Chapter 86: Eran Girflodor

"To the airship that will take us to the academy," answered Flor.

Flain used the Necklace of Deception to change his appearance to that of a tall young man with short black hair and red eyes. He deliberately did it to look similar to Itai because he was supposed to be his half-brother.

Since his human body was only an illusion, anyone who touched him would feel the cold of his armor. So Flain would avoid shaking hands and similar things.

Flain did it in such a way that he essentially transformed his body along with the armor into human body, so the bonuses from the armor remained.

In any case, Flain still wore a hood because the illusion from the Necklace of Deception only worked within 4 kilometers, and if someone saw him from beyond that distance, they wouldn’t see him as a student of the academy.

That’s because Enlightened who have the body as their main part have much sharper eyesight than normal Mortals.

All students were already wearing the academy uniform, except for Flain. It was a white suit with irregular golden lines. Everyone had received this uniform personally before they gathered here.

Flain also noticed that from none of the noble children present, not even from Itai, could he sense any ME. That was quite strange, so he asked Flor about it.

"I wanted to ask the same thing," said Itai when he heard Flain’s question.

"At the academy, physical fights are legal even without mutual agreement—for example, an attacker who defeats you can take your Mana Crystals. But killing someone leads to expulsion from the academy. Because of this, the academy assigns a device to the uniforms that blocks Magical Energy from leaking out of your body, so no one can detect your Stage."

"The academy did this because strong students would otherwise pick out those below their Stage, and weaker students wouldn’t have a chance to grow stronger. Also, it’s forbidden to announce your Stage. Anyway, the device only works within academy grounds, since there’s a special magnetic field required for its function. And this area is also part of the academy’s territory," explained Flor.

"So I can rob other students of their Mana Crystals? Confirmed," muttered Flain.

"Anyway, the two of you will be at the very bottom of the academy’s hierarchy, because you’re supposedly just children of a Baron, which is the lowest noble title. Barons are Stage 6 to 7. Remember your names: Flain, you are Eran Girflodor, and Itai is Yuji Girflodor," informed them Flor.

’I might be a bit weaker since I can’t use my tail, but that won’t stop me from dominating these stuck-up children,’ Flain laughed inwardly.

"Can you explain the noble ranking scale? Because I still don’t quite understand it," asked Itai.

"Alright. The lowest are Barons, who are from Stage 6 to 7. Next are Viscounts, who are from Stage 8 to 9. Then come the Marquises, who are Stage 10. After that are the Archpriests with Stage 11, among whom is my father. And finally, the absolute elites of the empire—the Dukes, who are Stage 12 and above," said Flor.

"In the Empire of Light, there are currently, according to my information, 740 Barons, 150 Viscounts, 40 Marquises, 7 Archpriests, and 3 Dukes," added Flor.

Suddenly, a man with long purple hair walked up to Flor. "Ah, you must be Flor Wahraid. A pleasure to meet you, I am Zroi Urdan," he said.

"Oh, hello, it’s been a long time since we last met," said Flor.

"And who are these two? They don’t look familiar," said Zroi, looking down on Flain and Itai.

"These are two sons of one of the new Barons, Eran Girflodor and Yuji Girflodor," said Flor.

"Girflodor, hmph? Boys, the strong are talking here, I would appreciate it if you left," said Zroi with a slight smile.

Itai wanted to say something, but Flain spoke first. "Who do you think you are, you arrogant brat," he said, a dangerous aura emanating from him.

"Arrogant brat?!" shouted Zroi; it looked like that really pissed him off.

"Know your place, you Baron worm!" he yelled.

It looked like the two were about to fight, but Flor stopped them. "Duels aren’t allowed here yet," he said.

"You’re lucky," said Zroi, spat on the ground, and walked away.

Meanwhile, the other students watched the scene and whispered among themselves. How could someone be so stupid and oppose the son of a Marquises?

"That was a Marquises’ son," said Flor.

"Marquises? Then that’s a level below you," said Flain.

Suddenly, everyone went silent as something massive appeared in the sky.

It was a huge airship that looked like it was made entirely of gold, held aloft by a giant white oval balloon. The air around Flain began to blow fiercely as the airship started to land.

’So even though this world seems like it’s in the late medieval era, they still have large flying machines. But even so, I’m guessing it’s powered by mana,’ thought Flain.

The airship landed, and massive doors in its center opened, from which a long platform extended all the way to the ground.

"Future students of the Noble Academy, please board," a deep voice echoed from the airship.

Everyone started rushing onto the platform, and Flain followed them. They were all pushing like crazy. Flain felt like flying over them, but that would draw attention.

Of course, the fact that Flain and Zroi got into a scuffle already drew attention to Flain—but it was the kind of attention where others just thought Flain was an uncultured idiot and nothing more. freewebnσvel.cøm

But if they saw that he could fly, that would draw the wrong kind of attention. Only truly powerful mages can fly because flying spells are both extremely rare and consume a lot of mana—even Stage 1 flying spells. So only someone with at least Stage 7 can realistically afford to fly. If Flain revealed he could fly, someone might get too interested in him and discover some inconsistencies.

Everyone finally got inside...
