Demonic Skeleton God-Chapter 62: I’m not a Spy
Chapter 62: I’m not a Spy
Zheren didn’t hesitate and stabbed his sword into the chameleon’s tongue, pinning it to the ground. From behind, the second chameleon’s tongue came flying at him and struck Zheren in the back.
Zheren pulled his sword out of the first chameleon’s tongue, freeing it, but then he immediately cut off the tongue, rendering the creature defenseless.
Zheren turned to the second chameleon, which jumped back from him and extended its tongue toward his leg, wrapping it around it. But Zheren threw away his sword, grabbed the chameleon’s tongue, and with all his strength hurled it against the dungeon wall.
The tongue around Zheren’s leg loosened, and he kicked forward with full force, which shattered the ice around his leg and freed him. The longer the chameleon’s tongue stayed wrapped around something, the stronger the ice it produced, so it was best to remove it immediately.
The first chameleon, now without a tongue, had no way to fight, so it tried to slam its head into Zheren’s back, but it didn’t work out, as Zheren pierced its neck. Zheren then walked over to the second chameleon, which was stunned by the wall, and finished it off.
Zheren’s fighting style had improved greatly, as he fought different types of enemies every day. He had also advanced to Advanced Stage 2.
"It’s already been two hours, time to go to the next dungeon," said Itai, because if they stayed longer than two hours, it would become a problem — the guards outside remembered who entered and when.
Zheren was placing the corpses into the spatial bag that Itai had bought at the Adventurers’ Guild. Zheren killed roughly 20 monsters in each dungeon, so Itai had two spatial bags.
Itai and Zheren left dungeon 5, passing through the same empty rooms that looked like regular rooms in a house. They gradually made their way upward until they reached the surface.
Outside, there was again a camp with various things being sold at stalls. There was also a stall where beer was sold, and nearby were benches.
On the benches sat adventurers who knew Itai well. "Hey Itai, hey there," one of them said.
Itai walked over to them and sat down. "Hey," he replied.
"So, was the hunt good?" one of them asked.
"It was alright, but I still have dungeon 15 ahead of me, so the real suffering is yet to come," said Itai.
"Itai, looks like you’ve reached Peak Stage 1," said another adventurer.
Itai had indeed advanced to Peak Stage 1, even though he trained only two hours a day and didn’t kill any monsters. Stage 1 improves overall quite quickly, and with Itai’s A-rank talent, it progresses even faster.
"And what about Zheren, doesn’t he want at least a drink since you don’t drink?" another asked.
"Ah, Zheren doesn’t drink either," said Itai.
"By the way, some adventurer at Stage 4 was asking about you — apparently he wants to join your group," said the first one.
"If you see him, tell him I’m not taking anyone," said Itai.
"Hmm, I’m not sure I entirely approve of your two-man strategy, especially without a supporter, but do as you think," said another adventurer.
"Well alright guys, I’m off to turn in the bodies, see you around," said Flain, and headed off from the camp.
Flain arrived at the Adventurers’ Guild and headed to the left, where he handed two spatial bags to the corpse collector.
A tall man with long gray hair approached Itai. His black eyes were fixed on him—it was, of course, Ing.
"The Overseer has sent a request for a meeting," said Ing.
Itai already knew who the Overseer was, since he hadn’t become an adventurer just yesterday. Naturally, he learned about her from other adventurers—they talked about all sorts of things, so the subject of the Overseer had come up as well.
Apparently, she never leaves her office because she spends all her time training, so only those who’ve been in her office have seen her. Itai also learned that her assistant, Arila, is her younger sister, so he could already imagine what kind of person the Overseer was likely to be.
Itai was debating whether to accept or not—maybe she had discovered something about them wiping out that village or about him being a necromancer.
But Itai wasn’t exactly paranoid like Flain, so he didn’t even consider the possibility that she might be planning to beat him up or do something equally bad.
"Alright, I accept. When will the meeting be?" asked Itai.
"That’s up to you. If you want, it can be right now," said Ing.
"Ah, alright, I can go now," said Itai.
"Please follow me," replied Ing.
Itai and Ing walked through a door marked for employees only and climbed to the topmost floor. Now the two of them stood in front of the Overseer’s office.
"Don’t we need to announce that the meeting is happening now?" asked Itai.
"No need, the Overseer can feel your magical energy, so she knows you’re here," said Ing.
"Ah, alright," said Itai and stepped inside.
Itai entered a rectangular room. On the other side sat the Overseer. He walked across the red carpet toward her.
"Sit down," said the Overseer coldly.
Itai sat down and then asked, "Why did you call me?"
The Overseer’s icy eyes pierced into Itai. "I’ll be honest with you. I suspect you’re a spy from another faction, and the Empire of Light most likely thinks the same. But at the same time, I don’t want to believe you’re a spy," she said.
Itai blinked a few times, processing what he had just heard. "I’m not a spy," he said at last.
"I don’t think you are either, because if a faction really sent a spy, why would they send someone with A-rank talent? That would be way too suspicious," said the Overseer.
"If I may ask, then why did you call me if you don’t believe I’m a spy?" asked Itai.
"I just wanted answers to a few inconsistencies. Why did you choose your main part to be the brain and at the same time pick rogue as your class?" the Overseer asked.
Itai had absolutely no idea what to say. "Well, my main part is the brain, but just barely ahead of the body, because I learned to train mentally before I trained physically," he said at last.
The Overseer’s cold eyes locked onto Itai’s red ones. "Hit me with all your strength, with your fist," she said...
