Dragged Into Another World Because of My Otaku Friend-Chapter 120: G-Rank
All the people in the hall started to make noise again.
"How can this guy be selected? His rank is below mine!"
"That’s it! I’m leaving. The selection is rigged!"
Voices of frustration echoed throughout the hall.
I then stood up, and at that moment, I could feel all eyes on me, making me anxious.
Why was I selected? I don’t have any notable merits or contributions. Is this even fair to the other adventurers?
Questions started flooding my mind as I walked toward the stage, my eyes fixed on the ground.
Ida was watching me. In her mind, she was thinking the same thing: What will others say if the lowest ranker in the guild gets selected? It was bound to cause an uproar.
She glanced at her guildmaster. What she saw on that face was calmness, confidence, and unwavering determination.
Ida was stunned. She then turned back toward me, who was now approaching the stage.
Suddenly, my arm was grabbed, and I was pulled to stand beside Bob, now facing the crowd. I couldn’t bring myself to lift my head, it felt like I had betrayed their hopes.
"With that, this concludes the selection for the upcoming tournament," Mirinda announced.
"Boo!"
"Boo!"
The hall erupted with booing. No one accepted it. First the E-rank, now a G-rank. They believed they were far more qualified.
Beltimore was starting to get angry. He had already taken a step forward when Mirinda raised her hand, stopping him, silently telling him to let her handle it.
"I know," Mirinda began, her voice calm but firm, "some of the selections I made are controversial. But what I considered was not just rank, but also each person’s role in this roster and their chemistry together. I apologize if any of you cannot accept this. You’re free to come and speak with me directly at any time."
She paused before continuing, "But for now, these people are the ones who will represent our group this year. Let us pray for their success."
Her words truly resonated with the people in the hall. Slowly, the resistance faded. They accepted that maybe luck wasn’t on their side this year. Some quietly left the hall, but most began to clap, offering their support and cheers.
"All the best, all of you!"
"If you want to quit, just tell me!"
"Give the other guilds hell!"
The hall became lively again with cheering and laughter.
All the selected members felt a flicker of pride in their chests and smiles on their faces.
"We did it, Maya!" Evelyn cried, hugging Maya tightly. Her eyes shimmered with tears.
Maya gently patted Evelyn’s back. She, too, felt grateful. She had worked hard for this moment, and now, she had made it.
Lee and Mark looked at the pair and exchanged glances.
"Why are you guys acting like you just won the whole tournament? You just got selected," Lee said, raising an eyebrow.
"Let them be," William replied with a chuckle. "For you, maybe it’s nothing. But for them, as D-Rankers, they’ve poured their hearts into this. This is the result of their hard work." He smiled warmly.
Blackburn stood with his arms crossed, looking disinterested, while Lunar fidgeted nervously, pressing her index fingers together, clearly embarrassed by the attention.
Everyone looked happy...well, almost everyone.
Except for one.
Me.
"Cheer up, dude! Why do you look so sad?" Bob asked.
I just exhaled. "I shouldn’t be here, you know. I already planned to make a cheering board to support all of you."
As I wallowed in gloom, suddenly...
Pang!
A sharp sting shot through my back, like someone had slapped me hard. I immediately bent forward in pain.
"Why the long face, Alan? You should be happy to be chosen," Selene said, wrapping her arms around my neck. "Don’t worry, I’ll cover you during the tournament, alright?"
I really needed to lecture her about physical boundaries, especially between the opposite sex, because she clearly didn’t understand them. My face was pushed against her chest, making me extremely uncomfortable. I quickly pushed her off and slipped free from her grip.
Just as I was about to say something about her behavior, Mirinda spoke up.
"That is all for our announcement today. Thank you for your time. For all selected members, please gather in the meeting room now," she instructed.
The hall began to stir as people started moving. Most exited the hall, while some lingered behind. The volume gradually died down.
Mirinda and her assistants made their way to the upper floor.
"Congrats to all of you!" Linus said as he approached us.
"Thank you, Linus," Evelyn replied.
"Why didn’t the Guildmaster select you? You’re an A-rank," Bob asked.
I’d been wondering the same thing. With Linus’ strength, he could’ve easily taken a spot, maybe even mine.
"She planned to choose me. But I told them beforehand during registration that I didn’t want to be selected for the tournament," he replied casually.
"You are so weird," Selene said.
"Alright, everyone, let’s go now," William said as he began walking toward the stairs.
"See you later, Linus," I said.
He nodded, offering a faint smile.
This guy... he’s so mysterious. Sometimes he acts like a goofball, other times he’s dead serious. And now, he’s completely unreadable.
We then made our way toward the meeting room.

"Cheap! Cheap! Tuna fish, only 1 gold!"
"Come over here, ladies and gentlemen! Special prices today on all seafood!"
"How much is one kilogram?"
"Only 50 silver, madam!"
The port of Daisy Town was as lively as ever. Vendors shouted out their deals, selling their fresh catch of the day, while thousands of customers strolled through the bustling port, browsing the rich selection.
This town sat near the Bluereef Sea, known for its abundant and diverse sea life.
Beyond the port, deeper inland, was the residential district, a tightly packed neighborhood of hundreds of houses, most of them with uniform designs and blue roofs.
Amid all the noise and movement, a disheveled figure stood motionless in the middle of the street, eyes closed. People instinctively avoided him as they passed by.
A small child approached him and said, "Hi, Uncle. Do you want some candy?" She held out a small piece, smiling.
Suddenly, the figure opened his eyes and looked at the girl.
His eyes were void of light.
