Chapter 169: Lover’s Test

She found herself unable to reply to Hailey’s suggestion, to call Tristan over for a date? Wouldn’t that be a bit too much considering they were pretending to be a couple at the moment, would he think she was just taking advantage of the situation?

She was just about to find an excuse to avoid Hailey’s suggestion when her eyes fell on someone coming in from the entrance, seeing him the words that had been on the tip of her tongue paused and she stared at him wide eyed.

What was he doing here?

Hailey who was sitting in front of Celine with her back turned to the entrance noticed her staring behind her in a daze, so she curiously turned around to see what caught Celine’s attention.

Hailey beamed, "Oh, my husband already arrived," She told Celine then got up from the seat reaching in for a kiss.

The man who had just entered the restaurant approached their table, smiling widely at his wife and opened his arms, then gave her a small peck on the lips.

She wrapped her arms around his neck and pouted saying, "You’re late." Her tone holding playful annoyance.

The man beamed, "I’m sorry honey, I just happened to bump into a former business partner." He informed his wife then moved aside to reveal someone behind him.

Celine’s eyes had been glued to Tristan since the moment he walked in, as she had been astonished to see him suddenly show up when she hadn’t even called him yet.

"Honey, meet Mr Tristan Grayson, we worked together on some projects in the past.Tristan, this is my lovely wife," Simon, Hailey’s husband introduced holding his wife like his prized possession.

"Tristan Grayson, the owner of the famous Grayson Corp? Oh my, it’s so nice to meet you." Hailey extended her hand quickly for a handshake quite astonished at the fact that she was meeting such a renowned person at the old dwellings.

Tristan wasn’t one to socialize or be friendly with strangers, however he’d had some successful collaborations with Simon who was an architect and had taken care of the designs of some of his most famous hotel branches, he and Simon had a fairly friendly relationship, so he wasn’t as detached as he would be with some other strangers as he unhesitatingly shook Hailey’s hand before his eyes landed on the person sitting on the chair.

He was momentarily taken aback as he wondered what she was doing here.

Hailey noticed how his gaze lingered on Celine and then turned around to notice Celine staring at him as well, neither of them spoke, but their eyes were locked onto one another.

"Uhm... Celine."

"Huh?" Celine suddenly jolted, then came back to her senses.

Hailey gazed at them both suspiciously, "Have you both perhaps met before?"

Celine quickly realized she had fallen out of character and had gotten momentarily distracted, they were still at the old dwellings and they were both supposed to pretend to be a couple, if she made a mistake, their lie would be exposed and they might eventually lose the trust of the island chief and along with it, their deal as well.

"I was just about to call you... Darling." Celine said staring straight at Tristan.

Immediately she said those words, something flashed in his eyes as he gazed at her, then seemed to realize she was putting up an act and approached her where she was seated, he leaned in, the suddeness of his actions almost made Celine gasp until he left a small peck on her cheeks then pulled away did she realize he was actually following up on her act.

Hailey and Simon were dumbfounded, but Hailey quickly recovered and spoke up.

"Celine, is he...your husband?" She asked incredulously.

As Celine slowly nodded she looked even more astonished. Celine had gotten married to the CEO of Grayson Corp? The fact was mind-blowing.

In the whole country, every girl’s dream man was one of the Blakewood young men, not only did Celine get to marry one of them, she’d even married the most handsome and most successful one of them.

"Wow, what a coincidence that our husbands are actually work acquaintances, just like us." Hailey exclaimed then took her seat beside Celine leaving the seats across them both for the men, she leaned in to whisper, "Your husband is such a great catch huh." Then gave Celine a small wink, before going on to officially introduce Celine to her husband,

"Celine, this is my husband Simon Reyes, honey, meet Celine Roberts, now Mrs Grayson, we used to work together in the movie industry."

Simon Reyes, Celine had heard that name before, he was a famous architect known for the most innovative building designs in Neville. A critique once described his work as fluid, yet futuristic works of art.

After the formalities Celine leaned in towards Hailey to honestly say, "Are you kidding, your husband is an awesome catch."

The man was not only good looking, but he was successful as well.

Hailey smiled, her gaze landed on Tristan, though she knew she couldn’t compare both men, Tristan’s looks and accomplishments were beyond compare. But then her own husband wasn’t lagging too behind either, and she was truly in love with him.

She smiled at Celine and whispered, "Then we both got really lucky."

"And what are you ladies whispering about?" Simon asked humorously.

"That’s between us women, what will you men know of it, right Celine?"

Celine gave a smile and nodded, then glanced over at Tristan who sat with an indifferent expression, however there was no trace of awkwardness, he was just like a detached celestial among mere mortals.

"Why don’t we order dinner." Celine suggested in order for any conversations not to build up lest Hailey begins to ask questions about her and Tristan.

Simon was faintly speaking to Tristan while the latter occasionally replied with a nod or a few succinct words, however, since Simon had once worked with him, he seemed to fully understand Tristan’s nature as his few word replies didn’t deter Simon in continuing their conversation.

Celine and Hailey also engaged in a few small talk as they ordered dinner to the table.

As they ate, Celine was surprised when Tristan suddenly picked a dish and placed it on her plate, but she soon realized he’d actually copied Simon’s actions to make their act more believable.

Her lips pulled up slightly at how absolutely clueless he was, it was just to act as a couple, for her it wouldn’t be much but a walk in the park because she was very versed in acting.

Celine sliced a piece of meat and and brought it close to his lips, to which he only stared at her momentarily, before he blinked and opened his mouth to accept the food.

However, compared to the overly romantic couple beside them who were literally feeding each other and eating from the same plate, they were still lagging behind.

The woman who had been singing on the stage seemed to finally end her music as a young man took her place and went up the stage.

The man’s eyes scanned the tables full of couples in the restaurant, then he smirked,

"Good evening lovely couples, congratulations on being tonight’s batch of the monthly lover’s test!" The man announced enthusiastically.

And immediately his words fell, the four sides of the restaurant that had been initially open without walls, slowly began to seal up by what looked like computerized enclosures like a trap sealing everyone inside the restaurant.

Panicked murmurs began to fill the whole place.

"What’s going on?"
