Dungeon Raider System-Chapter 499: Skydiving into hell Part 2
With the Pegasus gone they lost their only escape route which also meant they had no chance but to wait until Luna recovered. The problem with that was that, if she didn't recover fast enough, then they would be forced to move across the city in complete darkness due to the eclipses being triggered all over the city.
Uriel needed to make a hard choice, to move with Luna on her current condition and look for Sam as fast as they could, risking getting ambushed on their way or to lay low and prepare to move in complete darkness.
In the end, they decided to move forward since Medusa was currently unable to see anyway and darkness wouldn't make any difference to her. Uriel, though, wasn't so convinced since he knew that the reason the eclipses activated their ability because they knew they were there.
The emergency stair was an endless spiral that went down to the basement and without any electricity or windows, the only light in their way was the one that came from their gas lanterns.
Every step Uriel took felt as though he walked towards the gallows and the eerie silence of the city only added to that feeling. The soft whistle of the wind crashing against the building sounded like the last moans of a dying person and their steps echoed making it seem as though they were being followed by an invisible threat.
Luckily for Uriel, his glasses proved to be way more useful than he initially thought as they allowed him to see flux energy as clear as day.
It was as though a whole new world opened up in front of him. Flux energy was everywhere and inside everything: the walls, the stairs, even the very air he breathed possessed flux. He was also able to see for the first time the extent of Medusa's power as flux energy brimmed within her veins like glimmering rivers on her fair skin.
Walking like that wasn't supposed to be an issue to him even in darkness and the only problem was that, with him carrying Luna on his arms and Medusa blindfolded, their chances of landing the first strike when they stumbled upon an enemy were close to zero. It was a handicap for the already weak team and Medusa was feeling the pressure.
"Hey, don't you think we should give Luna some serum too? It helped us recover from our bruises when we... landed, maybe she will recover faster with that." Medusa proposed, but Uriel shook his head.
"No, if it was that easy everyone would use serum all the time. I only went to a few combat medic classes, but Lamar warned us to only use serum to recover physical wounds. It won't cause any harm, but it would be a waste. Part of a medic's duty is to assess exactly how much serum to use."
"If only there was something similar to serum, but for flux energy..." Medusa let out in a sigh, not expecting Uriel's reaction.
"That's it! Grab her," Uriel said as he handed Luna to Medusa, who failed to catch her on time causing Luna to fall on the ground. Then, Uriel took out one of his energy drinks, the ones he became openly addicted to after unlocking his souvenir shop, and began pouring it on Luna's mouth.
At first it didn't seem to have an effect, but before the can was half empty Luna coughed up and opened her eyes.

"Thank goodness you're alright!" Medusa let out.
"I'm... fine."
"Thank you for warning us about the eclipses, if it wasn't for you we would have stayed in the top floors and we would be forced to walk on darkness."
"I, uh... didn't see any eclipses. It's the smell." Luna replied as she struggled to stand up.
"I don't smell anything." Medusa said.
"I thought your senses would be heightened since you're not using your sight anymore, but if that was the case you wouldn't be bumping into stuff all the time." Uriel chuckled.
"Hurry up, we need to... help," Luna grunted as she attempted to walk on her own leaning on the wall. "There's people inside this building and there's cryptids too." In spites of Uriel being able to sense flux energy with his mystical sense and his newly acquired ability to see flux energy thanks to the glasses he found on the lost city in the wetlands, he knew better than to doubt Luna's nose.
Even if Uriel didn't know Luna was a werewolf, he knew she wasn't one to make false claims and if she said there was people inside the building, it was a certainty. However, just because there were people who needed help it didn't mean Uriel wanted to rescue them.
"Calm down, Luna. I don't think it's a good idea for us to go rescuing civilians, if they were stupid enough not to evacuate then they can't be saved."
"I hate to say this, but I agree with Uriel. We can't risk getting spotted by enemies. Besides, all we need for this to stop is to find Sam and convince him to stop his attack on the city, then everything will be alright." Medusa gave voice to what everyone wished would happen, in spites of knowing how difficult it would be to get Sam to stop.
"It's not just people... it's that woman... huh... Uriel's friend."
"No way! I think we landed on Vivian's building!" Uriel shouted as he rushed downstairs leaving the blind Medusa and the weakened Luna on their own. Uriel had never set foot on the emergency stairs on Vivian's building before, but once he took a peek inside the hall of a random floor he knew his suspicions were correct.
Fortunately, he knew her address and was able to get there in the proverbial blink of an eye thanks to his Dash skill, though as soon as he set foot inside he realized the apartment was empty. Or so he thought, but on a closer look he was able to see the flux energy converging on a specific room like a misty river flowing at a slow pace towards the bathroom.
He grabbed the door knob and gulped down a lump of saliva before twisting it and suddenly opening the door, but the room was empty and all the flux energy was gathering on the mirror. At that moment Uriel realized it wasn't just the titan, the fallen corporation and the hybrids that he needed to worry about, but also every single cryptid that inhabited the city before the chaos even started.
Medusa and Luna arrived at the apartment right after Uriel closed the door and he silently closed the door, not wanting to disturb whatever may or may not be inside that bathroom.
"It's not here, but it's nearby. Maybe a few floors bellow." Luna whispered.
"Uriel, I know you're worried about your friend, but it's better if we stay close." Medusa said, trying to hide the fact that she was scared to the bone when Uriel left in a rush.
The group left the apartment and started checking the floors as they went down. Other than some open doors and signs of people leaving in a rush, there was nothing to note on the first couple floors, but then the true horror began.
There was blood on the carpet and some bones with gnaw marks, just like what was left after someone truly hungry ate some chicken wings and savagely stripped any flesh and flavoring before discarding them. Only instead of chicken, those were obviously human remains. It was a gruesome scene, but it didn't faze any of them.
On one hand, Luna was impervious to any sort of compassion towards humans as a species since she considered herself as only a half human. On the other, Medusa would have probably let out a horrified scream, but she couldn't be bothered by things she couldn't see.
Uriel's case was different from them, though, because instead of focusing on the tragedy that took place in that hallway, he put all his attention on finding evidence to figure what was responsible and if there was a possibility that it remained close.
"Do you know what cryptid did this?" Luna finally asked after giving Uriel what she deemed was enough time to think.
"Judging by the marks, there's incisors, canines, premolars and even molars."
"An omnivorous... huh, this is bad." Luna muttered as she understood what Uriel meant to say, but couldn't.
Uriel scanned his surroundings, knowing there was something or someone nearby, but unable to sense anything and all he had to go by were the clues left behind. Some doors were destroyed from the outside, others from the inside and some of the walls had gaping holes in them that allowed the party to take a peek inside with their lanterns.
The dim light briefly reflected on the shiny surfaces of metal objects inside the apartments, only now Uriel wasn't interested on valuables but on finding any traces.
Then, completely out of a sudden, an ear piercing shriek broke the hollow silence followed by a cry for help.
