Chapter 18: [18] General assignment {4}

Unexpectedly, there were only two cadets who brushed past the boundaries near the shelter the whole day.

Getting shot in the head without a sign.

'It would have been even better with a silencer....'

Zick didn't want to suppress the bullet shot sounds with his mana. It was an unwanted mana wastage, in his eyes.

'Most of the cadets won't use their mana recklessly. Unless I'm close to them, they won't be able to find me, even if they traced the bullet sound. The answer is to just maintain some distance with them.'

More than anything, he could use it as a trump card too, shooting problematic cadets with silent bullets.

Packing food and water just enough for two days, Zick was ready to abandon this shelter.

'If nothing goes wrong, this shelter will be eliminated tomorrow. And...' Zick looked into the sky.

Noticeably the bright sky had turned darker. Once the other zones are fully eliminated, it will turn to night and a huge magical sandstorm will start.

The ownership of the shelter was given to Ellen, Zick didn't need it anymore.

Ellen was the hardest and easiest person to make a friend with, for Zick at least. If she doesn't want to, it is impossible to get closer to her.

However, if she was willing, like with Zick. Then even the smallest action of giving something would promote their relationship to that of friends.

And that's exactly what happened.

'I can tell from her eyes that she looks at me like a friend. I can only invest in her at this time...I hope I can receive something in the future.'

Running through the sand, Zick moved like a shadow crossing past dozens of sand dunes.

This was the speed without using mana, just with the boots he got in the shelter.

Due to the invisibility, it was as if some wind flew by causing the sand to fly around - not creating any suspicious scene.

Seeing a brownish hill not too far, he turned it into his resting place. Physical activities would still drain him, even more so when mana wasn't used.

At the top of the hill, Zick found another shelter, a pyramid in the distance.

'I can't shoot with this distance...'

Pursing his lips, Zick chewed on a jerky while mapping the whole area around the pyramid.

'That must be the shelter where Ellen and Karlin almost died too.'

Tightening the sniper tied to his back, Zick landed on the ground from the top of the hill, by flexing his knees.

'I still have more than 90% of my mana, I should be able to defeat Dershein...' Zick contemplated.

Bullets were useless against Dershein, even if Zick assassinated him. There was a high chance that he would dodge.

'That guy did have the sensitivity of a monster.'

Running to the far left, a few more boulders were stationed in the area. Acting like natural cover for the people fed-up with the sun.

Climbing up nimbly, Zick laid on top of one of the boulders.

"Damn they are almost burning...." He felt like cursing, feeling the hot sensation.

If it was a normal person, he would have already had his skin burnt off by laying here.

Closely watching the entrance of the shelter, Zick waited for the owner to step out.

It would be weird if he didn't come out to take advantage of his artifacts.

"Hmm...."

Finding some movements near him, Zick became vigilant immediately.

Three cadets were discovered, running to the pyramid just a few hundred meters away.

Adjusting the aim, Zick quieted his breath.

Whether they were the owner of the shelter or attacker, it didn't matter to him. He waited for them to arrive near the shelter patiently.

Click~ bang!

Finding them to have slowed down, Zick immediately pulled the trigger at their heads.

Bullets whistled through the air, hitting their targets.

After the sand settled, finding them all turning into blue particles, Zick breathed out loudly.

'They were maintaining mana around their body, one of them must have owned that shelter since they could save their mana to this point. It's stupid of them to let their guard down just after arriving near the shelter though.'

Pausing, he checked if there was any artifact left near where they died.

Disappointingly, the artifacts seem to have teleported out with them.

After checking around the area, Zick took over the shelter. As there was a high chance this was the one that didn't get eliminated till the end of assignment.

A day passed by, and Zick eliminated another two cadets.

'That makes a total of 24 extra GPs.' Zick was happy with the harvest.

Most of his time was spent near this newly obtained shelter.

Originally he carried 30 bullets with him, but now there are only 25 left.

And today was the last day of the assignment.

Visibly a sandstorm was slowly blooming, as the sky turned to night.

'There he is....' Zick found Dershein with another cadet, who he remembers to be an archer in the class.

'He found a good scout for himself.'

Zick kept an eye on his location for now. They moved very carefully, as if wary of everything so he didn't care about them for now.

Zick held himself from shooting anymore, as to not gather further attention.

His goal was never them to begin with.

'Aster....' Coldness spread across his eyes.

.....

"It's strange...." Dershein said to his recruited scout.

The scout with his sharp eyes, asked: "What is strange?"

"I feel like someone is watching us, but I didn't feel any killing intent in them." Dershein answered truthfully.

"I see..." The scout frowned.

As a talented archer from a young age, he had amazing vision, being able to see thousands of meters without even using mana. He still didn't find anyone strange.

"....It seems like we can only take over that Shelter. A magical sandstorm can start at any moment." The scout continued, used to Dershein's withdrawn personality.

"Where are others located?" Dershein asked seriously.

"A group of three are just beyond the pyramid and another group of five are right before the entrance of the shelter - they seem to be discussing something important." The scout said seriously.

"And the two people you said to ignore are a hundred meters 3 O'clock of us."

Dershein nodded his head, 'Ellen and Karlin....I don't want to offend them.'

Keeping a neutral relation with everyone seems the way to go, when aspiring to become a member of the parliament. It's especially important not to offend the big shots already rooted into the parliament.

"Still...why did you run from Aster yesterday? I felt that you could win...."

"No....we both would have been eliminated." Dershein said without hesitation, his instinct told him so at that moment.

"....."
