Chapter 17: [17] General assignment {3}

There were more than 250 bullets provided alongside the sniper. It was not a problem even if Zick missed dozens of shots.

Unluckily for the assignment designers, they will never know there is a professional sniper in between all the cadets.

There were only a few skills that Zick trained before regression, putting all his energy into it.

Sniping was one of these skills. He took a lot of pride in his sniping skills, before a freak flicked his bullet away with a finger and almost killed him.

"....."

Sitting on the flat surface he created at the top of the pyramid, Zick didn't stop looking around the desert.

The bullets provided were enchanted with special magic that made any cadets getting hit by it disqualified, transporting them out of the artificial dungeon.

'There should still be a couple days before everyone starts flocking into the desert zone...'

After another two days, the shelters will start to be erased, alongside the cadets within it. It wasn't just the shelter, but the whole area around it that got erased.

If the cadets are unable to heed the warning and leave the specific area within 10 minutes, they would be eliminated alongside the shelter.

The shelter Zick took control of was the last second that was eliminated.

Fortunately, the last area was still the desert, it wasn't very far.

'There is always a reward presented for the cadet, who ranks first in the general assignments. I need that reward no matter what....With that, it should be enough to make my plan take a step further.'

Zick's routine became the same for the next two days. Sitting on the top of the pyramid, not bothered by the sun rays hitting him, the robe donned by him could probably fry an egg at this point.

There weren't any cadets that found his shelter yet in this time, not even passing by near it.

Like usual, Zick scouted the dunes at the end of his sight through the scope.

There were thick screens of sand flying through the air, but it wasn't hard to see past it if properly focused.

After the sand settled down, three figures could be seen running at full speed. Their destination was apparently the pyramid before them, a shelter they sought the past two nightmarish days.

Finding all three faces to be acquaintances, whose name he couldn't remember, Zick didn't hesitate and aimed the sniper at them.

'Their speed is quite slow....and they seem to have already exhausted their mana, the chances of them dodging is near impossible.' Zick got up in a kneeling position, invisible to others.

Almost instantaneously Zick pulled the trigger three times, aiming right at their heads. This sniper could fire five bullets at once, before he has to reload again.

Looking through the scope, Zick exhaled with relief.

'My sniping skills haven't rusted yet....'

He could see three blue lights at the horizon, the sign of them being teleported out of the artificial dungeon.'

'That should be an extra 9 GPs for me.' Zick still cared about maintaining his rank.

If it fell, then wouldn't it be exactly what Ethereal wants?

There was no way Zick would allow such a thing.

'Aster....' Zick felt a deeply hidden obsession rise to his chest.

This would be the first time where he could inflict the suffering he received before regression back to them.

Entering the shelter to replenish some food intake, Zick ate without holding back. He would have taken these rations away if he had his space ring with him.

"Oh..."

Freezing in position, he quickly picked up the sniper and aimed it at the entrance of the shelter.

Clip-clop~

Footsteps echoed, appearing nearer by the second.

Bang!

"What the....why isn't it opening!?"

"There might be a special key to the entrance..."

Finding the voices to be familiar, Zick's face fell into contemplation.

"Sigh....let them enter." Zick said to the artificial spirit controlling the shelter.

"Oh...!" Karlin walked in with her mouth agape.

"You...." Ellen pointed at Zick, who placed the sniper back on the table.

"Don't try anything funny, this shelter belongs to me." Zick warned and continued eating peacefully.

Both Ellen and Karlin looked at each other, their eyes showing struggle.

They had met other cadets who were able to obtain a shelter, getting the artifacts along with it.

Due to it, both of them had to retreat in defeat.

All the cadets were crazy for points, those GPs were their only hope to catch up to the top rankers, like Zick.

"That....can we borrow that sniper for a day?"

"No."

"....."

Karlin seemed to be seeking revenge on other cadets.

Ellen on the other hand didn't care very much. Well, if she was eliminated, that would be a different matter altogether.

"Just stay in the shelter, no one can enter without my permission." Zick looked into Ellen's eyes.

After a few seconds of silence, Ellen nodded her head - she was the one with the most disadvantage in this assignment. She couldn't use any magic in this artificial dungeon.

Karlin was still grumpy, "I am an archer, so isn't it natural for me to use the sniper?"

She turned to Zick with hope.

"I am an ace sniper."

He was, before, in the dark organisation he worked in.

Zick replied while getting ready to wait for prey again. He was quite hopeful this time, cadets should start flocking around this area soon.

"What...."

Ignoring them, Zick left the safe room.

'It will be pretty hard to bring Ellen under me. Unless I can offer her something she can't resist.... It's a win until she doesn't become my enemy.'

Zick remembered Ellen's cold face on the TV, being promoted to be the magic tower lord.

'From tomorrow, I will start to actively hunt for other cadets. This will exhaust my mana, but it is the only way to meet Aster before time runs out.'

And in the case Aster gets eliminated?

How is that possible? Isn't she a mythical grade destiny holder?

'She should survive....even without her mana.'
