Chapter 78: Swift Cascade and Harur

A system window popped up in front of Flain with his new Stage 3 technique.

[Name: Swift Cascade

Level: 1

Stage: 3

Type: Melee Technique

Consumption: 550 EN

Description: Swift Cascade unleashes a cascading storm of slashes that track the enemy’s movements. Each successful hit increases the speed and precision of slashes, and if the user manages to hit the enemy more than 30 times, the duration of Swift Cascade is slightly extended. While Swift Cascade is active, it provides medium resistance against disorienting effects and significantly improves spatial awareness, allowing for brief predictive dodging of attacks. If no enemy is hit for longer than 1 second, Swift Cascade immediately cancels. After Swift Cascade ends, the user suffers from mild disorientation for 1.5 seconds, slightly reducing reaction speed and evasive ability.

Next level: Fight, train with this skill or 200,000 EXP]

Flain could celebrate even more; this was even better than Swift Flurry, and that was saying something. 550 EN was quite expensive for Flain, but it was understandable because he was only at the beginning of Stage 3.

The debuff after ending was mitigated, which was great, and additional features were added, such as extending Swift Cascade’s duration slightly if Flain managed to hit someone more than 30 times during its effect.

Flain would have loved to fight and test his new strength already, but he still had to learn how to fight with his new third weapon, his tail. Because he had never fought with it before, and training without preparation would have been pointless.

Anyway, Flain planned to stay here for at least another month because he wanted to complete his first spell before leaving. Even though it would only be a Stage 1 spell and Flain couldn’t evolve it to Stage 2 just by gaining EXP, it would still be quite useful.

----

Two days passed. In the meantime, Flain had been training and creating his spell.

He didn’t progress much in spell creation because two days are nothing for a Spell Master.

But in learning how to fight with his tail, he had made some decent progress. He could already fight passably with it, although it still wasn’t nearly good enough for him, he could at least use it a bit.

Anyway, he was only fighting against impulses for now, so in the near future he planned frequent sparring sessions with Aran, because with his Advanced Stage 2 he was ideal.

Now Flain, Itai, and Flor were in Flain’s basement. Flor had called them for a meeting.

"I have a gift for you. A Night Communicator, the same model that Itai has, so I assume you know how to handle it," said Flor and handed it to Flain.

Then Flain connected with Flor and Itai so that they would have each other in their contacts and could combine remotely.

"Alright, as you might have noticed, I brought the corpses of those two monsters as I promised," said Flor and pointed to two dead bodies beside him.

The first monster is a skeleton of a large snake humanoid that had a long tail instead of legs. This monster’s body was at Novice Stage 3.

The second monster is a large skeleton of a creature that looked like a dog, with long sharp teeth and two tusks protruding from its mouth. This monster was at Mid Stage 4.

"Most monsters are immediately processed into material, so finding some intact ones was quite difficult. I killed the first one myself a while ago, and I bought the other one," said Flor, who, as usual, had a good mood on his throne and a charismatic smile on his face.

Itai walked up to the first corpse and began to resurrect it. On his right hand, where he wore a glove, black flames appeared. The monster’s bones started trembling slightly but immediately fell back to the ground.

"It will take a while," said Itai.

The 55th attempt was successful, the bones stacked themselves together and formed a standing skeleton. Then the skeleton’s body began to change.

Its body became translucent and took on a foggy form. Pale blue mist flowed from its legs. At the same time, its snake-like eyes darkened and emitted black light, and after a moment, a black aura appeared on its palms as well.

’Probably an evolved version of a Bone Ghost,’ thought Flain.

"So now I have confirmed that you can resurrect undead one Stage above you, that’s amazing," said Flor enthusiastically.

"Please name me, master," said the snake man.

"Your name is Harur," said Itai after a moment. The name had no deeper meaning behind it, it just came to him.

"What abilities do you have?" asked Flor to Harur.

"Master, may I tell him? I remember this one killed me in my previous life," asked Harur, his black eyes observing Flor.

"You may," said Itai.

"Well, I have the ability to become intangible for a while, and my second ability is that I can shoot that black thing from my hands," said Harur.

"Test it on me," said Flor.

"Alright, as you wish," said Harur, and there was a hint of joy in his voice.

Harur extended his hand, and from it shot a black aura in the shape of his palm, flying toward Flor. In Flor’s hands, his familiar silver saber appeared. Flor blocked the attack, but it pushed him slightly backward.

"Pretty good anyway. Itai, move to the body of the Stage 4 monster," said Flor with a smile.

Itai approached the body, and black flames appeared on his right hand, but as everyone expected, the first attempt failed.

[Your master cannot resurrect this corpse as undeath because it is 2 Stages above him.]

Flain knew that Itai could resurrect corpses above his Stage because he had resurrected Zheten, who was at Stage 3, even when Itai was still at Stage 1. However, it only applied to one Stage above him.

"You don’t even need to try, you can only resurrect up to 1 Stage above you," said Flain.

"Hmh, that’s a shame. But it’s still unique that you can resurrect someone above your Stage," said Flor, his smile unchanged...
