Chapter 676: Chapter 679: Is it Enough?

Liu Ergou didn’t hesitate and immediately answered the phone.

As soon as the call connected, Han Jiajia’s voice came through. "Er Gou, why did it take you so long to answer? What happened? Why weren’t you picking up? You had me worried sick!"

Hearing her words, Liu Ergou touched his hair in confusion. Not answering my phone? When have I ever not answered? How is that even possible?

He said, "Jia Jia, what are you talking about? How could I possibly not answer the phone?"

"And where are you? Where did you go? Why weren’t you waiting where you were supposed to be?"

Hearing his questions, Han Jiajia was momentarily at a loss for words. After a brief pause, she just told him to walk straight ahead, saying she was waiting for him, and then abruptly hung up.

Looking at the disconnected call, Liu Ergou blinked. He didn’t say anything else and instead broke into a run. 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝙬𝙚𝓫𝒏𝓸𝓿𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝙤𝓶

After about five hundred meters, he saw his car parked on the side of the road. Han Jiajia was standing beside it, looking around anxiously.

Seeing this, Liu Ergou waved a greeting. "Jia Jia, I’m here!"

Hearing his call, Han Jiajia, who had been scanning the area, froze for a moment before whipping her head around to look at him. She then took long strides and ran quickly toward him.

Before Liu Ergou could say anything, Han Jiajia threw herself into his arms, holding him tightly.

"Oh, Er Gou, you’re finally back!" she wailed. "I’m so sorry, it’s all my fault this time. I shouldn’t have been so impulsive, I shouldn’t have been so headstrong! Thank goodness you’re okay. If something had happened to you, I really don’t know what I would’ve done!"

Looking at Han Jiajia in his arms, her beautiful face streaked with tears, Liu Ergou was at a loss for words and could only pat her head gently.

Then he said, "It’s all right, it’s okay, Jia Jia. Don’t cry. First, tell me what exactly happened after I left? Did someone come looking for you, or what? What could have made you like this?"

Hearing his words, Han Jiajia finally lifted her head and led him back to the car. She then told Liu Ergou what had happened after he left.

After Liu Ergou had gone, Han Jiajia hadn’t followed his advice to call for backup. She figured that with him on the case, reinforcements were unnecessary, and it would be better to just wait for him to come out. And so, Han Jiajia waited for over ten minutes.

When Liu Ergou still hadn’t emerged, she started to feel uneasy. She took out her phone and tried to call him to check on the situation. But to her alarm, the call wouldn’t connect. No matter how many times she tried, she got the same message: "The user is outside the service area."

This instantly made Han Jiajia tense up. Her heart sank. His signal had to be blocked; there was no other reason for it to say he was out of service. It seemed those people had come prepared. The realization sent Han Jiajia into a full-blown panic. She wanted to look for Liu Ergou, but she was completely in the dark and had no idea where he was.

Left with no other choice, she drove his car a short distance down the road and kept trying to call him. She kept at it for nearly an hour.

After hearing Han Jiajia’s story, Liu Ergou was both angry and helpless. However, seeing her pitiable expression, he couldn’t bring himself to scold her. He just sighed.

"Sigh... It’s all right," he said. "I’m fine. Let’s head back for now. You should take the afternoon off and get some rest."

This time, Han Jiajia didn’t argue. She obediently took out her phone and requested the afternoon off.

Liu Ergou got into the driver’s seat and headed straight for Han Jiajia’s home.

Soon, they were back at her house. The moment they stepped inside, she asked anxiously, "Er Gou, hurry and tell me! What happened after you followed that person?"

Seeing her anxious expression, Liu Ergou didn’t hide anything and gave her a truthful account of what had happened.

By the time he finished his story, the color had drained from Han Jiajia’s face. She never would have dreamed the matter would be so troublesome. No wonder this could only be handled by the Patrol Bureau. If it weren’t for Liu Ergou, her rash actions would have probably gotten her killed back there.

At the thought, Han Jiajia started apologizing to Liu Ergou again.

Watching her apologize nonstop, Liu Ergou said nothing, but inwardly, he was quite satisfied. It seemed Han Jiajia had learned her lesson and would know to think before acting in the future.

With this in mind, he reached out and stopped her. "All right, Jia Jia, it’s over. I’m fine, see? You can stop apologizing. I just hope you’ve learned something from this and won’t be so impulsive next time."

"Mhm, I know," she nodded immediately. "I won’t be so impulsive or rash again."

"But... you went in there alone and stirred up so much trouble for them. They’re not going to come after you for revenge, are they? What will you do if they try?"

Hearing this, the smile vanished from Liu Ergou’s face, replaced by a grim expression.

"Hmph. If they know what’s good for them, I don’t mind letting them live a little longer for the Patrol Bureau to handle. But if they don’t, I don’t mind taking care of them myself before the Patrol Bureau even gets here."

Before Han Jiajia could respond, his expression suddenly shifted. He gave her a cheeky grin and said, "Jia Jia, seeing as I helped you with such a huge problem, don’t you think I deserve a proper reward?"

To his surprise, Han Jiajia didn’t retort. Instead, she wrapped her arms around his neck and planted a firm kiss on him.

The kiss was so sudden Liu Ergou didn’t see it coming. He didn’t even react until she had been kissing him for several seconds. But just as he came to his senses, she pulled away.

A wave of regret washed over him. Why didn’t I react sooner?

While he was still lamenting, Han Jiajia said with a blushing face, "Er Gou, is this reward enough?"

Liu Ergou wanted to say it wasn’t, but seeing her blushing face, he abandoned the thought.
