?"
ββRun,ββ Then without giving her a chance, he wrapped his arm around her waist and with swift footwork, he jumped out of the broken wall.
ββYour Highness, what do we do now?" Astra dealt with another batch of villagers and looked towards them when they passed by her.
ββRun,ββ Azrael did not pause before shooting up to a roof.
Lareinaβs lips twitched at his cool command but then she saw Astra abandoning everything and running away in the opposite direction as if her life depended on it.
One person was missing from the scene but Lareina assumed that Astra must have put the unconscious Moira in some secluded place. However, what surprised her a little was that not once did Azrael look for Moira.
Suddenly, Azraelβs footsteps came to a halt.
Lareinaβs face crashed into his back. She flinched, ββWhat are you...ββ Her words were stuck in her throat when she stepped to the side.
While some of the villagers were out to attack them, there were some who had been entangled in a fight with each other. On the opposite alley, Lareina watched as a man fiercely grabbed a teenage boyβs twisted arm as he feasted on his flesh.
Suddenly, those faint crunching sounds seemed to have been suddenly magnified. Lareina watched small pieces of bones falling on the ground which were immediately coated in a layer of sand that blew over in the wind. The boyβs head that was barely attached to his neck rolled off when the man dug into his neck.
Lareinaβs stomach churned and her body trembled. She hastily turned away from the scene but in the process, she lost her balance and fell off the roof.
The movements attracted some of the possessed villagers who stood on the ground with their arms stretched and mouths open. Watching Azrael standing on the roof with his back facing her, Lareina closed her eyes as sharp claw-like hands clutched her arm.
Suddenly, something cold touched her back. One moment, she was pulled down to the ground by the demons and the next moment, she felt herself floating in air as the cool breeze caressed her skin.
When Lareina opened her eyes, she saw that Azrael was facing her now, but he was still in the room. What carried her off the ground was... Azraelβs sword.
The ice sword had enlarged in size and runes and patterns that were invisible before were starkly visible to the naked eye. It seemed to tremble a little when Lareina stroked it out of curiosity.
However, her attention was quickly averted when several houses burst up in flames. The roof where Azrael was standing was covered with demons. Half of them were reaching out to him while more demons surrounded the house, some grabbing pillars to climb through.
Lareina looked at Azrael who stood amidst the crowd of demons, completely weaponless, ββBring me there,ββ she waved at the man but he had already looked away from her.
Suddenly, the man moved. He made a hand gesture and the sword started flying away from the village.
Lareina was immediately on guard when Azrael pressed his hand together and a darkness descended around him. ββNo!" She screamed, but neither the man nor his sword paid attention to anything she said, ββNo, you cannot...ββ

Lareina did not know why but seeing him like this, she had a bad feeling. He looked like he was not himself. The air around him was extremely powerful and ruthless... as if he would annihilate the entire village without a momentβs consideration. As his powers condensed more and more, all she could see was a silhouette.
Lareina looked down from the sword and glanced at the man. She clenched her fists and gritted her teeth before jumping down the sword.
The cloud around Azrael dispersed and his body jerked. With a wave of his hand, he jerked off the demons that had surrounded him.
And before Lareina could fall on the ground, the sword swiftly caught her. From afar, the weapon that had always looked so vicious and sharp seemed to feel like a pillow under her.
And as Lareina watched its trembling hilt, she did not know why she felt like this sword was very much like a living person. Gasping for breath, she stroked it a little, ββThank you,ββ And the swordβs hilt seemed to perk up like an excited dogβs ears.
When Lareina looked up at Azrael, the man had already jumped off the high roof, surrounded by the demons on the ground till he was barely visible. The roof where he was standing earlier was empty as the villagers had all pounced down to attack him.
ββTake me there,ββ Lareina patted the hilt of the sword, pointing at the tiled roof where she had been standing earlier.
And the sword cut through the air with a βswooshβ. In no time, Lareina was standing on the roof while the sword laid idly by her side. From there, she got a clear view of Azrael as he tackled the villagers. But when he tackled four without hurting them, eight seemed to climb up on him.
ββAzrael!" Lareina cupped her palms around her mouth.
In the crowd, he seemed to have turned to look in her direction. ββThey attack with fire and the river is in ruins!" She screamed at the top of her lungs but when she opened her eyes, she realized that the man had long looked away from her.
She doubted that he heard her. Suddenly, the sword lying by her side moved.
With a swoosh, it returned to its original form and rose to the sky and in the next moment, it shot down. Piercing through the dry soil, it disappeared from plain sight.
ββAhhhh!" Heart-rending screams reverberated in the village suddenly when water burst forth from the spot where the sword had dug into. Like a fountain, it erupted initially and suddenly, it seemed to rain in the entire place.
While the villagers screamed like they were in a lot of pain, there was no physical injury on them and that relieved Lareina.
ββAre you fine?" A whisper sounded in her ear.
At some point, Azrael had disappeared from the crowd and appeared behind her.
Lareina nodded slowly as she examined him. The man was covered in wounds from head to toe. There were some deep gashes. His fake scars had fallen off from his face and they were replaced by some deep cuts.
ββLetβs leave this place first...ββ Lareina instinctively grabbed his hand.
Azrael gazed at their intertwined fingers.
ββDonβt let me fall again...ββ she added.
He let out a sigh and moved swiftly. In a few moments, they were already at a distance from the chaotic scene.
But suddenly...
ββWhatβs the rush?"
...
