Chapter 173: Chaotic Battle

Thump!

William blocked the attack with his shield, yet he was still pushed back a few centimeters by the impact. If he had been using standard equipment, he would have been thrown away just now.

"These skull creatures are really annoying. Let me just obliterate them with my true flame!"

Mirinda’s pupils suddenly turned red, matching the color of her flames, and her body began to be engulfed in fire.

"No!"

"No!"

William shouted at Mirinda. Even Beltimore, who was a few meters away, tried to stop her.

"Why are you two stopping me?" Mirinda asked, irritated.

"Do you remember what happened a decade ago when you went all out? Beltimore and I had to bow nonstop to the mayor after you burned half of Sunflower Town. Did you forget already?" William said, recalling those terrible memories while making sure none of their allies would be burned alive.

"Tch! Fine. I will act modestly." Mirinda calmed down, her eyes returning to their normal color.

William and Beltimore sighed in relief. Luckily, Mirinda was no longer as rash and hot-tempered as she had been ten years ago. After becoming the guildmaster, she had learned to control her anger.

"Guildmaster, cast your flame onto my sword. I’ll finish these monsters in one swoop." William turned to face the three skull monsters ahead, including the Tetrapod, which had already steadied itself on its four feet.

Mirinda immediately understood William’s intention.

"Finish them fast, William. Or I’ll do it myself if this drags on too long." She summoned flames in her hand and released them onto the broadsword William raised. Upon contact, the fire didn’t disappear. Instead, it engulfed the entire blade, transforming it into a blazing sword.

"Whoa! That’s so cool!"

Bob and I stared in awe at the scene before us, our eyes shining. William stood there in his majestic armor set, a flaming sword in hand, just like a knight straight out of a fantasy movie.

"Hey! What are you two distracted by? Focus on the enemy in front of you!" Maya scolded us as she busily handled the monsters on her side.

On William’s side, his gaze was locked straight onto his enemies. The heat from the flames could be felt clearly, yet he endured it without trouble. Besides, he was already used to this kind of flame from the days he partied with his old team years ago. It couldn’t stop him from smiling softly.

He charged forward, meeting the enemies head-on. The Tetrapod Skull launched its spiked tail, but William leapt sideways, leaving a deep crack on the ground where the attack landed. The Blade Skull rushed toward him with its blades raised.

William swung his shield, neutralizing the strike, then slashed forward with his sword. Flames engulfed the Blade Skull, refusing to fade until the monster was completely burned away.

"One down," William muttered.

Suddenly, he sensed movement behind him. Just as he expected, the Heavy Armor Skull was charging straight at him, its hardened head lowered, ready to smash William head-on.

William evaded sideways at the last second, then swung his blade horizontally, cleaving the skull monster apart and burning it down completely. The flame coating his sword vanished after the strike.

"Two down."

He turned his head toward the third skull monster and walked toward it calmly. The Tetrapod Skull stared in fear as it watched its comrades fall. It lashed out repeatedly with its tail, trying to stop William from getting closer. But every attack was easily blocked by his shield.

Thud!

William managed to grab its tail. He gripped it with both hands and swung the Tetrapod in a wide circle, lifting its massive body into the air. After a few rotations, William hurled it straight upward.

"Now!" he shouted.

"Flaming Orbs!"

Mirinda seized the opportunity. She snapped her fingers, and dozens of fireballs appeared beside her, shooting straight toward the monster and obliterating it into nothingness.

"Nice! Good job, William!" Bob cheered. For the past two minutes, Bob and I had been completely focused on William’s fight, while Linus protected us with his life.

"Oii! Can you start getting serious? Someone’s life is in our hands right now," Linus said as he raised his staff, blocking a Blade Skull’s attack.

His words immediately snapped my focus back. We had wasted too much time here because of the sudden appearance of these skull monsters.

"We need to rendezvous with Prince Reymond as fast as we can. He must be in trouble right now," I said, a trace of concern creeping in as I imagined Reymond facing the enemies alone.

---

"Urgh!"

A group of communion members lay scattered along the hallway leading to the grand hall. Some were unconscious, others groaned in pain, and a few were even stuck halfway into the walls. The culprit who had caused this destruction was already gone.

"That guy... the prince... I didn’t know he was this strong... be careful, Azul..." one of them muttered before passing out.

A few metres ahead, Reymond was running as fast as he could. He swept aside every communion member who tried to block his path.

After a few minutes, he finally saw the large, beautiful wooden doors. He smashed them open and leapt inside.

"Reika! Where are you?!" Reymond shouted as he scanned his surroundings. His eyes quickly caught his beloved sister, sitting on a chair in the middle of the hall with Kaosliths behind her. He rushed toward her immediately.

"Brother Reymond!" Reika cried out. She stood up, relief clearly washing over her face.

"Reika! Are you alright? Are you injured anywhere?" Reymond asked urgently.

Thup!

Just a few metres from reaching her, Reymond was stopped by an invisible wall.

"What is this? A barrier?" he said. His hands moved across it, feeling and striking the unseen surface.

"Do you think this can stop me? Reika, step away!" Reymond took a few steps back and lowered his spear into a thrusting stance.

"Fatal Impalement!"

He lunged toward the barrier. At first, it seemed to have no effect. But Reymond held his stance and continued pushing forward with all his strength. Sparks flew from the point of impact between the spear tip and the barrier.

Crack!

A fracture appeared across the barrier. Reymond stepped back again, ready for another strike. Then, suddenly...

"Brother! Above you!" Reika shouted, her face filled with dread.

Reymond looked up and saw Azul descending upon him, a murderous aura enveloping his body.
