Demonic Skeleton God-Chapter 124: Poison Layer
Chapter 124: Poison Layer
Flain arrived at the Magic lecture. Professor Sora first asked how many of her students were mages and how many were warriors. That was because warriors from the higher classes used some graceful mana spells, as the limitation of techniques could be compensated with them.
In contrast, mages don’t use techniques at all, since they don’t fight in close combat — and even if they did, they wouldn’t last long, even with a shield. That’s why no mage attends Steel Strength.
Together with Flain, there were 4 warriors in the class, and the rest were mages. Then the professor wanted to see everyone’s collection of poison spells. When it was Flain’s turn, he was the only one who didn’t show anything, so she directly gave him one.
It was a green book bound with golden threads.
Then she went to each student and gave them a spell as well. She said that she had given each student a spell they were missing.
She explained how spells are best learned and told them to start studying the one they received. If someone didn’t understand something, they were welcome to ask her.
Next, she explained that learning a spell of your Stage takes approximately 3 weeks. This caught Flain’s attention, because Itai had learned Ice Spikes in just one week, and that was a spell above his Stage — but it was true that he had dedicated all his free time to it, and he was also quite talented in magic. Aran had learned Ice Spikes in two weeks, so Flain assumed Aran also had some magic talent.
Flain smirked because he didn’t have to study anything — he just needed to spend a few EXP to learn it.
[Automatic skill learning: 50,000 XP]
[Yes | No]
This cost much more than Ice Spikes, so Flain assumed it was a Stage 3 spell, which pleased him greatly. Flain didn’t know how long it would take him to learn it normally, but if it would really take 3 weeks, he’d rather just spend the 50,000 EXP.
Flain clicked Yes.
[You have automatically learned the skill: Poison Layer]
[Name: Poison Layer
Level: 1
Stage: 3
Type: Poison Spell
Consumption: 200MP/s
Description: A layer of poison appears on the user’s hands and can be transferred onto anything. The size of the layer depends on how skilled the user is in Poison Layer. Anyone who touches the poison layer — including the user — will take poison damage for 1 minute (does not stack). If the poison gets into someone’s bloodstream, the damage is doubled.
Next level: Fight, train with this skill or 200,000 EXP]
When Flain read this, his happiness about coming to the Academy instantly grew. This spell was perfect — Flain could place the layer on his sword and only needed to slash once for the target to start taking strong poison damage.
The only downside was that it consumed quite a lot of mana for Flain, and he could maintain it for a maximum of 3 seconds, so he considered investing some bonus points into Intelligence. The fact that it affected the user too didn’t matter to Flain at all — he was a skeleton, so poison had no effect on him.
All the students were looking into their books, so Flain pretended to read his too and that he was learning the spell. Because he had no way to explain that he had learned it in a few seconds. freёweɓnovel_com
Flain spent the rest of the class reading the book even though he had long since learned the spell from it. It was quite interesting, and there were quite a few things in it that Flain didn’t understand, but he guessed that over time he would.
The magic lecture ended, and Flain decided to give the book to Aran so he could learn it because he would make better use of it for his spear than Ivy. It also just now occurred to Flain that he could give Ivy the Ice Spikes spell so he could learn it. But he could only give it to them in a week, since letting them learn it in Flain’s room was too risky.
The next lecture was combat Rune Magic. Professor Eryndor Aureli explained what a rune circle is made of. The foundation of a rune circle is the core, onto which the individual layers are then drawn. There are 5 basic types of cores:
Primal core – the most basic core used by beginners in Rune Magic. By itself it does nothing upon activation but stabilizes all the layers in the Rune circle. It requires little mana and is maximally stable.
Solar core – concentrates heat and light; upon activation it explodes in a radiant blast. Requires a lot of mana to activate and is moderately stable.
Lunar core – releases cold, dampening energy; suitable for freezing effects. It is very stable but needs more mana.
Ethereal core – a pure stream of infinite mana; flexible, but prone to bursting. This is the strongest core. It needs an enormous amount of mana to activate and is not very stable.
Elemental core – combines basic elements (fire, water, earth, air) into a single harmonious whole. Requires less mana but is quite unstable.
Layers were drawn on the core that would add some effect or modify other effects. The types of layers are:
Supportive layers that optimize the Rune circle. Effect layers that add an effect of the given ability in the Rune circle. And lastly, Expansive layers that add a certain effect, for example, a barrier appears around the rune circle.
Each core can withstand a different number of Expansive layers. The least is the Lunar core which can handle only 2, and the most is the one that can handle up to 5.
Eryndor spent the rest of the class explaining the limits in detail so that every student would be clear on what could be created with Rune Magic.
The class ended, and Flain returned to his room and began training. Rune Magic interested him quite a lot and would definitely be worth his time. If his assumption that rune circles wouldn’t break on his armor turned out to be true, it would make him significantly stronger. But there was still time for that; he would try it only once he was sure he could create a high-quality rune circle, because space on his armor was limited and wasting it would definitely not help Flain.
