Demon Prince's Forsaken Bride-Chapter 81: Assassination (1)
They had made it to a little distance from the scene when three men blocked their path.
"What’s the rush?" The one who stepped forward seemed to be their leader.
Lareina was no expert in judging experts but she knew one when she saw one. The man in front gave her a similar feeling to that of Rune, if not superior.
Azrael placed a hand behind his back and glanced at the three men nonchalantly, ’’I am having a busy night, gentlemen. You should fine me another day for your own sake.’’
’’Since when did the great second prince become so long winded?" The man in the lead burst out in laughter, ’’We are by no measures gentlemen.’’
Azrael’s lips curved up in a cold smile, ’’You would be one if you don’t ruin our night.’’
’’Your Highness, you should blame yourself for provoking the wrong person!" As the man spoke, he had already jumped in the air.
Out of nowhere, a cold blade slashed through. When Lareina looked down, a muddy looking sword was being held in Azrael’s grip.
Lareina slowly stepped back and looked behind her. To her surprise, all the villagers who were running rampant earlier had dropped to the ground, drenched in water. They were visibly unconscious.
’Clang’
Swords clashed and Azrael was entangled in a fierce battle with the two of the assassins. The one who seemed to be the leader had stepped back after initiating the attack.
As minutes trickled by, Lareina realized that both the sides seemed to be on the same level. Azrael was using his sword and employing crisp moves against the assassins. But there was something amiss.
Unlike the assassins whose weapons were blazing with demonic power with each move that executed, Azrael’s ice sword seemed to have gone dull, having taken a mud bath. It was different from all the times Lareina had seen Azrael in a battle.
In the forests, in the ghost market, on their way here... Azrael’s moves had always emanated his powers that would terrify one from a distance. That ice sword had always sparkled with a blinding light but right now, it seemed like both the sword and its master were unusually different...
At first, a wild notion formed in her head but after a while, she suddenly realized that the man was not using his powers at all.
Just when those two assassins overpowered Azrael, Lareina finally saw a change in Azrael’s stance. His attacks got sharper and ruthless as if he wanted nothing more than to slash them down with each move.
One of the assassins was taken down. His entire body swerved with a huge force before hitting against the wall.
The leader of the assassins watched the battle calmly. After a while, the man’s gaze shifted towards her. With slow, steady footsteps, he approached her.
’’Thank you, gentleman,’’ Lareina bowed to the man gratefully when he stood in front of her.
The man halted in his tracks, visibly dumbstruck.
Azrael, who was locked in a fierce battle, felt his eyes twitching violently.
’’You...’’ The leader of the assassins squinted his eyes as he examined Lareina, ’’Why are you thanking me?"
"Because you saved me from that bandit over there,’’ She pointed her chin towards Azrael, ’’I am just an ordinary woman with no strength or power and this lustful barbarian abducted me for my looks.’’
The leader of the assassins was in a dilemma. The woman in front of him spoke with an accent familiar to that of the locals mostly, ’’Don’t you know who he is? And...’’ he scanned her from head to toe, ’’How can he lust over you? It is rumored that his wife is one of the most beautiful women in both realms!"
Even though the woman in front of him was beautiful, perhaps, it was untidy appearance that made her resemble a mess. She was completely not the kind of rare beauty that the second prince is usually associated with.
’’Hah~ You addressed him as some prince this that whatever but you tell me, which prince looks like a starving beggar? Brothers, I say, you have gotten the wrong man. The prince you speak of, must be out on some leisurely trip with his wife or mistress, or both.’’
The man frowned.
’’And what do you mean how could he lust over me? Even if he is really a prince, and he has a beautiful wife, I am also the most beautiful woman in my village. That is why I could not escape the clutches of this vile creature... But regardless of anything, you saved me from this beast tonight so I must thank you.’’
Azrael almost missed a step when he heard those words. The masked assassin he was fighting with was dead exhausted but seeing his clumsiness, he was immediately invigorated, thinkin that he had finally managed to break past the war god’s defenses. In a few moments, this man would certainly give up! With that thought, he started fighting more fiercely.
Hearing her words, the leader of assassins couldn’t help but think about it. The second prince has always been entangled with a beautiful woman but the information about his relationships have been vague. His relationship with his human wife was renowned as one filled with bitterness and hatred. And the new alluring demoness he had brought back with him could not also gain a title from him.
The leader of assassins looked at the woman in front of him. Her hair resembled a hair’s nest and her face was peppered with freckles and moles. But despite that, her features were rather striking and she had a delicateness to her. Perhaps... She was his type? 𝑓𝑟𝑒𝘦𝓌𝑒𝑏𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝘭.𝒸𝘰𝑚
Thinking of that, he stepped away from Lareina and turned to Azrael, ’’His Highness the Second Prince neither favored his wife nor concubines but abducted such pretty small village girls. Hahaha! What a pity that you have to die here today.’’
"But don’t worry...’’ Speaking of that, the man turned to Lareina, ’’So what if you die here today? We will have our fair share of fun... eh?" Suddenly, his eyes narrowed.
