Dungeon of Niflheim-Chapter 904: Leaving Niflheim (2)
Off to one side Khione relinquished her firm grasp on her young paramour and suddenly started fidgeting in place. She stormed off all gung-ho but now that the time for farewells had come she found herself nervous. There was a lot she wanted to say, to convey but she struggled to find the right words and the strength needed to say them.
Frost didn’t rush her nor did he go first, this was an important hurdle that Khione needed to overcome.
"I....I...even now I really don’t want you to go." She was unreconciled, dreading the prospect of Frost not being there when she woke up tomorrow. "But I know I can’t keep you... you have things you need to do, things only you can take care of so....here." The more she talked the more butterflies she felt in her stomach and somewhat overwhelmed by the emotions she was feeling Khione attempted to redirect the topic. She pulled out two items from a storage bracelet, a beautiful piece of glistening black under armour and a large glaive, the armour that was forged by Karolina and the weapon she retrieved from the palace’s treasure vault respectively.
"They’re beautiful." Frost’s eyes sparkled as he held the two items in hand and compared them to what he used previously. His fight with the artic Zu destroyed much of his equipment, it wasn’t just the [Wolf howling at the moon] that was broken, the under armour vest he got from the Furanos and over half of his leather apparel had become all but useless. His strength practically halved as a result.
"The glaive is peak 4 star, a weapon that was used by one of my kin millennia ago when they were young...." Khione didn’t know them personally as they had already passed on well before she had been born but every item that was once held by a member of the royal family came with a descriptive log so as to preserve their memory across the endless ages.
"...And weak." Frost could see his lover biting her tongue so as to not hit him where it hurts, an attempt to keep everything romantic and filled with positive emotions but that didn’t suit their bond so Frost dealt the blow himself....it didn’t sting any less though.
"Cough cough....yes." Khione forcibly stifled her laughter, but her shoulders moved up and down without restraint making her look absolutely adorable.
"Like you they specialised in the glaive and according to the log were rather talented, one of the minority who succeeded in crossing the chasm into S-rank."
"Were?"
"Deceased, a long, long time ago." It was even before Freyja was born let alone her.
"I see." If the owner was dead then him using it as his own was a blessing, weapons were meant to be used not gathering dust in storage after all. He encountered a similar situation with the [wolf howling at the moon] only this time the original owner had a chance to use it.
"There’s actually another glaive that was once owned by him, an upper 5 star piece that followed him before his ascension." With Karolina by her side she held both weapons in her hands, debating which to choose. Eventually she sided with picking the peak 4 star glaive since it was more appropriate for Frost’s current strength. A weapon that was too good would end up burdening one’s own progression, they would rely on its strength instead of their own. When he reached A-rank then she could think about handing it over, a 5 star weapon even one with a rich family history was nothing in the eyes of a Princess of Niflheim.
"Really, what about the weapon he used as an S-rank?" A 5 star weapon was hard to get but not impossible, 6 and above however was something far beyond his current and likely close future’s reach.
"Doesn’t exist trust me I looked." Khione shook her head knowing he’d ask this very question. They were both alike after all, martial fanatics. "According to the log he died in war, his weapon and armour at the time either taken by the one who defeated him or destroyed in their battle." The war itself wasn’t mentioned in great depth, but the records stated that her kin died valiantly and with honour.
"War? Niflheim actually has enemies." Who would pick a fight on the level of a war against one of the Primordials? Wasn’t it simply asking for death.
"It wasn’t a war involving Niflheim but one of the nations erected by a royal descendant but yes in the past there have been certain influences that have gone war with us." Although it was way before her time it wasn’t unheard of. Those in the Godly realm especially those at the rank of Primordial rarely interfered in the efforts themselves thus leaving a small and somewhat false avenue for hope...at least if the opposing nation wasn’t heralded by someone of similar status.
