Dragged Into Another World Because of My Otaku Friend-Chapter 119: Controversy
"You two must be Bob and Alan, if I’m not wrong?" Selene asked. She sat between me and Bob, and I was really not comfortable now, with a woman sitting this close beside me.
"Err... yes, that’s right," I replied.
"You two are very famous right now! Every adventurer here is talking about what happened at the initiation ceremony. We really regret missing that, right Maya?" Selene said as she casually slung her arms around both my neck and Bob’s, glancing at Maya. Maya just nodded.
This woman really has no concept of boundaries. Her attitude is completely tomboyish and carefree. My head kept looking down, my neck retreating like a turtle’s as she kept tapping my shoulder.
"So, you’re G-rank, Alan? Don’t worry, I’ll help you rank up later," she said to me. Even though she probably meant well, the way she said it felt like she was mocking me.
"And you, Bob, I expect big things from you. You’re literally our ace now," she added, tapping Bob on the abdomen, making his stomach ripple. Bob was also staring down like me, clearly overwhelmed.
"I think you should stop doing that," Evelyn said.
"Huh? Doing what? I’m just talking to new friends. Is something wrong?" Selene asked, looking genuinely confused.
Something wrong? No, everything is wrong, girl. Please read the room. Two gentlemen nearly had their heads buried deeper into their bodies.
"Let’s go and find an empty seat, Sis Selene. This one is already full," one of the girls said. 𝚏𝕣𝐞𝗲𝐰𝕖𝐛𝐧𝕠𝕧𝚎𝚕.𝐜𝚘𝗺
I recognized her, she is Alia, the one who did the initiation ceremony with me. I think she’s a Rank C. And that other guy now scanning for empty seats, Rey. He’s the Rank B with Advance class who also attended the same ceremony with me and Bob.
So, they’re joining her group? She must be strong if she’s able to recruit those two new members.
After several minutes... the door to the Guildmaster’s office opened. From it, Mirinda, Ida, and Beltimore walked out onto the corridor and then down the stairs. The entire hall fell silent.
All eyes in the hall turned to them.
"It’s time," Evelyn whispered.
The upper trio walked until they stood just beneath the banner, on an elevated stage. Mirinda held a piece of paper in her hand.
One of the staff members came to her and handed her the Amplifier Magic Stone. She then attached it to her cheek.
"Good morning, everyone. Thank you for coming today. We apologize for the delay, as we were thoroughly reviewing all the merits and assessments," she said, her eyes scanning the hall.
"This year, we had so many applications and I’m truly happy about that. It means the competitive and fighting spirit within our guild is still burning strong." The adventurers all nodded proudly.
"However, not all applicants could be accepted, as there are only a limited number of participants allowed in the carnival. But the good news is, we’re sending the maximum number of rosters this year!"
Cheers erupted across the hall. That meant more chances to be selected.
"This year’s categories will remain the same as the previous one: Solo Battle, Last Man Standing, and Group Battle. Therefore, we will send three for Solo, five for Last Man Standing, and ten for Group Battle."
All the adventurers held their breath, anticipation thick in the air.
"As I announce your names, please stand up and come forward."
Everyone went quiet, silently praying for their name to be called.
"Bob, S-rank."
As expected, Bob was included in the roster, he’s an S-rank after all.
The hall erupted in cheers and applause.
Meanwhile, Lee, Mark, and their group just stared at him.
Bob stood up, wearing a proud grin as he walked forward and stood below the stage, right in front of Mirinda.
"We did it!" Evelyn beamed at William and Maya, her smile shining brightly.
William gave a thumbs up, while Maya nodded calmly.
I noticed their interaction, there was genuine excitement between them. Then, I heard the next announcement...
"Next, William, C-rank."
William stood up. The hall cheered even louder. It seemed William was pretty popular.
Then Mirinda called the next name.
"Selene, B-rank."
A collective gasp rippled through the hall, most surprised of all were Mark, Lee, and their group.
"She’s already B-rank? When did she take the trial?" Lee said, shocked. Mark looked equally stunned.
"That means she’s now on the same level as you and Mark," Wanda said.
Selene stood up and winked at Mark. Mark was speechless.
She then stood beside Bob, who was in the middle, folding his arms like he was the leader of a superhero league.
The next names called were: Lee, Mark, Rey, Evelyn, and Maya. Even Blackburn was selected. It seemed he hadn’t run away from the guild after all. But his face was still the same, always looking angry, as usual.
"Next, Lunar, E-rank."
The hall instantly erupted into murmurs and noise.
"E-rank? How can an E-rank enter the tournament?"
"Did she pay to get selected? If so, I want to pay too."
"This is unfair!"
The discontented chatter grew louder.
"Quiet!" Beltimore roared.
At the same time, a chilling burst of cold wind radiated from him. All the adventurers in the hall shuddered and immediately fell silent.
"Lunar, please come forward. Don’t be afraid," Mirinda said with a gentle smile directed at someone in the crowd.
From one of the tables, a girl stood up. She was quite short, probably just over 140 centimeters. Her apricot-colored hair was tied into two neat twin-tails, and she wore a fairly standard adventurer’s outfit.Though simple in design, the outfit’s bright colors made it stand out. <VISUAL>
Despite her small frame, she had an undeniable charm, and her shy steps as she walked forward only added to her cuteness.
Maya, Evelyn, and William were shocked.
"Eve, is that the girl you invited to our group before?" Maya whispered.
"Yeah, she really is. But how can she enter this tournament? She’s still a child," Evelyn said with concern.
Once the girl reached the front and stood in line with the others, I caught sight of Bob’s face. He was now wearing a perverted grin and glanced at me while subtly pointing at the little girl with his eyes.
I knew he was going to say something dumb later.
Well, it seemed like all the selected participants were already there. Ten in total.
I was ready to just cheer them on from the sidelines during the tournament.
"And the last one... Alan, G-rank."
What?!
