Chapter 126: She Has A Daughter?

She pushed open the door to the laboratory, bracing herself to be met with hatred in his eyes but what she saw, left her shocked. Tristan wasn’t there she only met a nurse and some other hospital staff in there.

"Are you looking for the donor? He just left, a few minutes ago. I told him to rest for a bit but I think he was in a hurry." The nurse informed.

Celine frowned in confusion. He left? Without asking her anything, or even stopping to talk to her?

She quickly turned around, hoping to catch him before he could fully leave the hospital. As she rounded the bend, she caught a sight of his broad back as he stepped into the elevator, by the time she got there, the elevator doors had already closed.

Celine stood by the elevator with a blank expression for some time. She seemed to be lost in thought, but a hint of disappointment crossed her eyes.

Should she take this as her answer now?

He must know by now, but he left without saying anything... maybe, he really doesn’t want them. 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝐰𝚎𝕓𝐧𝚘𝘃𝗲𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝕞

Tristan watched the needle being pulled out of his veins, the nurse had been efficient, drawing his blood with practiced ease while he sat in silence, replaying what happened earlier in his head. Celine’s voice had been raw with fear, the way she looked at him as if he were her only hope had stirred something he couldn’t name deeply awakening from the depths of his chest.

Just at that same moment Kaleb rushed into the laboratory, his usually composed assistant actually out of breath.

"President, there’s something you need to know." He reported, a look of urgency in his eyes.

"Could you leave us for a moment?" Tristan addressed the nurse, whose eyes had been sparkling since she was assigned to take his blood. She nodded repeatedly and exited the lab leaving him alone with Kaleb.

"The girl who was injured, the one miss Roberts is so worried about... she’s her daughter."

Kaleb himself sounded shocked saying this, he’d been unable to wrap his head around the fact since the very moment he made the discovery. Earlier when he’d asked about Celine’s patient he had been told that there was a little girl who was in desperate need of blood.

Since it had been an urgent issue, he quickly reported it to Tristan and coincidentally it was the president’s blood type, without question Tristan had gone on to donate his blood for the child, while assigning Kaleb to look into how the child was related to Celine.

"Her daughter?" The question exited Tristan’s lips, confusion glimmering in his hazel eyes.

"Yes President."

She has a daughter?

"The admission paperwork lists her as Leah Roberts. Mother: Celine Roberts." Kaleb paused, clearly choosing his next words with precision. "The timing, President. Five years ago, you and Miss Roberts had..."

Kaleb trailed off, not completing his words. Though things happened five years ago, they remained fresh in his mind.

That day, there had been a wedding, and very rarely, his boss had spoken of stealing the bride, it just so happened that the bride ran away, and Kaleb found out she spent the night in the president’s suite.

Whatever must have happened inside that suite overnight, Kaleb could clearly guess, especially when his boss suddenly seemed to become obsessed with the woman after that.

What if... something had truly happened between his boss and that woman that night? Would that mean that this girl...this daughter of hers was also...

Tristan’s mind raced backward, hunting through memories he’d tried to forget.

The morning after the last time they’d been together, he had personally sent a pack of contraceptives.

Had she used them? Had she not used them?

Could she possibly have conceived his child and said nothing? For five years?

Confusion along with something hot, and sharp burned in his chest.

"Where is she?"

Tristan stormed down the hospital hallways, his eyes skimming the numbers on the wards to find hers.

For a moment, he wondered if it could be true and strange emotions surged through him.

There was anger, no doubt, anger that she had kept it from him, if she really had his child five years ago, had she actually hidden it on purpose? But far beneath that anger, there was something else as well, a feeling he wouldn’t normally acknowledge, something that felt dangerously like hope.

What was he hoping for?

He hadn’t gotten to figure it out yet when Kaleb rushed up to him.

"President, that child..." Kaleb seemed to hesitate for a moment, in all honesty he didn’t want to push his boss into an awkward conversation, wasn’t it best to let him know before he confronted her?

"What is it?" He could barely focus on whatever Kaleb was telling him at the moment.

He seemed to struggle with something, before he held out a tablet in front of Tristan’s face. The picture currently showing on the tablet made his whole body freeze.

"That child doesn’t seem to be yours." Kaleb informed, carefully assessing the president’s facial expression.

He had seen the rage just a while ago, and quite frankly he would be enraged too, finding out a woman had his own child, his flesh and blood but ended up keeping it from him. He had immediately called some sources to dig deep, it turned out, they were mistaken after all.

Five years ago, there seemed to have been another man in her life after her encounter with him. Tristan froze at that realization.

’... just for tonight...’ she had said that night.

’After tonight there would be nothing between us, you won’t try to find me for any reason whatsoever and I won’t try to find you either, neither of us will be held responsible for what happens between us tonight, and I will make certain not to appear in your life as well, is that alright?’

He had been the one to say this to her, wouldn’t it be completely hypocritical of him to storm into her room and demand if she’d had his child?

Five years ago he had left immediately after the night they’d shared together, then sent her a pack of contraceptives after, there was a clear reason why she wouldn’t tell him if she had his child, no woman would walk up to him and inform him she’d had his child given the circumstances yet here there was clear proof that it might not be his child after all.

There was only one way to know...

He would ask her himself.

Kaleb noticed the president’s eyes flash with determination as he began to proceed forward. "President, where are you going."

"I have to talk to her."