"Hoh!" Frost had to admit he was quite intrigued by this bit of knowledge, but it was neither the time nor the place to pull on such a rope. Khione’s skills at deflection were quite masterful.
"Does it have a name?" His previous glaive was given one by its maker it even had an image of a wolf howling at the moon carved into the shaft.
"If it did that fact has long been forgotten, weapons of this level rarely manage to hold onto such things." 4 star was too low level to receive a name in Niflheim at least from their makers. Unofficial names were occasionally given by their wielders but most if any got their names through their deeds in battle.
"Then I should contemplate a good one as this is a gift from my enchanting Khione." Frost spoke in a voice filled with affection causing Khione to feel warm and fuzzy.
Appearance wise the glaive was dark, the shaft near black same for the edge of the blade likely some form of obsidian rich alloy. It was a fair bit heavier than the [wolf howling at the moon] and at least 15 centimetres longer, the blade itself was also wider and with a rising tip....a weapon specialised for killing, a weapon of war.
After getting a good feel for his new weapon Frost redirected his gaze to the under armour, a chainmail vest fashioned from a metal he could not recognise.
"That’s what I commissioned Karolina to forge, my surprise gift that will ensure your safety until we are... reunited." Khione was practically whispering at the end, her embarrassment evident given the blush adorning her cheeks.
"How can my Khione be so cute." Frost’s heart practically burst from immense love as he swooped forward, pulled his sexy knight into his embrace and aimed to steal a kiss from those luscious lips of hers.
Unfortunately what he met was not a pair of soft lips but a powerful hand.
"Not in front of my parents." Though her bravery had developed a fair degree thanks to Frost’s devoted corruption she still lacked the stomach to act so lovely dovey while in the eyes of her mother and father.
Unperturbed by her attempt to block him however Frost proceeded to kiss that fair hand and even gave it an affectionate lick before whispering. "So I can do it in private, good to know."
"...Pervert." Khione pulled back her molested hand and shook her head in disbelief of his shenanigans yet despite that there was still a lovely smile on her lips.
"Yes but I’m your pervert." Frost giggled with pride.
"....The under armour is considered a mid-level 5 star piece of equipment so even if you end up on the wrong end of an A-rank you should be able to endure their fierce attacks for some time." Stubbornly refusing to fall into a romantic trance until absolutely necessary she started parroting the explanation Karolina gave her last night. "The material used for the links is something called obsidian jardium and it has been mixed with a bit of azure aether so as to enhance not just ice chakra but also wood and lightning."
"Unfortunately my love I’m a bit of a one trick pony but just from the fact that it’s a piece of 5 star equipment forged to my specifications and in such little time I can see the depths of your affection, thank you Khione." Such a high quality gift felt beyond his means and instinctively he had a small urge to reject it but thankfully emotion and logic prevailed. With this on hand he could feel safe in his coming journey and at the same time give his anxious girlfriend some piece of mind. To reassure her further he even pulled down his robes and put it on then and there.
"Perfect fit. How does it look?" He tensed his muscles and took a grandiose pose, but Khione was already dazed by his earlier flash of skin, her mind enthralled by her own imagination.
"...Urgh yes, very nice un very nice indeed." She shook her head and even wiped a small dribble of drool from the side of her lips before giving him a proper once over.
"Good, I’ll be sure to find a good name for this as well, perhaps something like [Khione’s loving embrace] if that’s alright with Karolina." He boldly teased.
"Don’t you dare!" His affectionate threat was too much for her to bear, Khione’s arm thus reeled back before sending a solid punch straight for his solar plexus.
"Oomph.... Some impact but no pain....it works hehehe." Frost smiled in an irritating manner as though mocking her to which she replied with a fierce yet silent glare.
"My love I think it’s time for you to finish what you started." Frost peered over Khione’s shoulder and saw that Kiba was done receiving his gifts and that Shivali was looking in his direction and sending a message with his eyes, it was time to wrap things up.
